I'm not gonna say DaSakura is wrong with her own interpretion of her capabilities and limits due to emotion or likewise, doing so would be stupid as she obviously knows herself the best (and I don't know her at all except from what I've read in this thread), BUT I think saying that girls cannot compete generally because of emotion is simply put stupid. There is a lot of really good male gamers out there who have had such problems, be it rage (like what has causen Idra great problems even though his rage isn't half as bad as many others) or nervousness (like Puma in sc:bw), and none is gonna say that because of that no male will ever grow to be very good.
Also, if I was a girl and I read this thread I'd not at all feel like ever getting into progaming, as all people seems to comment on is DaSakuras looks. None is mean or anything (they have no reason to be that), but really I hoped that the discussion on a forum about a game, in a thread about a tournament winner, could be about something else than the tournament winners looks. I don't see GSL threads be infested by loads of people talking about how cute Nestea is.
Meanwhile DaSakura doesn't seem to take any offense (one who did probably wouldn't had stayed into gaming so long) I can definitly imagine girls who have a lesser confidence their looks get discouraged by a such response in this thread. If you imagine the thread about you winning a cup being about how you look when you have bad confidence in your looks, you wont really try/train to win something, will you?
When writing this I feel like a huge fucking white knight trying to ruin all the fun when none is really getting offended, but really threads like these dissapoint me greatly. It's like when I'm reading about women soccer on a newspapers internet site, and 50% of the comments are about who on the team is the hottest. Except here it's 70% of the comments. Fuck me but I was expecting better of teamliquid.
Tossgirl actually has echoed the same statements she makes in her interview.
I believe there was an interview posted here on TeamLiquid where she says that she doesn't have the stamina of her male counterparts to practice the 12+ hours and she takes losses a bit harder and it hinders her practice.
Of course, this is a sample size of 2, so maybe there will be a girl who has the stamina of male pro-gamers to practice just as much etc. etc.
Seo Ji-Soo [Tossgirl]: Being a progamer, it was disappointing for me to lack stamina and emotion control. Since I lack physical stamina, I can't practice for long hours. Then the skill gap becomes bigger, and I start to lose games. I have the desire to win and compete, but I can't control my emotions since I lose all the time. After losing so many games, I become depressed and wonder if this is really worth doing anymore. I have to deal with these emotions myself, so it becomes very difficult at times.

I agree with you, mostly with your third paragraph... But, personnaly, I think I'll never be offensed by this kind of comment... I mean, I just don't give any importance about that. You can trust me, I really have no confidance in myself... About my looks as about my skills. I don't think I'm a hot chix, and I really don't think I'm that good at this game. So, girls shouldn't be ''turn off'' because of this kind of comment.

That's because all men aren't gay. This is just how things are. If the opposite was true and gaming was a girls thing and it was a guy in this article claiming how hard it is to be good at gaming then I'm sure we'd see the same thing. They'd probably comment on his looks because they wouldn't normally comment on other girls looks but when an anomaly comes along you can't help but comment.
Gaming is a guy thing for the most part so it only makes sense we get excited down below when the opposite sex rolls in and actually looks decent. These comments will never stop existing, and we must accept that it will never go away such as porn and trolling on the internet, they will be forever there.
Yay, Quebec girls ftw!! I'm happy you won & represent for us girls!
But I'm saddened to see you think girls can't be as good as boys because of emotions. In the beginning I agree my emotions got the best of me *bronze league cheeses* but it didn't take that long for me to get over it. I don't play many 1s but I think I can stand my own and especially in teams. Imo I'm sure you could get over it if you just put your mind to it: it's not about being a girl, it's about realizing its just a game and yeah you can get mad at times but it just makes winning that more exciting, rewarding & fun. Take it or leave it, it's just my point of view.

I'm not saying the same thing couldn't have happened if the roles where reversed, but it's simply untrue that it will always exsist and that there is no possibility to change it. I for example am neither gay or asexual, but I still would never post about the looks of a girl in such a topic like this, because first of all I think that it's disrespectful (to not seemingly care about the achievement but only the looks of the achiever), aswell as that I think it will alienate girls who do game and thus decrease the likelyness for more girls to start gaming.
I do though agree with you that if girls where more common in gaming, this wouldn't happen, but I also think, as stated previously, that this does decrease the chance that more girls will instead start gaming seriously.
Also, I think this video is a kind of an interesting watch on the subject:
And okay, it might be slightly exaggerated, but not so much.
Either way I feel that this discussion probably should either not take place at all, or be in another thread, because right now I feel like I'm deraling a thread with quite a lot of off-topic.
So to save myself I'm gonna exit with some on topic, saying something that I would have wished would have been the only thing I felt I needed to write on this topic:
Congratulations to the win DaSakura and good luck in the future, I hope that you can overcome your struggles in booth confidence and any others you might have and keep on posting nice results, the female sc2 world do need more highly skilled profiles such as you.
