Choi Jong-Hwan –Coca- is moving from ZeNex to Slayers.
On 17th of August, Slayers has revealed via press that they have decided to get Coca. Coca will compete in MLG from upcoming 26th to 29th. Coca, who is practicing at home by himself right now needed an environment where he could focus on his practice, therefore he joined SlayerS quickly [quicker than he would have joined]
On the matters of this player transfer, there were some misunderstandings as the protocol for transfer is lacking at the moment. But it was solved on good faith by cooperative negotiation between Slayers Jessica and Coach Yun Hee Won of Zenex.
[The rest of the article is about how Slayers Jessica is happy to have Coca]
It all seem well until the owner of ZeNex, Kim Dae Gi, asked the reporter of ThisIsGame to stop posting the article, as it is wrong. He claims that SlayerS has stolen Coca from ZeNex
‘@Altair1973 [the reporter] [Coca] was not transferred on good terms, so could you delete your article please. At the moment ,I am of understanding that SlayerS has stolen our player.’
‘I have raised the issue with SlayerS team and asked for press correction but I was declined, and I am planning to give an official statement about this issue’
Then SlayerS Jessica reacts to the tweets
‘The transfer was decided with the coach of ZeNex by agreement of both parties with presence of a witness. If you need the testimony, you can have as much [as testimony as you like]’
‘Stop asking for 어설픈 * rights. You should at least do what you need to do. Then you can speak for your rights. My reactions are reactions to your actions. I am always prepared to fight’
*[not sure how to translate어설픈 without making it sound so negative. It’s direct translation is lame, but it carries so much negative connotations]
At the moment, not enough information is available for a full judgment of the matter. But tbh personally I am kinda suspecting SlayerS to be at fault since there is no smoke without a fire. If the transfer was ‘on good terms’ as they claim, why the f*** is ZeNex owner pissed off? That’s not what's called ‘on good terms’
Oh come on, first Puma then Nasl then huk. I honestly can't even care at this point. They're like bickering high school girls. The community needs a break from the drama
With all this drama surrounding the lack of proper protocol surrounding the inter-team transfer of players, i'm sure that it should'nt take too long before everyone is either 1) put on contract or 2) A proper transfer protocol standard is put in place.
Because really there is so much nonsense drama going around because of this... It's so hard for a team to make a simple acquisition without causing a ruckus somewhere. It took every effort by TL to avoid such things and it took them forever to acquire herO.
Korean teams have to understand that players are not their property, one can not "steal" them. They are persons that decide on their own which team they want to play for. If they want to play for a different one so be it, its a free society right?
On August 17 2011 21:53 Telcontar wrote: I'm overdosing on all this e-drama. I think I need a break....
Same here, it seems mostly be from the Koreans. I mean EG and TSL thing was both, same with NASL and Sc2con. But between TL and EG there was no problems. But I guess this is not the same thing, excuse me if I'm wrong.
They REALLY need to have a more concrete licensing organization for SC2 progamers, to stop genius teams from snanking players from the grasps of their current teams.
What is up with the Korean scene and all the miss-communication going on? Please for God's sake, get it all in writing or something. o_o
I cant tell based on article if there was a paper contract or if this was a verbal agreement. It seems like the only way for a Korean to transfer teams calmly is for them to already be partnered with them and the owners be old time friends o_O (referring to liquidHero)
EDIT: recent incidents make me feel that the korean scene is just unprofessional =( I thought they would have a better hang of things since they had a system in SC1, but I guess since one organization doesnt own everything, it's kind of like starting over.
Knowing Slayers and jessica, i think they werent at fault, they are just very swift with their actions. Good business approach and the only thing im really hoping for is that they did it with agreement from coach of ZeNeX.

Yeah, lets limit the rights of Korean players even more, so that the teams can continue to pay them barely no money for all the hard work they do. Again, players are no slaves, they should not be owned by teams.

Yep, its because of evil EG... again.
It is as if everything was planned by a third party... a third evil party... and that without leaving any proof, one might call that genius!
Jokes aside, I am starting to get tired of players stealing, teams leaving and what else not from Korea, I hope they can finally get their act together! 1st rule: you cannot steal a player that is not under contract, heck, Coca didn't even live in the team house! Anyways, I wonder what is the root of this problem, considering that the coach agreed and the owner is angry (both are not the same person, are they?).
Well, this seems like a good time for me to leak the information that Zenex is dissolving??? Everyone in korea already knows this. I'd say this is why slayers moved on coca.

that post is useful.
Btw, so does that mean gstl is now down 2 teams? or is previously known as fou still going to compete separate from fxo?
I dont understand the fuss about this and what is stealing ? SlayerS obviously made a better offer, the player quit and joined SlayerS. The only fault is the other team offering less or having a bad climate.

I did not know about this! Very logical explanation actually, thanks
There is really a big problem with Korean team management at the moment... They have the players but their management and PR is terrible at the moment >_<.
I for once do not understand the word "steal", in all of these cases.
If Coca had a contract then Zenex can take him to court, but since this isn't the case they cant expect players to stay with them regardless of salary and training environment, just because they "must'...

Had there still been any announcements of announcements around I would've called miss Kim Ga-yeon an Evil Genius right here....
Nah, she's awesome. Korean teams really need to get their player contracts in line because it looks like their players are leaving with anyone that says something nice to them.
And all the ensuing drama is unprofessional, hurting ESPORTS, bringing famine to the horn of Africa and making Elly sad.....

Stay classy korean SC2 teams! This policy of making incredibly incendiary public comments any time anything happens sure is working out great! Totally doesn't make you look like jerks with ridiculously inflated egos or anything!

Wow!
That's some big news there. ZENEX have a lot of great players like Hack, Line, Byun and Puzzle.
All of them are really good players that could easily be an addition to any team!
I must say I am disappointed with the never-ending Twitter flame wars... I believe for most Korean teams at the moment there is a lack of player-team contracts, which is what is helping this issue to surface repeatedly (cf. Puma for instance). If they will not tighten up the contract issue, this will keep popping up over and over again. Right now it is far too trust-based, but trust can be abused. That is why contracts were invented.
Also, I think the best way to understand "어설픈" would be "superficial". But clearly, something is up.

Not too surprising, they have good players but no results so far. If FoU was having financial troubles than Zenex would likely be in the same situation.
WAIT ? zenex is dissolving ? NOoo what about the puppy!! Zenex seemed to be a legitimately strong team with so many clanmembers to help the team. It makes mea bit sad that next GSTL might be 3 teams short.
SlayerS_Jessica is always ready to fight :D I don't think slayers would do this the wrong way. They cannot say that they came to an agreement in front of the coach with a witness and have it not be true. Could they?

Sooo much drama indeed. This seems to happen a lot. Where one side says "No man we arranged it, the other team said it was cool, they're moving to our team" and the other one is like "wtf they're shady pricks who went behind our back and stole our player."
I hate to suggest anything like Kespa but maybe there needs to be some kind of regulation for this sort of thing.
I don't get how they speak about "stealing"? As long as the player is ok to join a new team, I don't think teams should say anything..., at least not talk about stealing...
Zenex is dissolving because of lack of money? it seems SC2 in Korea was an utter failure despite the amount of talent. I guess they have at best the support for 4 to 5 teams, playing a lot in foreign tournaments.

Looking forward to that! Puzzle is my favourite player on ZeNEX, either join NSHoseo, or join oGs and become brotoss with MC
That is a brilliant pick up by SlayerS. CoCa is quite bad against terran so all the new terran pratcie partners will benefit him greatly. SlayerS players are largely terrible vs protoss while CoCa is extremely good against protoss, so in team league games they finally have a protoss snipers. Interesting to see how this drama plays out.
I find this hard to believe and they have a witness who can confirm it all went down ok. Nothing else to it except someone on zenex being a bit bitter. Life moves on.

I wonder the same thing. While the foreign SC2 teams seem to be having no problem financially, Korean SC2 teams seem to be struggling a lot.

Most foreign SC2 teams are from multi-game dynasties that have been slowly building up for 6+ years and have weathered various bubble bursts and know how to attract and maintain sponsor relationships. Pretty much all the korean SC2 team (apart from WeMade) are new teams and a lot, if not all the team managers are doing it for the first time. They may have been coaches before but it's a completely different job and skillset required.
So much drama in SC2! Great pick by Slayers though. I'm glad that player like Coca will get supported and getting good practice enviroment. I just hope that this won't end up like the Puma-EG-TSL mess.
Don't know if I got this right, but I believe SlayerS got Coca talking with the coach, and the owner didn't know... So now the owner thinks it's SlayerS fault for not talking to him?
On August 17 2011 22:07 Stiluz wrote: I expect everyone that hates EG for the Puma deal to now hate Slayers equally as much... -.- (double standards wut?)
Sounds to me like SlayerS had communicated with the coach and the owner is the one that is mad, which explains why SlayerS is saying they communicated with the team. If this is the case, then SlayerS acted properly, or as well as could be expected so it would not be a double standard.

I agree. Using twitter to accuse Slayers just makes this feel like the Zenex owner is trying to make noise, but is really just butthurt about his own situation.

Well, good pickup for SlayerS, but that's pretty much irrelevant. It seems possible SlayerS is at fault, but I can't exactly decide. Not that my opinion really means anything in the big picture though atm (>,<)
Wait... what?... Did Blizzard give Zerg Blueflame mutalisks or what is a Zerg doing on SlayerS?
Kidding aside, i'd rather go with the Emperor and his Empress than with ZeNEX. They are in the business for too long to do things the wrong way. There might be a misunderstanding but i doubt there was any intentional foul play.

I dont understand why people are still trying to make this negative in any light....Slayers acquired Coca after having a talk with the Zenex Coach and leaving it on good terms, also FXOpen also stated in this thread saying that Zenex is dissolving soo why is there a need for this new pickup to be negative?
So much drama. Regardless of what happened with the transfer this seems like a good move for Coca and for Slayers. Sucks that the owner of ZeNEX feels he got screwed over in this situation but what can you do.

Blizzard fucked up because instead of doing what they have done now(which is, they FINALLY gave up and entered a somewhat PARTNERSHIP) they kept pushing to Kill BW to get SC2 on the scene.
Not to mention that they absolutely failed embracing the PC bang culture which is there in Korea. You CAN NOT go into a random PC bang and play SC2, you need to buy an account, you can walk into ANY pc bang and play BW.

Good pickup for Slayers. Their zerg line is quite weak with only Min being anywhere close to decent. Sucks big time for Zenex. The lineup of Puzzle, Byun, Hack and Coca was actually respectable.
What the hell is going on these days? So much drama everywhere. Hopefully it will lead to some kind of organisation, and better regulation of player transfers in order to avoid all this shit.
Anyway, nice pick up by SlayerS, they really need those Zergs and protoss.

That's certainly what it sounds like. I can't imagine Jessica lying about having talked to the coach (because that's pretty damn easy to prove wrong -- why would you lie like that if you're just going to get called out on it as soon as it's public?). It sounds like a miscommunication inside ZeNex, but we'll have to wait and see. Really unfortunate, though -- enough drama lately, I saw Coca signing with Slayers in the sidebar here and thought, "Finally, a transfer with no drama!" Wrong >.> Hope they get this all straightened out soon.
Zenex dissolving? Damn. I wonder if Slayers will try to scoop up anyone else from them. Add puzzle to slayers and that team becomes really, really scary.
It all seem well until the owner of ZeNex, Kim Dae Gi, asked the reporter of ThisIsGame to stop posting the article, as it is wrong
I'm getting fucking sick of this.
Coaches, teams, organisations seem to think they have the authority to demand articles be removed from the internet because it doesn't correlate with their side of the story. Writers, contributors and journalists aren't tools for fucking organisations to abuse whenever they like.
If they disagree, talk to the journalist and give them ANOTHER story to write that reflects YOUR facts.
Another day, another story about unprofessional behaviour from Korea. Can someone punch them all in the jaw and get them to wake up. They couldn't have set a worse example over the last week if they'd tried.

Where is there anything about Zenex dissolving? If they were, why would the owner care about a player signing with a different team? Just asking -- I've seen a few people mention it like it's a fact, but not seeing any news posted on TL yet, so not sure if it's true or just people spreading rumors.

How many years did it took to settle this bullshit? Anyway here's the result: a shaky and weak scene that could implode any moment. I may be wrong but there's a reason why the korean scene is so precarious.
Blame Blizzard, they fucked it up, not KeSPA or the korean goverment.
KeSPA is laughing their asses off prolly.
What? the law is the law, not even KeSPA is above it. If they didn't drop the case and went to court, how do you think it would have ended up? edit, you cannot deny that the lack of support from KeSPA is an essential factor
Ow, and they gave GomTV monopoly on SC2 broadcasting too.
this is offtopic tho, so nevermind it.
Ok fair enough. I'm sorry, I was pissed off, I shouldn't have brought this topic but when I take a look at the korean scene I can't help but feel that this is a waste. It could have been so much stronger overall...
This is becoming a turnoff to me (all the pointing fingers and negative attention). There is seemingly no professionalism and communication going on here. I'm happy for Coca, I honestly don't care about what the owner or coach thinks, the players are what matters IMO. He's a great player and should only improve from here on.

Slayers probably have enough terrans, IM could use byun they've been trying to show in the GTSL that they're more than MVP, losira and nestea (The result was a white dude all killing them) so they might pick up byun to expand the team's presence in code S beyond the obvious 3.

Boss, which it's probably him on that account (though not always), isn't much of a troll. So it might just be the Zenith/NEX mash up might be breaking. I know has much as you do.
Perhaps Zenex felt it was CoCa's personal right to choose which team to go on, despite them not supporting him. So while they let him go, Zenex still feels robbed? Just guessing.

Really, it was only a matter of time. There are just too many teams, and just not feasible financially. Too bad that SC2 is taking off at a slower pace than most anticipated. Hopefully when the games are actually on cable TV more sponsors would be interested in showing their support. GOMTV is doing their best, but it's just not enough.

Not too surprising, they have good players but no results so far. If FoU was having financial troubles than Zenex would likely be in the same situation.
Why not merge together with another team? Wouldn't that help Zenex?
Merge again?
team zenexNSHoseo
More like ZeNSHoseo.
But then NEX would lose their identity since zenex came from Zenith + NEX
Great pick by SlayerS. CoCa is beastly vs P which SlayerS really needs. He doesn't have the best ZvT but that shouldn't be a problem once he starts training in the SlayerS team house.
too bad to hear about zenex if it's true. they were just starting to get better too with puzzle and coca both having good showings. certainly came a long way from the embarrassing days of the first 2 GSTLs.

The only competition that is a necessity and a good thing is the competition in the game.
It's far too early for any other sort of competitions to start. Which is why a real regulating body is needed to enforce parity or at least a clear set of rules and limits.

The coaches talked. Zenex coached failed to inform the owner. Different situations, but nice try I guess.
And yes it is called business. EG did things the shady way between organizations. Zenex failed in their internal business communications.

I don't think it's going to happen, to be honest. Activision/Blizzard/whoever wanted to take authoritative control with Starcraft 2 completely missed what caused Starcraft 1 to explode in the first place. In Korea, anyway.
The foreign scene is flourishing though, so no problem. I'm getting the feeling that eventually the Korean scene will die a slow death.

Hating drama doesn't mean each side won't stand up for themselves when a conflict occurs.
Hating drama means making steps to prevent needless conflict from happening in the first place (or having strict regulations on how to handle it so that nobody can get upset). It seems like the SC2 scene didn't yet mature enough for that though.
Apparently ZeNEX coach agreed that Coca move to SlayerS, beside Coca didnt even stayed in ZeNEX team house, showing him inactive on ZeNEX. Apparently it was HIS decision to go SlayerS. I really demand reporter to not talk publicly unless you are 100% aware of situation..
I guess I don't see the big deal. A player moved teams, team he left is mad, team he went to is happy.
What pro sports scene doesn't have things like this.
It's not that big a deal, if the players don't have signed contracts they can float around all they want. I just love all the little kiddies on here getting so upset about adults doing what is best for their career (in their opinion) when they aren't bound by signed contracts. People talking about "getting players in other sports" is fucking stupid. You know in sports they pay a fuck ton of money to the team in order to get a player. SlayerS just took CoCa... when Real Madrid bought Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for $132,488,000 SlayerS just said "oh hey CoCa heres some money kekekeke (or at least as the manager says.)
This is getting silly. It's the same story over and over again. One of the parties announce the transfer and depict it as having gone smoothly. Then the other party responds to lash out at the first party, condemning the transfer. These affairs should be conducted through proper channels and with protocols to prevent all the, at the moment, inevitable drama.

and yes, in that game called football, they are actually paying their players with salary and have a contract (shocking ! how dare they !)
Great news for SlayerS CoCa is a fantastic zerg player, him in a full on practice environment like the SlayerS house will make him 10 times as scary, not to mention SlayerS has amazing terrans but lacks a strong dominate zerg. I feel CoCa can fill this role in time. Best of luck, SlayerS fighting!

Look it's stupid to feel outraged when you have one article, two conflicting reports and a whole lot of confusion. When this matter is settled I will decide who I should be angry with. I don't understand. It's unlikely that Slayers offered a huge salary, and I'm not sure Zenex was capable either.
This leaves only the possibility that CoCa personally wanted to go to Slayers, and wasn't bound contractually or by loyalty/"KOREAN HONOR", doesn't it?

Very saddening to here ZeNEX is disbanding. They have some very talented players, and I hope they find suitable homes soon.

EG's drama consists of: Everyone getting half the story from coach Lee saying they stole Puma. People flipped out, reacted, and made them permanently out to be the villains. And then the other half of the story came out.
That's it.
And reputation has nothing to do with it. Nobody flipped out yesterday because of their reputation.

blahhh... as a fan of Slayers, I want to say get out ZeNEX's boss- but at this stage, every exchange seems to be gray-area and shady, because probably nobody has real serious contracts and everyone can claim the "trust based relationship," and other bs.
Is it just me, or is SlayerSJessica making a negative splash by being so involved in, and exaserbating, nearly all the drama we've seen in the Korean scene? I'm not hating on Jessica, and definently not on SlayerS or the Emporor, just an observation.

There were tons of pictures taken by CSN when they held clash of the houses (not sure if it's the right name). There were at least 10 players in there. I honestly have no idea how do they fit into the apartment, but they did it.

Jessica saying she has a witness makes me think that she is in the right, but it is so hard to tell from such a distance. I am also a biased Slayers fanboy though...
This is so much drama it's not even funny. Someone really needs to tell me(us) how does a standard transfer(of anything) go in Korea without either side complaining. So far, every Korean related transfer(aside from Hero i think) had a trail of dust behind it.
People are going to have some trouble taking SC2 as a serious sport with little childish squabbles in management! More management types in SC2 need to be like Nazgul!
Nice pickup from Slayers. I'm pretty sure Jessica has her witness ready and Boxer doesn't need any underhand tricks to recruit players, so I honestly don't think anyone did anything illegal here.

From observing the drama threads carefully I have inferred the following approximate ruleset:
1) If the player is on our team we a) have a trust-based relationship b) made him the player he is today c) are in dire need of this player and are in a sensitive part of our team-building efforts. All mean that no one should acquire the player. 2) If the player is on another team and we want him: put him in a bag and run before his teammates wake up. 3) Where conflicts occur conjure drama, twitter arguments and threaten the other party till netizens judge the rightful owner (this is the modern version of letting the gods judge men by seeing who wins a fight to the death).

Yes, which is why I apologise. I apologised to the korean community also as they took it seriously too.
the reason why there's more drama over there than in the rest of the world is because they actually train the players, mentor them, expecting them to stay on the team when they will be as good as they're potential let them be. Most of the foreign team pick up players to represent them, but I feel like in Korea they develop them with a lot of care. I would be pissed too.

Brilliant analogy. “Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out”
Oh god, So releived ZeNEX isn't actually dissolving. Good for Coca then, Get that ZvT up to his ridiculous ZvP with the insane powers of Slayers Terran Need Line to come up from Code B to take resident Zerg gosu spot (sorry Kyrix) I still love you Coca

Don't worry. You won't be warned or banned like other team liquid forum members who have pulled the same stunt.
Oh god the TL Gestapo are at my door. Uhm... ALL HAIL TEAM LIQUID. ALL HAIL TEAM LIQUID.
Lmao. qft
Yes, turning off TL.net whilst jetlagged sounds like a very good idea. If you're going to troll, do it on an alt account instead of a FXO one for obvious reasons -.-.
Unless you pay and contract your players there is no reasonable expectation for them to stay on a team. And when the contract runs out, negotiations begin again. If someone else can pay more, say bye.
How this is so difficult to understand is beyond me.
Duuuuuude...... Why such a huge drama whenever there's a transfer? Why don't they do it like Liquid and EG when Huk was transferred to EG? Korean coaches have been watching too much novel... =/ That makes me sad!
i usually don't post because it just ends up echoing most of the other posts- but REALLY?? REALLY? Wtf is up with all this player signing while lying about agreement. I wish s2con or w/e had some power to regulate this kind of stuff in korea.

To be honest, I wouldn't really pin the blame for that on the community, it wasn't really that well set up of a joke to begin with. It came across more like just information.
Yes, which is why I apologise. I apologised to the korean community also as they took it seriously too.
I should turn team liquid off whilst jet lagged.
See, the problem is you *haven't* really trolled us before. So I even pointed this out. >_< Then you trolled! Yeah, Jetlag will do that.
obviously all completely untrue as korean culture is known for its honorable and straightforward way of doing business. particularly in regards to player transfers.

I agree with this. I'd first point fingers at the ZeNeX administration, because I doubt SlayerS, of all teams, would be the type to steal a player without even asking their head coach.

Well, it sounds like this move was best for Coca, and why would Slayers just lie about talking to the head coach? Doesn't make sense. This is exactly the kind of player Slayers needs though.

What a surprise, more Korean player movement drama. I understand the frustrations teams must have when they lose a player, especially with, still, such a new game. But seriously, there needs to be competition both in and outside of the game. Teams need to stop thinking they have their players locked up and, instead, start thinking how they can hold on to them better

See, EG? Now that's how you acquire a player. None of that dirty money, poaching players behind the back of the teams and coaches. Look at the superior Korean culture you dirty American dogs, where business is still done with honour and out in the open so there are no hard feelin

Also I am sure Coca wanted to come to Slayers for their training regime & structure. There has to be a reason why Slayers players are being so successful these days. =)
This is an outrage, Coca gave up on the team that raised him to the player he is today and went for a greedy money grab. SlayerS should be ashamed of themselves for poaching poor ZeNEX's player with a more attractive offer./s
Seriously though, SlayerS now has 2 pretty damn good Zergs. Nice pickup.

Of course no one says that when it's SlayerS getting the player... but for HuK or PuMa...
Coca is gonna become very big name in the upcoming months. He kinda already is, but there's so much potential in his play that has not been fully applied in the tournaments. SlayerS signed the best.
Is it too much to pass a week just having awesome games to talk about? Why is there always so much media flaming? Seriously, just start having players sign f****** contracts.

Quite a few people said it actually, earlier on in the thread (and in a non sarcastic way ).
Obviously it's not going to produce reactions of the same magnitude as not many people on TL are emotionally invested in CoCa, but it's basically the same thing (if true ofc)
However, it IS kind of weird that SlayerS would actually do something underhanded to acquire a player considering they were initially very outspoken about NOT wanting to recruit players who are already on teams and wanting to build a team from their own group of trainees.
It would be kind of disappointing if they decided to go against that principle now.
Come on Korea, can't you just let the other team know you're going to be taking their player and giving them life changing salaries like civilized human beings?
why are these hurt manager's/coach trying to reach out to the press? If there's anything seriously wrong, they can talk about it between themselves and find a solution. By making a big fuss over a player, it singles that player out to the media.
If there's any conflicts, legal actions can be made unless another TSL-no-contract shitstorm happens.
BTW, the other team knows about this, but the higherups don't agree or didn't get notified.
I forget who, the manager, or some higher up kespa dictator?
Grats Coco and SlayerS! Confused why an owner wouldnt know about a trade his coach is doing, but even more confused why he would go public without first checking with his coach, other coach etc etc...

Making a huge assumption that the ZeNEX Coach was okay with it here.
Lol wow this is a great pick up by SlayerS. What I like to know is how the transfer really went down since there always seems to be some sort of miscommunication these days...
I'm going to have to confess a double standard here. I'm totally supportive of SlayerS in this case, even though I was hating on EG regarding Puma and HuK.
If people read the OP carefully, the coach was directly involved in Coca's transfer. The owner was left out of the loop and is going nuts. So there is no direct parallel to Puma's situation.

Anyway if the owner is pissed he should be pissed at the Coach not Jessica. Jessica went through the proper channels in contacting the team herself. They came to an agreement and even had a witness.

That's according to SlayerS though, clearly ZeNEX (or its owner) doesn't think so.
It's called bias: taking Slayers_Jessica's word at face value while questioning EG.Alex. I'm not an EG fan, but I just think it's ridiculous (personally I support all the transfers, players should have the rights assuming they're not breaching a contract)

EG.Alex and EG didn't present anything at face value. We had SirScoots responding to trolls on twitter with "u mad bro?". Then we had Alex trying to justify his actions on a talk show that is arguably biased in his favor.
I wish SlayerS get Puzzle so that they can have a well balanced line up, I feel like Alicia and Frozen is not enough Toss, CoCa is a good addition for Zerg.

They might as well just absorb Zenex at that point.

I actually hope not, Puzzle is the team captain of zenex and from what I understand is sort of the players leader.
I would fear for the rest of the zenex team if they lose their best player and player leader

Congrats to CoCa and SlayerS, who finally gets a decent (even good!) Zerg player. Condolences to ZeNEX. I hope all parties can sort this out without anymore accusations being slung about.
Now, if SlayerS could get a bigger Protoss line-up, that would be great.
For a minute there I thought that Coca cola was becoming a sponsor of Slayers, but then I read the whole thing and I gotta say that the amount of drama in the Korean sc2 scene is getting pretty stupid and annoying. With all the new drama every day someone can probably gonna make a retarded love tv series imo.
Wow, great for Slayers. I've been loving Coca's play lately and Min needs a fellow zerg. And if Coca was able to make it out of that group of death last season I think he's going to blow us away after training in a proper environment.

Yeah, lets limit the rights of Korean players even more, so that the teams can continue to pay them barely no money for all the hard work they do. Again, players are no slaves, they should not be owned by teams.
I really agree with this. If players want to sign contracts fine, maybe then they can actually get paid. But if they are not under contract they have no obligation to pass up a better offer.
at this point I'd rather have kespa presiding over player transactions

If the player wants to go somewhere, how could the coach really stop him? He's not a piece of furniture he could lock in the basement. Coca wasn't even living in the team house and probably didn't have much of a financial connection to Zenex.
Coca tells the coach I want to leave, the coach can let him walk or try to make the best of the situation. Regardless of what the coach wants.
Look at Huk leaving TL. Clearly TL didn't want him leaving, but they couldn't stop him; so they worked something out and wished him the best.

He's done nothing, whereas Jessica is well-known to this community. Jessica just has better (and more positive) publicity, so people are willing to side with her more, especially given her character. On the other hand, we don't know anything about the ZeNEX owner. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it is better than having a bad rep, but at the same time, it doesn't really give us any reason to trust what he says.
Just explaining the logic here. I'm too tired of the drama to pick sides now, to be honest.

I just meant the bad rep for EG, I didn't mean that for ZeNex owner. From the sound of it by the response from Nex over at PlayXP, the situation got out of hand because the news of Coca's transfer to Slayers was released before it was even finalized. Since the owner of ZeNex was not told of this before, he had to vent his anger on twitter. It seems unprofessional, but we all know this is not the first time Korean teams acted this way.

Yeah or join IM, that means if Puzzle can manage to win Code S now and maybe one-two more IM will have all the best players in each race.

If not, and especially considering the shitstorm surrounding PuMa, that's just super naiive. Especially since CoCa was probably hanging out with SlayerS a LOT during MLG.
Do you know anything at all? CoCa is going to the NEXT MLG.
CoCa's trade was negotiated by the coach, but the coach didn't tell the owner.
This is NOTHING like EGPUMA.
God damn some people, just like to spread shit to spread shit.

Partially because they are the first to provide details.
LoL jk. Any action taken by BoxeR is one that is justified & any action taken by SlayerS management is simply an extension of his will. BoxeR can do no wrong.
Great addition btw. I think CoCa is a great player often displaying well thought out builds. I just needs a nurturing environment like SlayerS to really shine!

Great pickup, SlayerS seem to have an amazing bunch of Ts now they may produce a ZvT master.
The drama seems to stem from the inexplicably disorganized Korean scene. Lately we've had players without contracts, abusive coaches now coaches who don't tell the team owner about things and no protocol for player transfers ...
All this seems awfully unprofessional.
Seeing as Gom organizes the tournaments (and consequently has almost any team by the short hairs if they need to) couldn't they set up a basic set of rules for the formation of teams and recruitment/transfers?
Rule 1 should be "use Korean law by putting it in writing and signing it".
Rule 2 should be "hire a f*king lawyer to apply Rule 1".

Many of these teams can barely afford to feed and house their players. They can't even afford a $500 deposit to participate in the NASL, yet you expect them to be able to afford legal counsel?
What kind of Zerg in his right mind would go to the same team that MMA is? Getting practise is one thing but getting stomped over and over again is another, lol.

If CoCa starts slumping, we'll know the cause.
Same with Alicia, I guess. I foresee lots of Coca and Alicia practice sessions to help Alicia's PvZ.
Update: PlayXP posted an article stating that the player trade had not been finalised at the time the TIG article went to press. Apparently CoCa told ZeNEX he would be leaving the team on the 14th, and while this was being handled by ZeNEX they were told that he had moved to SlayerS on the 16th. SlayerS_Jessica first contacted ZeNEX on the 16th, and while discussions were ongoing the original article mentioned in OP went to press. Additional comments left on the article by NEX clan members state that while the head coach was informed the manager was not (which clearly is why he raged on Twitter, understandably so). Well the cards have now been fully dealt, let's see where they go from here...

Writing up a standard contract could be done by Gom. It's a basic step for almost any company to have a standard contract made and all teams could use the same one changing the numbers.
We aren't talking about hiring a lawyer per team, all they need is a standard contract and the team leaders/Gom to get together and decide on basic process for recruitment and transfer. This of course would be a lot easier if all the players were on the same type of contract.

What a shock the exact thing that anyone could read into from the original article is actually true, the coach knew but the manager didn't hence why Jessica said she talked to the team yet the manager was raging. It was a miscommunication of the Zenex team. Can 30% of the posts to this thread now stop being a "Why the double standard?!" or reference to EG as it is clearly not the same thing?
Wow, playxp is clearly lacking in professionalism. On SlayerS part, it seems that they should have approached the manager and the coach. For ZeNex, the coach should've approached the manager (huh? why didn't he...) yet another big misunderstanding with no legal paper so... lulz

Can a mod or OP starter put this in the OP, please?
Also, does this mean that Slayers approached Coca directly and struck a deal with him? Coca told Zenex he would be leaving on the 14th, and Jessica contacted them on the 16th.
Am I the only one who has that feeling that SlayerS_Jessica actually is the ONLY Korean team manager who "get's" the business aspect? Sounds like ZeNex owner is pissed 'cause nobody asked for his permission. Seriously, Korean team managers/owners need some business training.
Well, let's just blame EG again...duh...
[edit] Imagine a cooperation between SlayerS & EG - rage drama everywhere! Please EGAlex & SlayerS_Jessica make it happen! So many lulz [/edit]
As far as i know there are no contracts between players and the team yet in SC2 Esport scene, everything is based on trust. Legally speaking players can act on their free will.
In my opinion, Coca has responsibility too to at least inform the team's owner that he is leaving, which he has absolute right to do so since there is no contract. However if the coach is the player's only communication channel to the boss. Then the coach will carry all the responsibility.

what can i say. i guess even the coaches and bosses are too busy practicing/laddering instead of having proper communication and run the team. Choya? Cella? TheWind? LOL all are decent part time players.
Sweet, great to see SlayerS adding some racial diversity to their lineup. I wonder if Coca will develop into a sick ZvT player given his practice partners...
min and coca! I actually said to myself when I saw Coca play that he should join slayers as I am a slayers fanboy, glad to see my profetic fanboyism came true
another player with huge potential is on a team as an uncontracted practice partner with no pay or benefits, and then when this practice partner is offered a deal by a team who can appreciate them and help foster their growth, the first team who have kept him basically as a slave, for free, get pissed off.
Just like in the EG case, ZENex can f* off. Treat your player better and put them under contract if you want to avoid things like this from happening.
Korean business dealings sure are some crazy stuff. I think SOTG hit the nail on the head when they said Koreans try to play hardball. It seems like player transfers outside of Korea go off without a hitch more times than not. I really can't recall a Korean team switch that didn't invoke some aggression.

To be fair, minor player transfers that go off without a hitch don't make the news, so no one pays attention. I'd have to search to find who, but there have been a few times during GSL when Tastosis or the LR thread mentions that a player used to be on a different team. It happens, we just don't hear about it unless you happen to follow a particular player or team very closely, or perhaps if you read PlayXP.

Yeah, but even Huk to EG went off without a huge shitfest. Tons of people are bummed out over it, but there wasn't mudslinging between the two teams (between the fans, all bets are off.)

They aren't business dealings. These players aren't even getting paid for the most part. Look at BW if you want to see how salaried pros deal with team changes and contracts, but SC2 is no where near that in Korea.

Actually, from what I recall, every player transfer has some drama involved in Korea. Even the minor ones. Like Taeja all-killing ZENex, TSL getting butthurt about Puma, Tester to ST. I don't recall a single player transfer that wasn't an issue in some way or another.

Personally I find a lot of the behavior by some of the korean managers disgusting. When they refuse to pay or take care of one of their own players, and then try to publicly humiliate and bash them, and hurt their careers, simply because another team is willing to legitimately take care of them, it's just despicable. It's one thing to say they wish they would've stayed, it's another to start saying ad hominem attacks to guilt trip a player into staying with a team that refuses to pay them. It's almost abusive how some of these teams refuse to pay or contract a player, and then humiliate them when they try to earn a living elsewhere.
Seriously though, there has been so much SC2 drama recently. People on pro SC2 management teams need to get their acts together and become professionals in the management/business aspects
Im kinda sad about this pickup because slayers has such a hugte team and some of the players (even the really good ones sometimes wont even get to play in the teamleauge thats kinda sad but for slayerst thats great hope that coca can bring some zerg action in our terran team

Well I can see some similaritis: Both coaches were informed and had no problem with it (there was even a Puma farewell party), but both had the need to scream about 'stolen' players and make unnessesary drama.

The owner and the coach are different people, Iit was the owner that whined. Clearly a miss communication between the coach and the owner, hence Jessica so certain she had talked to the team yet the owner still mad. If Jessica did indeed talk to the coach then it is not comparable to eg puma so it does not get the same hate.

You sir are correct. Then again, maybe Jessica didn't approach the right person in order to avoid drama. Anyway, nothing that can't be solved in the future with a contract.
WOW! I am so happy that right away the issue of "how the transfer went down" was ironed out and we were able to get reactions from both the player and his old coach. As well as a response from his new coach/team. ESPORTS improving?
Coca transfered to SlayerS. ZeNEX coach was informed, but didn't communicate the news to a ZeNEX manager before ThisIsGame/PlayXP breaks the news. ZeNEX manager end up butt-hurt and had a public war-of-words with Jessica.
I know its blasphemy and all, but after seeing the way Jessica leads her team and protects them from everything and everyone, I think SlayersBoxer might be the empress in that relationship :-p

Haha yeah good point, the female is the dominant one this time around. I wonder what Cella goes through, being the coach and all.
I wish they had scouted/ grown their own strong zerg instead of just getting one from another team. Good for Coca though, I think he has alot of practise partners to improve his ZvT now.

I think Day9 would be thrilled with that banana-grin. If he was serious about pro-gaming again, maybe he should just stay in the SlayerS house for a while.
I read through a lot of these posts and some of them are very funny, talking about EG messing up E-sports and Jessica having to drop tweets and start suing people. This is quite terrific news SlayerS is now going to have a baller zerg player in their arsenal that will probably be the only one ever to hold off MMA and Boxer's blue flame helion play TvZ.

My guess...The coach didnt involve the owner in the transfer and the owner blew up when he was told.
this is exactly what happens without a governing body like KeSPA. however evil we think they are they do serve a purpose. Player trading without proper legal work can result in some serious shit going down. Teams need to sort out their shit.
It seems like owner of ZeNEX and the coach of ZeNEX are not on good terms, and did not communicate well. That is not at the fault of slayers, it is the fault of the coach for not communicating properly with the owner of the team.
I thought Jessica was deliberately staying out of acting? It seems she just can't stay out of Korean Dramas. [/bad joke]
On topic, if it was agreed to by both coaches with a witness, I think Zenex is just overreacting, but who can blame them when they lost a player like CoCa?

Oh well, its not esports without some sort of drama...
It seems that ZeNEX are trying to make out that SlayerS are the bad guys saying they poached their player, either way it doesn't impact on my enjoyment of watching some awesome games ^^
Zzzz team drama is getting old. SC2 is a career to these players, if another company (team) is willing to offer your employee better wages/conditions/treatment etc then its a reasonable and smart career move for them to accept the offer. Stop fucking crying about teams "stealing" your player, how can you "steal" a player when it was that players choice to leave you for another team, it's not like they kidnapped him, people have free will. Instead maybe look at yourself and your team and figure out why players would want to leave you and try to improve so more don't.
