Just going through the NASL finals thread shows the SC2 fanbase is basically made up of children, even MLG got pooped on from a great height after one event had technichal problems. Then the next event was the best ever. How quickly minds change. Uhh, no. People can just like watching SC2. Being a fan doesn't involve having to support a shitty product or "have patience". The reason you may not like that business "excuse" is because that's simply the truth that you have no argument against. And your MLG comparison doesn't hold up. MLG Dallas was 3 days of crap that was fixed in 2 months at Columbus. People HATED MLG after Dallas during those 2 months and doubted Columbus could be good. They don't expect things to improve until they actually do. NASL showed 3 months of crap and being unwilling to make changes and all signs pointing to Season 2 not being much better, especially with the lack of Koreans.

Seriously, I still hope for some kind of happy end in this matter. I know several people who decided to buy a ticket to see the best of the best compete in a league outside of Korea. I hope both parties can still gets their head clear, sit together and work something out.

MLG is a short commitment that doesn't boil over into other commitments when something goes wrong. MLG actively participates with GOM and Korea to set up optimal programs for Koreans and Foreigners alike to attend both GSL and MLG for the betterment of each other and esports. on the other hand NASL repeatedly showed disregard for technical and scheduling difficulties for Koreans NASL is a long term commitment that has already shown itself to conflict with other events including more prestigious ones. NASL (to my knowledge) does not actively participate with GOM and Korea to work out optimal programs for both leagues, at least not to the extent of MLG. Still so disgusted by the Koreans? Because for most of them, it's not worth the 3 months of headache to try and get to Ro16 where they will face mostly Koreans again. Especially since 8 of those players are going to go home with basically nothing. Top 16 get $1000 winnings + $1000 stipend which barely covers travel costs. Only top 8 make more. Going home with nothing (actually less than nothing since the team/sponsors/players have to pay for their own fare) is standard for like 80-90% of pro players going to a tournament. I don't believe the tournament is obligated to pay for players to come there, even the 500 dollar travel stipend they had in season 1 was special compared to most other tournaments. How many koreans have gone to the two MLG so far that didn't have their travel paid by a MLG/GOM or a foreign team? I can only think of Ganzi and Alicia (July got his from CSN, Choya from FXO, the other 8 in pool play from MLG/GOM).

Then the next event was the best ever. How quickly minds change. Judging by your post, you're not much better. People can and will still tune in to NASL, that's not an issue. It's not an issue if they get less viewers either because that's what happens with small, regional, or minor league tournaments. You do however, need to stop pretending that you care about SC2 if you wish to just promote the foreigner leagues and minor leagues in such a way because that will never create parity or close the skill gap. Koreans will still own white dudes in any fair tournament unless white dudes play better. The only way they play better is by more exposure to and play against Koreans which doesn't happen unless leagues like NASL shape up. On August 12 2011 20:18 Big-t wrote: To be honest, i like that. At season 1 it was so boring seeing only the korians ruling all matches. Now the foreigener will have a good chance to win that. I will be wtaching NASL 2 for sure. Lol. Replace "Korians" with "Better players" and see how ridiculous that sounds. They didn't win because they were Korean. They won because they were better. Taking them out won't close the skill gap...it'll only widen it and then it'll just become "Koreans own white dudes" x 2 at the next open lan. That's the problem people are having with the lack of Koreans in NASL. You're taking the best players out which means lower quality of play and lower competition for foreigners to get better against.

Going home with nothing is fine if you didn't put up with 3 months of BS before hand. The stipend is a lot compared to other tournaments because other tournaments don't take up 3 months of your time and (if you're Korean), stack the odds against you. When you're doing NASL, you have to schedule 3 months around NASL so you don't screw up preparation for that and make it back on time for every weekly b/o3. MLG is free because of partnerships with GOM and private partnerships between teams. It's like saying nani/thorz/sjow/sase all get to go to code A for free. The partnerships work both ways. There exists no such partnership for NASL.

The issue with not having enough travel stipend seems pretty simple to me. If the Korean teams cannot afford to send their players to the finals and NASL cannot afford to help pay for the costs then there's no point in the Korean players playing a long and arduous season of matches only to face serious financial difficulties when it comes to the finals. I think this is going to be terrible for the league, and I wish they could work this out.

Get the guys with the most skill and the fans will watch. I don't admire Koreans, or Americans or Swed's. I admire micro and macro.

The deal becomes a lot sweeter if, say, Nestea can enter the Open, get $500 for half his plane ticket, and come stomp face in a 16-person tournament with 10 people who couldn't make the Code A qualifiers. I wonder if the Korean withdrawal also means that players from those teams are banned from participating in the Open.
