Jazz forward Gordon Hayward is lending his name to his second biggest passion.
Hayward will participate in IPL 3: Origins, a "StarCraft II" in-person video game tournament that will be held Oct. 6-9 at Caesars in Atlantic City, N.J.
Hayward is being prepared for the tournament by IGN pro league coaches and some of the world’s top StarCraft players. He will be one of the primary participants at IPL 3: Origins, and will challenge global StarCraft II stars, including IdrA, Select and WhiteRa.
I'm honestly not a devout fan of the NBA, but even I recognize this as something news worthy. It can do nothing but benefit eSports if fans from traditional sports take notice.
So how do you guys think he'll do? I doubt anyone expects him to qualify for the main bracket, but even a ro64/32 in the open bracket would be impressive. Also how do you feel this affects eSports in general?

He's Silver in 1v1 correct? I'm pretty sure he'll just be there for fun, otherwise he will be very disappointed. Still this is amazing to have someone from mainstream sports who likes SC2 enough to show up at live events.
Edit: I'm a huge NBA fan so this is really cool for me. I told all my friends and they weren't as impressed as me lol.

I think it's quite awesome to have such a connection between NBA and ESPORTS. Best of luck to him! :D
|
i imagine this will be like yellow vs boxer but it should be cool nonetheless
|
Holy freaking cow. That's going to be awesome. I'm pretty sure he will lose... who are IGN pro league coaches, anyway? HD and Painuser? Probably good at coaching, but not for helping amateurs beat the pros at IPL 3.
|
He is gona get stomped, but should be fun nevertheless. I watched him when he streamed once and he isn't the greatest player ever
I'm a pretty big fan of the NBA so this is cool though. Helps bridge the cultural gap.
|
Honestly couldn't care less how he does, I will be rooting for him because I love basketball and mainstream ESPORTS exposure. Gogo Gordon you just made a new Jazz Fan. Also, anyone want to start up a trend of buying his jersey to show some love for a pro-athlete playing SC2?
|
Gordon Hayward's hobby is probably more financially smarter than his peers. less child support and alimony involved.
|
Pretty cool dude. Having a player of a mainstream sports say such good things about competitive gaming is pretty awesome.
|
Are you serious lol. This is not like yellow vs boxer. This is like ZeNEX puppy vs a monster truck in an arm wrestling contest underwater in space.
This makes no sense and poor Gordon Hayward will be brutalized.
|
Wow, I don't know who the hell that is, but still fucking amazing exposure for esports. Guess it would be like Nani or Rooney turning up for an i-series event in the UK and competing ?
Lets hope he can master the 1:1:1

He was Gold a few months ago, I think he's Plat now. Chill and Zergman and a few other people have been coaching him and helping him improve.

How doesn't it make sense?
Of course Hayward will probaly get stomped but I think he knows it too and is just doing it for fun. And IGN is doing it for more exposure.
Grats to IGN for getting him to participate. will be watchin.

ugh I wish somebody other than Zergman would be helping him lol. Zergman isn't a very good coach.
But awesome that Gordon is gonna be at IPL :3 Should be a fun little thing and it should bring a little more exposure to IPL. I'm glad that Gordon isn't "ashamed" of playing SC2, like a few celebrities are of their personal time activities.
|
Celebs aren't afraid to say they play Halo or CoD lol. I'm in the middle though when they say they play WoW (disease of a game).
SC2 is probably down there with....age of empires
|
He Should play a 2v2. With a pro and against Bobby kotick the movie star
|
I don't see why this would be anything but good. From the few times I've watched his stream he seemed like a really cool guy, and I think it's awesome that he does this when he absolutely doesn't have to.
|
Hahahahaha this is amazing.
I haven't watched his stream since the very first day but I'm sure he's improved.... at least a little bit. Very good exposure for IGN.
