FXOChoya just recently tweeted
"sC came down with Pneumothorax and so he has to get surgery. There's a chance he won't be able to play for about a month. Please pray for sC for a speedy recovery and cheer for him with words of encouragement "

Hopefully he will get better soon and the surgery goes well!
Update: sC is in the hospital again for the same reason (Oct.4, 2011)
also if a mod could change the title to MVPsC that would be great :D
|
Oh wow, collapsed lung is serious ;_; i hope he's alright
|
Oh my GEe ! ! I hope he gets better !
|
Woops this is a pretty serious condition bad joke
|
Wow, hope he'll recover without any problems, that seriously sucks.
A colleague of mine had that, and had a relapse during durgery, so he had to stay in the hospital for another surgery directly afterwards.
|
Sucks, he was a cool terran. Here's to a quick recovery.
|
Wish you a speedy recovery, FXOsc. Hope you can come back alright.

O shit, speedy recovery good sir!

Whoa, that's pretty awful. He's a pretty good player - hopefully he recovers quickly so we get treated to more of his games!

Rough! He'll be okay though I'm sure
Also just a minor thing, but... Surgical procedures are what one undergoes. Surgery is an art - a discipline. Knowing this distinction will impress your next surgeon at your next encounter (should you ever need a surgical procedure, or otherwise speak with a surgeon).

sC has improved so much as of late, and he was really looking like one of the top Terrans in the GSL. It is unfortunate that he is in this condition, and I hope he gets well soon and recovers he status as a nerd baller.

Oh no! I always thought he was pretty terrible until I watched his games closely, then realized he's actually pretty awesome. Best hopes for the surgery!

Eppp, hope he gets better soon. Thats gonna really throw him off his game =/.

HOW THE HELL did this happen? You don't just get a Pneumothorax from sitting around.
Or was it some kind of spontaneous pneumothorax that happens super super rarely? I really hope it's nothing like an Emphysem.
|
omg sC! Get well soon, always cheering you on! sC fighting!

Jesus Christ, how did this happen?
sC, please get better, and take care of yourself. Hope to see you back in the GSL soon; I already miss seeing your 2-rax.

It's not super rare actually. Primary pneumothoraces can occur spontaneously in patients with no history of lung problems. Surgical procedure is applied in some cases of large pneumothoraces. Smaller issues usually don't require surgical procedure or intercostal drain.
|
Unfortunate news
|
Pneumo thorax?!?!? How did he get it? I it was treated in the emergency room he would have been treted by inserting a tube in his pleural cavity to drain the oxygen.

This guy is right.. you do actually get one from sitting around... that's why it can often be called spontaneous pneumothorax.. it happens mostly to tall and skinny teenagers (i'll say SC is fairly skinny, not sure about tall).
I had one in my sleep on a weekend last year, thought it was just back pain and didnt go treat it for a day and a half, when i went to clinic they told me i had near 100% pneumothorax (the lung was collapsed and shrivelled up like a grape, I let it get worse by not getting it checked out asap). I could only breathe with the other lung, and barely hold my breath.
Hopefully his isn't super serious to the point where he needs an actual surgery, what they usually do is a minor operation where they stick a tube in the chest and drain the air outside the lung, if that doesnt work well enough, he'll likely need surgery, which in my experience will likely at least put him back for 2-3 weeks.
Doctors usually ask if you tried any drugs or did anything physically straining as sometimes those play a big factor, but for the most part this stuff can happen out of the blue.
It might actually be because of high stress levels (maybe even from Starcraft), as I tend to think I got mine from being really stressed at that time, so SC should definitely take a break and relax for a little while after his recovery.

I had 6 of those, does sC smoke? It happens to Tall and skinny person mostly, but im not that tall, and not that skinny, So yeah, i got 6 pneumos , 1st didnt require surgery on left side, second on right side, no surgery, 3rd one LEFT , still no surgergy none of them went over 35% of lung being collapsed, take around 2 or 3 weeks to stick back up.
4th on left side, i got a surgery ( hurts like a motherfucker ) they have to make 3 holes , front, side and back, they get in there with a small camera from side, scissors from the front and little tool to grap the shit from the back, they have to pry your ribs and cut some nerves to get there, so when you wake up, you feel like somebody just smashed a baseball bat in those ribs, ti took 4 months for me to get back to work (physical job), 2 years and half later im still not 100% but it doesnt bother me that much, nerves arent totaly rebuilt yet, but he should have no problem sitting and playing computer games, the body fatigue builds up much faster so he wont be playing 10 hours straight for a while.
Got 2 more on right side since then, no more surgery. surgery somewhat changed my life, im gonna push back the 2nd one for as much i can. im 26 years old, first pneumo was at 19. i get those every 2 years or so.
P.S; The surgery isnt the hardest one to do. its quite simple and doesnt require time.. dont worry about it too much, the recovery is quite painfull, but the morhpine they give u helps ALOT.
Im with you, your not alone in that situation, dont give up! Get well soon , you have a new fan in me.

Hell no, if you have a 100% collapsed lung, your a not sleeping and its 911 emergency, 100% is death or a new lung, you MOST be mistaken maybe it was near 100% UP but not way in the world was it 100% down, sorry bro. at 40% you have back pain, you lose feeling in the throat and arm, you feel sick and turn green from the lack of white cells in your blood. And you would freak the FUCK out way before you breath from 1 lung. seriously..
P.S; 1st one i ever got was sitting in a car, and the 5 others were just random, i think the temperature plays a big role, it happens before winter or before summer. when temperature switch a lung collapse.. hopefully my left side wont EVER do it again, i had surgery on left, right is still weak and im betting itll drop sometime soon @.@

i said NEAR 100% in my post...
AND if you read my post correctly, they said it was near 100% when I went to the damn emergency room (which was 1.5 days after waking up with the initial pain) being unable to bear the pain. If you leave it untreated, it will obviously shrivel up more and be in worse condition. So I woke up with probably a mild pneumothorax and it rapidly worsened condition over that time span. That's what happens, with you know, leaks...
You think I casually walked into the hospital? LOL.... I had most of those symptoms and I thought I was going to die at any moment, and I obviously didn't fucking walk more than 10 steps the second day.
you assumed way too much BS in your post, not a very smart way of posting, sorry bro...

Oh very nice..... NO... If you go above 35% they insert a drain, put the drain in water and it bubbles gently, they remove the tube (drain) when the lung is pushing against it, pulling the drain stresses the tissues around the lung so it makes a even stronger tissue, if the patient had other pneumos in the past on the same lung, its up to the doctor to decide if they do a Bullectomie or a thoracotomie, bullectomie is not invasive, its only 3 small holes, doesnt leave a mark. Thoracotomie they open the whole side and that leaves a big mark, if bullectomie somehow goes wrong during procedure they do thoracotomie by default. if its under 35% they decide to either send you home with a visit in 2 weeks or keep you 2 or 3 days for safety but does not require any drain or surgery. 2 weeks and your back on your feet at 100%. If your lung goes down above 70% my buddy, your are not letting a second pass between 911. you CANNOT be consciously breathing from 1 lung while the other is collpsed, your deeply druged or knocked out, with emergency surgery the same day, and you would have a story to tell, this is no small tube or small holes.
|
Get well sC we care about you <3 !

Had one on my left lung back in October 2008 ,and on my right lung September 2009.
5 Days in the hospital each time , no surgery, as a common practice here you only for the surgery on a second pneumothorax on the same lung... supposedly theres a 60% chance of getting a pneumothorax on the same lung for the 2 following years...well guess im clear of that statistic pretty soon 5 Painful days
When I had my second pneumothorax I kinda knew what it was, but waited 2 weeks before going to hospital ...done my uni exams smoked my last pack of ciggys ...and quit smoking ever since
Get well fast

Good man, stop smoking. i had 3 and half years passed before my third one, the second on left side, Most of mine were small and i dont rush to hospital anymore, i know EXACTLY the symptoms and got pretty good at dealing with it, when you bend over or move around, you can ear your lung moving with some weirds inside noise, really funky... im still smoking after 6.. im such a dumbass.

Did you read my post? LOL, what the hell is this, that's like what my doctor told me a year ago, how does that have anything to do with the likelihood of my case? They didn't have the time (considering the urgency of my case) or the proper thoracic surgeon staff to give me anything but the drain the first time, then a little over a month later I got a bullectomie when it happened again, if you're at all curious, but I doubt you'll read this in detail anyways.

Just so you know, a pneumothorax does not equate to "a collapsed lung" like you might imagine (the whole thing isn't collapsed). Typically, when these occur spontaneously (without direct trauma or illness) it's in tall, lean individuals, called ectomorphs. Usually it is only a small portion of the lung which detaches from thoracic pleura and collapses. "Surgery" to repair, actually just involves introducing an escape for the air from the pleural space around the collapsed portion, and then patching the hole. I say "surgery" because you could do this with a needle/knife/steel rod/other sharp, vaguely pointy object.
In emergency situations, Paramedics can actually fix these in the field, so the entire procedure in hospital probably takes less than an hour, excluding the mandatory recovering time where you sit around. Pneumos are way scarier sounding than they really are most cases.
Hope you feel better sC!

Because only Team Liquid is more conservative than main stream media.
Thats sad to hear he's back in the hospital, best wishes to him, he's an excellent player. stay strong fxo!
|
Hope things good as well as they can for sC, he's brought on many entertaining games for his fans
|
Pneumothorax can be deadly. So i am just hoping for an recovery. Time is not important for the moment...

It's about wishing sC to get well, whether in a religious or non-religious way.
|
Oh damn, I hope he recovers fully.
|
Damn, what a shame. I still remember that epic series against Nestea - maybe it's just because of that, but sC is one of my favourite Terrans.
|
Maybe sc will secretly play some bw while he is in the hospital
|
I remember him for wearing those awesome sunglasses in the finals of that tournament DRG won, and for that awesome series against Nestea. One of my favorite players.. get well soon sCsC!
|
That sucks, I feel for him! Pneumothorax was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.
|
:O sigh SC get better soon
|
Swimming regularly is good to build lung strength when you suffer from pneumothorax, my brother had it once, and l know someone who stopped it from reoccuring after doing this kind of exercise. Please let sC know!
|
|
|
Oh man, poor guy! Hope he gets better soon!
|
In young people its often related to exercise or trauma. If he is getting real surgery it must have been a really important one, since the usual treatment for the mild ones is not surgery, but rather a chest tube, and maybe that is what they are calling surgery. Either way, hope its nothing serious.
|
Wow that sucks, Hopes he gets well soon.
|
Feel better soon sCsC!
Hope you make a full recovery and are back in action asap!! sC fighting!
|
Just last night I was rereading the a bit of the thread from the ro4 Nestea vs. sC game. bummed out to hear this. Such an exciting player! Best wishes!
|
That's sad. Wishing for a speedy recovery.
|
D: I can only hope he makes a swifty recovery
|
oh god, this is terrible... hope he gets well soon :'(
|
Please permanently get better soon, sC. Fighting!
|
So sad to hear, best wishes to him to get well soon
|
Is there a reason why it happened or did it happen at random? This is terrible, not a good year for him it seems. Hopefully MVP will take very good care of him.
|
Oh man, that's awful.

I wouldn't call it TL having a conservative or pro-religious point of view. It's just that they ban stupid, unconstructive troll comments.

Oh man thats rough. Feel better sC.
|
I hope he gets better soon, its pains me to see any pro player have these kinds of things happen to them.

it's okay, he's got Mules... terrans can't die

Pneumothorax sucks (well, being in hospital for whatever reason obviously sucks), but I think it's not as bad as people think it is.
I had it twice and had a surgery the second time. I stayed in hospital for about a week both times and I was fine afterwards. I hope it's similar for sc, se he can be out of hospital again soon.

To be fair, I don't enjoy having religion crammed down my throat either. "Praying" certainly isn't something you do to a tree.
ps winter is coming
also, get better

I hope he gets better soon, he is a sick sick player! Miss him in Code S too.

praying has been proved to be useless so.. i dunno

Or it may have been a stupid post that said and added nothing and was meant solely to incite argument with no real relation to the original point of the thread. In other words, bullshit. But no, you're right it was TL's rigid, unreasonable, conservative standards.
Pretty terrible about sC though. I can't say I'm the biggest fan but the games I've watched of his I've enjoyed. Especially considering his age, pretty awful thing to happen.
|
...Uhh first the hand and now this... Poor sC I hope he recovers fast and alright.
|
|
|
Terrible, i hope Sc gets better.
|
All the best and a speedy recovery sC! Always fun to watch your Marine/Tank pushes of doom!
|
oh damn. sC get well soon man!
|
|
|
Man, sc has a huge future in sc2. This is so unfortunate.
|
Such a good player! get well soon man!
|
Its always unfortunate when a good, solid player like sC has to have surgery for something. Especially something as serious as this! Here's to a safe operation and a speedy recovery!

Pneumothorax is not a big deal. What people here should be worrying about is what caused his lung to collapse.
I had a full right Pneumothorax a few years ago (Due to doctor poking a needle into my lung) and I had to have a minor surgery and spend 4 days in the hospital, after that I was good to go. I couldn't do any exercise for a couple weeks but I do remember playing WC3 a lot during that time and not having any issues.
I really hope everythings okay though, looking forward to some good news.

I really hope everythings okay though, looking forward to some good news. Depends on the type. If it's a Tension Pneumothorax you NEED to get a chest tube in or else the air will build up until it finally cuts off venous return to the heart. And then it's game over.
But otherwise, it's true that the big concern now will be the reason for the Pneumothorax. Odds are, he might have gotten a chest tube and close observation, or a tube-delivered pleurodesis to seal the hole, but this time it'll probably require "actual surgery" to make sure this doesn't happen again.

i'm not kidding guys, i got pneumothorax 5 times. ofc it could be a big threat for your life, if its on the left side of your body (cause of the heart) and nobody notice it. the surgery will take about max. 2 hours and he will have to stay about 2 weeks in hospital, after that he will have to chill about 1 month. during that time he can practise as usual. it's not that big thing as you might think of! anyways
get well soon mate, i know what you have to suffer now!

A little bit off topic, but didn't you get surgery the second time your lung collapsed? The second time it happened to me doctors immidiately told me it would be best to remove the part that collapsed (it was the same part both times) so it won't happen again.
Other than that, I agree. Pneomothorax is (usually) not that big of a deal. Although there are different kinds and I don't know all of them. I think and hope sc should be fine again very soon.

As someone who couldn't play because of wrist pain for 2 weeks, I tell you that only if you've experienced being disabled by a disease or pain then you'd know how terrible feels. In that case, sometimes starcraft becomes the least of your worries.
