Yeah, I hate to bash on players, but I can't help but feel stephano is only being spotlighted at all just merely because of the coL and Mill. controversy.
I think he still needs to prove himself as a player, and until he starts placing super high in some big tourneys, I'm still gunna be skeptical.
Agreed. I've never heard of him till the whole coL and Mill. controversy started. Now it's all about Stephano and how good he is and how he's gonna own everyone.
Maybe for Americans, but he's been pretty hyped since pre-hsc3 in the European scene.
What does me being american have anything to do with it? Not like I get my information from some american only site that only showcases Idra/Huk/QXC etc. I go to teamliquid for all my SC info and I pay attention to all the major LANS. He's yet to make any kinda of name for himself at a major tournament and I'll gladly bite my tongue if he stomps through people offline as good as he does online.
I dont know why people keep saying Stephano haven't proved himself at Lans
He placed 5th in HSC 3 beatign Huk 2-0 Lost to Thorzain and MC
His group:
1. Stephano 3-0 2. HuK 2-1 3. iNSoLeNCE 1-2 4. NarutO 0-3
Then he lost to Thorzain 2-0 got into losers bracket and did this:
Jinro 0 Stephano 2
Stephano 2 XlorD 0
White-Ra 1 Stephano 2
MC 2 Stephano 0
He placed 5th together with Idra. This was his first Lan ever and he did all this being an amateur player.
These are some of the biggest Lans in Europe. If this isn't proving himself at Lans then 90% of all pro sc2 players haven't proved them self either
So plz stop with this sillyness
Ok I'll give in he did good. But some of the players he beat I wouldn't put too much faith in. A slumping Jinro, some no names, and Brat_OK is very overrated imo.

I mean why people keep arguing with this kind of guy, so the no names you are talking about are White Ra ? Sen ? Satinii ? HuK maybe, because comparing to the list of players I just gave why do you even care of the other players he did beat ?
And Brat_ok very overrated, right ok.....You're just fooling yourself with your non sense.
You're just like the guys saying he is hyped because of Col vs Mill story, in europe he is hyped since HSC 3 feel free to check the dates of that event on the liquipedia.

Yea because that's really bad right?. SlayersAlicia must be really fekcing bad
No, because there's 30 pages of people saying how amazing he is and now that's he's a "pro" he's going to roflstomp everyone.
He is amazing in foreign standard and my point is if a world class player as SlayersAlicia can get knocked out in the open bracket then its really really hard
Not exactly the same, considering Alicia was on his downfall in that period, while Stephano is performing well. I don't think many will argue Alicia hasn't been doing well for quite a while.

Im pretty sure if SlayersAlicia haven't been knocked out in the open bracket he would have gone 5-0 in his pool group

Not much use to speculate. Orlando will come soon enough.
Players have been hyped up before. Kas was supposedly the greatest terran ever due to his online success and did he ever deliver real results? No. Now nobody thinks hes much more than a good terran. Same goes for Demuslim. Rather spectacular ladder record but did he ever deliver either? Nope. Here I must remind that both of them have of cours done good. But with the words used to describe these players at certain points in time, one would expect them to do much better. Not that considering points like this ever stopped people from jumping in the hypetrain. Sadly, eventually these people will of course end up being right because you can only be wrong so many times I guess, and then they'll think that they showed everyone. Oh well, whether Stephano does good or bad doesn't matter much to me. I know that I am the rational one taking this position that so far there is no reason to hype him up as much as people in this thread do.

Well Kas DID kind of get 3rd at TSL and 2nd at CPH (I think that was the one) when he was playing at what you might call the peak of his hype and demuslim DID kind of fuck his arm up so stopped playing.. but im sure your point is still bang on
The MLG Open Bracket is scary. MLG sucks in that so many players that are better than some of the people that get their spot automatically. At least this ladder run proves that he can play consistenly again very different kinds of players. Ladder does simulate the Open Bracket quite wel...
He's good, no doubt, but I think a lot of us can tone it down with all the "He's the best player in the world/ever/of all time/ (insert measurement)". Regardless, can't wait to see him perform.
Reading what other skeptics have to say though it seems like unless you've actually won a tournament with a bunch of Koreans in it, you're only "good" not great. Come on people...
Does that mean only HuK is worth his salt? How exciting for the foreign scene. -_-
What gets me here is "if" Stepahno wasn't to get through the open brackets, everyone would just get up on their high horse and say "yeh I said he wouldn't do well."
Everyone needs to remember, it's just one tourney. You could be the best player in the world, but if your not in the right mindset or just having a bad day (which we all have) that can cost you the tournament. Not because your a "bad" player. Personally, I think Stephano is going to rip shit up (although I freaking hate zerg!) and good luck to him.
Fact is, wether anyone likes it or not... his ladder stats are quiet a feat! It already says that hes a formiddable opponent.
He had already proved that he has skills (ladder). But ladder and tournament are two very different things!
EDIT: Also, how many pro actually stream and practice the same strats on ladder? If I was pro, I would probably only use my tourney strats with practice partners and only run it maybe once or twice on ladder.
So either;
1. Is stephano hiding anything new from anyone that we will see in upcoming tournaments? In this case, this guy is going to be one insane player to watch.
2. Does stephano unload all of his ammo on ladder where the rest of the pro hide it until tourney time? In this case, he could just flunk out in tourneys.
