I don't think they invited Destiny for his skill. Only for the publicity.

Damn, pretty sick

imo it's a tossup between the following:

EU: Thorzain, Ret, SaSe
NA: Idra, Kiwikaki, Sheth
KR: Mvp, Bomber, MMA

I agree with your NA and KR top 3. EU, however... it's really hard for me to tell, as all of them seem like good players, but I don't think Thorzain will make top 3. Ret, Sjow, and Nani all have a good shot I think, and definitely White-ra if he's in good form.

I think ThorZain will eat any non-Mana protoss for breakfast And since he was practicing in SlayerS house lately his already cool TvZ might have improved a lot.

Lack of MC/HuK/Nestea makes me sad.

Still disappointed with the really small prize pools for MLG, but besides that, I enjoy MLG more than the GSL!

MLG makes millions profit every year. They should be thankful for having a game that they can make so much money off of and increase the prize pool substantially imo. Its not like they can't afford it. ;((((

Can you link to the profits MLG are making? Never seen any official numbers.

I don't remember where exactly i read it but it was a credible source. It just saddens me how greedy MLG is being with the amount of prize money they are giving out when the gamers(us) are the reason MLG can make so much money. I'll try and find what i read and post it for you.

You positive it's millions in profit, and not revenue?

I'm pretty positive, i'll continue to search for the article i read and post the link.

Ok heres an article with an idea of what they made starting in 2006 till when this article/interview was published in 2009. So thats 3 years. profit:42.5 million. The scene is definitely much bigger now in general. I'm sure they make alot more than that. This is all profit btw. Even if they only threw an extra 50k for sc2 per mlg they would still be making bank. Plus who knows they might even make more from it since the stakes are so high.

http://techcrunch.com/2009/11/11/interview-with-matt-bromberg-ceo-of-major-league-gaming/

I looked into it. That's how much money they've raised through investment from venture capitalists. Not how much profit they've made.

care to cite your research?

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/21817/Major_League_Gaming_Picks_Up_75M_For_Competitive_Gaming.php

Professional video game league Major League Gaming announced that it secured a $7.5 million investment from Oak Investment Partners.

The same venture capital firm previously invested $25 million into the company in Series B funding in 2006. Prior to that, Major League Gaming gained $10 million in a Series A round from Ritchie Capital.

Total? 42.5 million.

Did you read the article clearly that i posted? Investment and profits are 2 different things right? If i'm wrong please correct me.

They are two different things, and he was clearly referring to investment in the article. Like I've been repeatedly telling you, it was never implied to be profits, and I'm still surprised you can't see that.

If you look at the players, you realise they all mostly played at MLG already, so from that perspective it makes sense.

Imho, they should've invited more players to these invitationals to get more players introduced to MLG who havent been to MLG before.

This looks awesome except for a few things. Just going to run down what I don't like first before I say how much I love this.

First, iNcontrol, why does he still get invited to tournaments like he is a top tier player, stop it. I understand the NA invites are pretty lacking overall, but come on. Why not invite Select over him, or Rain who has been living in NA for awhile; I'd even be fine with pretending Huk is still a "foreigner" to avoid inviting iNcontrol to this.

Second, how were the players even selected?? I mean from looking at Korean invites it could be argued by MLG points, but then you look at some of the NA/EU invites and it seems like some were invited due to popularity and not MLG points. I could be wrong about this since I haven't looked at everyones' points that has been invited, but just how it seems.

Other than those two gripes which I can definitely overlook, this tournament looks awesome. MLG has really been amazing for SC2 and I'm so glad they have been able to push SC2 and esports into the world. The amount of exposure it's getting is amazing. Can't wait for this tournament, and all the epicness to come.

On another subject of how the attendees are selected....
If they want the best of the best for any competition in general i feel that they should have held a qualifier for this event inviting all the top players to compete for a spot. The better players will most likely advance thus providing with the top end of the competition. If someone loses and doesn't qualify then they obviously didn't deserve to be there. I mean how else did these people get there in the first place. With the current system being used we get to see some "washed up/slumped/not nearly as good as they were/people think they were player type" talent mixed with top talent. Why not just have only top talent that will produce the best games? Best games=best entertainment in my eyes. Who else wants to see one sided games? they are boring.

Sorry if it offends anyone but it is kinda true.

According to Sundance the invites were based off

Timing availability and interest all played a factor.
This will not be the last. In the future I want to open up fan voting region by region.

this is pretty retarded, NA has a fucking awful line up and they definitely didn't get the best of NA where as i feel they got some of the best and the rest really good for the other servers. NA gonna get raped.

Out of curiosity who are the best in NA? Sadly even Idra isn't really a global contender any more, and he's probably the best non-Huk player to come from NA.

Sheth, Select and Kiwikaki are all really good andon a similar/better level than idra. (imo)
dde, Slush, major and Cruncher also arent bad.

For all the people that think Destiny is undeserving.....

Destiny did beat BOMBER in a bo3 in some event at one point not too long ago.
Destiny beat Puzzle on stream several games in a row on multiple servers.

He can definitely compete with the best. However, i do think that he needs to prove himself more at lan events.

On another somewhat related subject, How good will destiny perform post patch once infestors get nerfed?

Some would say Destinys success is due to infestors.
