And I don't mean that in a jerky way, just saying that it sounds very non-competitive to me how she said that.

Girls have every chance they need in eSport, they just need to compete, there's no limiter and being in the minority is not one, if anything it's more likely to get them on a team provided they can compete at any kind of high level. Unfortunately, in the end it's up to them to take the initiative and show that they can compete with their male counterparts, the community is not what's holding them back, in the end it comes down to your performance and women just haven't been showing that they can compete at the highest level. It may be because of the reasons DaSakura listed but quite simply, the top female pro-gamers can't compete with even the lower tier of male pro-gamers right now and the reason isn't because they don't get the opportunity, everyone has the same opportunities once they log in and apply to an open tournament and if anything as we've seen, women can quite easily get picked up by teams even if they don't compare with anyone else on that team skill-wise.

I think it's just that 99% of players are guys so it's hard, statistically, for a girl to overcome that. There isn't anything inherently making girls worse. The "I lost 2 or 3 games so now I have to pout" is not a gender issue, it's a mindset issue. Happens to me too, and happens to a lot of people. Starcraft is a game of the mind, and it takes a tough toll on the mind. Women are no less apt to deal with it. IdrA's main enemy in the game is his own mind, it's not an uncommon thing at the highest level of play. I pretty much agree with this, but I think Starcraft not purely a "game of the mind" as a large part of is not concentrated on strategy, (Macro, Micro, etc). But girls should be able to do this as well as guys can, because after all it doesnt take much physical strength to use a keyboard and a mouse.

Sakura is obviously a very talented player (Love the fact that, as zerg, she said that Idra was "of course" his favorite player btw ! ) I don't understand why you guys blame her for not pushing it harder to GM and international competition, even if she has the skill for it. It looks like everyone is getting confused: Participating (and winning) a pro-event like she did doesn't mean that she consider herself a pro-gamer. (Someone who lives and make money from gaming) If she takes this step or not is none of our concern, and she doesn't have to "represent" the female gaming scene if she doesn't want to. Anyway, i'm pretty sure the rise of female pro gaming scene will come from Korea, i can't wait to see what Slayers_Eve is capable of ! Sakura, you did apologize for your bad english, so i'm curious to know if are you from Quebec? (PS: Watched your stream, noticed you don't hotkey your queen and wasted a lot of time for inject doing it manually. Will be glad to see baneling bomb over protoss deathball in the future ! )

if so , good luck to her if not ... why do i care about some random masters player that doesn't enter normal tournaments ( in other words why would you do a "spotlight"?) winning some women only tournament tells me exactly 0 about her as a player the way interviewing the winner of a "black only" tournament would or of a "muslims only" tournament or "insert any restriction" ect.

I don't play sc to be the female icon at sc or to go at MLG, etc. I play because it's fun. I don't wanna waste all of my time to improve my play, so that's why I told that I think I'm not enough in the game to be as good as ''top players''. I don't wanna be as good as them. I don't wanna make sc of my life. That's all. ^^ By the way, thanks for the support everyone. I'll try to stream often. I'll stream 2s too, just for the lol. @aXa : Yeah, I'm from Quebec, and I started to hotkey my queens. It's soooo easier and sooo faster than manually, hehe.

Excerpt ESL.NyxRose: Considering your own experiences with the Iron Lady tournaments and the Starcraft community, what are your thoughts on being a female gamer in the e-sports industry, in which the majority is made up of men? DaSakura: Personally, I don’t think that girls can be as good as boys in Starcraft. When I lost two or three games in a row, I get mad and I stop playing for like an hour [blushes]. And I saw some girls’ streams and I saw a [bunch] of them getting mad when they lost, so my opinion is that boys will always be better at this kind of game. " Why u so sexist? Seriously if there's one certain thing I dislike more than men being sexist it's women being sexist. I agree with her in most ways but I'd never word it like that and turn it into an impossibility to compete with boys by believing and calling it to be so. I think there's not much room in our culture of expectations for women to sit by a computer day in and day out. The culture part can be beaten by a strong character who thinks higher than what society wants to turn us into. Now then rising above that, could involve the loss of friends and the way you're viewed by people around you. We choose to belong mostly from my experience so the road to that loneliness pro gaming can mean for a girl is probably long.

I mean, like 4-5 person asked to me if I wanted to be in their team, and one of them wanted me just because that I'm a girl, just for the publicity. Furthermore, the other day, I created a thread to say that I'll stream and that I'm high master... Like 400 people clicked on this one, so I made another one and I said in the title that I'm a high master girl, and I had 10k view, just to prove that it's so much easier when we're a girl. (By the way, it's my opinion, it's really ok if you think that girls can be as good or even better than player like Idra if they're in the game like he is. ^^) What I said sounds very non-competitive because I'm not. Pretty much, there's really nothing holding women back from competing at the highest level other than their own skill, sure there are trolls but there are plenty of white-knights as well. Also, we've seen numerous women get seemingly preferential treatment(which you just confirmed) as well so all it comes down to is skill. I don't know for sure if women can't be as good as men at Starcraft, and it would be quite unfortunate if that were the case, since it would just be another item on the long list of competitive avenues where men dominate. But whatever the case may be, it's not a question of opportunity or minority or whatever, it comes down to skill and ability.

XD So does no woman who has played the game so far have the right attitude? Or are we going to blame it on the community? It might very well be the former, but I hope you don't try and blame it on the latter. I look forward to seeing the day when women can compete, but I want it to be on their own merit and I'm not sure if it'll ever be as large a group as it's male counterpart.

Girls have more difficulty to deal with their emotion, it's proved. I don't think that mens are god and they never 'depress' after a losing streak, but they deal easier with this than ME. So I think I'll never be as good as mens pro-gamer, because of that. I know I generalized when I said 'girls' instead of 'me', I'm sorry if that offended suchhhh a major part of you.

Don't get me wrong, I have a girlfriend, a mother, 2 sisters and a sister-in-law, and I love them all dearly, and I have the utmost respect for women in general, but it doesn't really set the right image or tone when they all step in and say they're the best, or always have been really great at the game when we've never even heard of 95% of them before. However I do look forward to seeing the female side of e-sports grow. One day we may see girl vs boy!
