[11.08.03] BoxeR, "This is my second peak in Starcraft 2" I gained a lot through being a competitor at MLG Anaheim
"Emperor" Lim Yohwan (Intel) has qualified for Code A.
On August 3rd at the Intel eStadium in the Sindorim Technomart, BoxeR successfully passed through the GSL Season 5 Code A qualifiers which means that he will compete in Code A for the third season running.
How do you feel about getting through the qualifiers and qualifying for Code A?
When I went to American competitions before, I would always feel that my hands had stiffened, but I think that it was actually beneficial this time. My condition was good enough for me [coming back from MLG] to be able to warm up without having to go through hard times.
How have you been able to maintain your condition? What did you do differently from previous events?
I think it's thanks to the sponsors. The sponsors prepared everything so well that I didn't have any problems in maintaining my condition. Razer even upgraded our airplane seats so I was able to travel to and from America very comfortably.
Don't you feel it's a shame to have been knocked out in the MLG semi-finals? [Please see explanation here:]
I was confident of TvP and TvZ but was a little unsure about TvT, and as I had expected TvT became my downfall. But I feel good since I feel that I gained so much about TvP, TvZ and even TvT as a competitor at MLG. Until now, I always ruined matches because I failed to keep myself in good condition after coming back from foreign competitions, but I actually was in good condition after this.
You looked happy even after losing at the MLG semi-final.
It feels great to compete abroad. Fans treat the gamers as heroes. The fans pay up their own money to attend and enjoy the games. I envy that kind of passion. Do you plan to compete in foreign competitions more aggressively in the future?
I want to compete in foreign competitions whenever possible, if it is possible. If there are passionate fans, I would even make my own opportunity to take part in foreign competitions.
Your first opponent in Code A is Leenock. How do you feel about your formidable opponent? I see Leenock as one of the top four Zerg. If I don't want to go back to the qualifiers again, I need to beat him. I will be preparing diligently with that in mind.
Expectations are high for your big show match against YellOw
They say that YellOw has been practicing hard. I will try my very best to show YellOw the charms of StarCraft 2 to convince him to join [in competitive Starcraft 2]. (laughs)
And after the show match, you have to compete in the WCG qualifiers.
Before going to America, the tight schedule did give us a lot of stress. After MLG was the GSL preliminaries, followed immediately by the show match with YellOw and the WCG preliminaries. Thankfully, I gained a lot from MLG and I have found the strength to do well in the remaining scheduled events.
What are your goals for this season?
The first priority is to reach the promotion matches. Right now, I don't aim for victory but for showing as many matches to the fans as I can.
Anything else you would like to add?
I think this is my second peak since switching to Starcraft 2. I feel that my skills have improved recently. I hope that I can show a good standing at matches for the amount effort I put in. I'm looking forward to my Code A matches. I also want to thank Min-Liang Tan, CEO of Razer, for providing the moral and material support to maintain my competitive levels, and Ga-Yeon [Jessica] for following me even to America to look after me. Anaheim Convention Center is the coldest place that I have ever competed in. She packed parkas so that I could stay in top condition and she even brought Korean food to cook in case the food didn't agree with me, and all the players were able to enjoy tasty meals.

Nice interview, thanks! he should let yellow win so yellow can be like "i should switch to sc2"
|
Very good interview! Always rooting for the Emperor!
|
nice interview, go boxer.
|
Amazing interview. I love BoxeR sooooo much. I hope he has great success in SC2, and good luck vs. Yellow! Thanks for bringing this to us.
|
|
Woo, great interview! Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait for Yellow vs Boxer today.
|
The Emperor! I really hope he does well going forward...either way, he will always have our support.
Go Boxer!
|
He has a great wife .
BoxeR fighting!

Always cheering for the Emperor!
|
Boxer bro such a baller~ :D
|
I love this quote
"It feels great to compete abroad. Fans treat the gamers as heroes. The fans pay up their own money to attend and enjoy the games. I envy that kind of passion."
So true, but Boxer IS a hero :D
|
|
I was wondering if he was cold, he always looked so chilly up on stage and wore that parka 24/7
Also this quote:
The first priority is to reach the promotion matches. Right now, I don't aim for victory but for showing as many matches to the fans as I can.
This is why I love BoxeR. His attitude about playing is very genuine.
|
Glad boxer mentioned how cold it is to compete at MLG, I hope they take notice of that and change it in future events. Really glad that he has gained a lot of confidence though, I can't wait to see him at more events!
|
Emperor fighting! I really have so much respect for this man.
|
Awesome. I love reading Boxer interviews. He is top class.
|
Wow, props to razer for that O.O !
|
|
She packed parkas so that I could stay in top condition and she even brought Korean food to cook in case the food didn't agree with me, and all the players were able to enjoy tasty meals.
Sounds like my mom haha

Boxer is just a superior human beeing.
|
I would love to see him playing for Korea in the WCG :D Good luck Boxer !

Boxer to win first SC2 WCG would be awesome.

'Cute' interview. So glad Boxer qualified for Code A, but now he has to hopefully beat Leenock. Best of luck to him!

Debatable who's next among Leenock, July, Zenio, Coco.

Goodluck to boxer i feel its important for the sc2 scene that he does well
|
Boxer does have all of it that is required and what make it possible to be champion. Boxer has talent, strong experience of everything and aspiration to still play starcraft for living and clearly has the endurance to play regardless of not so good results.
I have no reason to think why boxer could not start his new bonjwa-era.
|
Stories like this make me glad I just finished buying $200 of razer gear. I love this mechanical keyboard (blackwidow).
Also, the passion of Boxer and Jessica and all of SlayerS inspires us all. I am no exception.

Great to see Boxer with confidence (as deserved)! Lim Yo-Hwan fighting~

Boxer fighting ! I kinda like both boxer and leenock, but it will be great match none the less. : )

According to milkis she didn't only brought food to cook, but she actually cooked the food! And that already on the second day they were in the states! :o

Boxer awesome and badass as always.

Thanks for the translation oniontaker! If you ever get the chance please ask him about his time when he shot that interview with SNSD =D

What about Line? He had an impressive SuperTournament run. Too bad he failed to qualify for Code A though, but that also happened to DRG.
|
Boxer is my hero, i really think his play has been inspiring recently. He looked so happy after making it deep in MLG it was touching.
Cant wait to see him finally crush code a, his condition right now seems to be at least of code a caliber recently, i hope to see him in code s though ^^

great interview, very interesting answers to some pretty standard questions. Ty for translating oniontaker!
|
Awesome to hear, that he will compete in WCG. He hasn't done this for a long time in broodwar due to his conflict with WCG back in the days.
|
It feels great to compete abroad. Fans treat the gamers as heroes. The fans pay up their own money to attend and enjoy the games. I envy that kind of passion.
That comment alone, makes him a hero.

C'mon Boxer, just 2 rax proxy Yellow two times in a row (^_^) ez pz!
Then tell him about how bunkers cost almost nothing and how dropships have been combined with medics. I'm sure he'll join SC2

It's actually very good event planning. When you do cross-culture competition, food can be a big thing, as you need food you know will sit well with you.
But, yeah, SlayerS_Jessica knows how to prepare for events.
|
Leenock top 4 Zerg, that's the truth. But he has the worst luck of all. I am so confuse who to root for (
|
Slayers_Jessica is such a dream wife. Cook for you and support your career in any possible way.
|
Boxer is an absolutely lucky man Boxer all the way, get to Code S Emperor
|
Fantastic interview, best of luck to him against Leenock!
|
He was right. When I think of MLG, I think of SlayerS.
|
Interesting that the CEO of Razer provides moral support haha. Unless that's just generically and not personally.
|
|
It is amazing how the interview is basically boring, standard questions but Boxer answers them with overwhelming passion.
|
You guys should tweet @minliangtan (Razer CEO) and thank him for the support he provided to Boxer and SlayerS!!

Great interview. Just too bad leenock and boxer is 1st round.

Boxer is a hero and he put on one helluva show at MLG. Even when he was far behind in his matches he was still playing it out and almost won.

Don't you feel it's a shame to have been knocked out in the MLG semi-finals?
I'm sorry, but it seems quite harsh. I mean, there must be tremendous expectations for anyone to be asked if he's ashamed to have gone "only" to the semi-finals.
Apart from Nestea, I think anyone can be proud to go reach the semifinals (even MC/MVP) of such a big event.
Nevertheless, it was a very very very good interview! Love you BoxeR!
|
Big shoutout to Razer !!! They should be an exemple to all other sponsors. Very nice implication that turned to be crucial. Can't wait for the Boxer vs Yellow show match :D

It's the second coming of Boxer!

I think what they probably meant was getting knocked out and not getting a Code S spot, but without making it sound like they wanted to know if Boxer thought he deserved it more than MMA.

Is TIG translations ok again?
edit: or perhaps it was fomos that was the problem.
Anyway, Boxer fighting!

Yeah Boxer you're a hero. The one and only true legend playing SC2. I dislike watching Terrans usually but when it's a Boxer match, i always tune in to root for him.
Keep going.

Nice interview! Boxer fighting!

|
Yea boxer! Beat Yellow then take down Code A. I believe
|
I love Boxer. Always the professional. And so eloquent in interviews.
|
Always good to hear from BoxeR himself. Good on him for improving.
|
I really hope that Boxer can get to Code S. He deserves it.
|
I love you Boxer<3. I hope he does well

Nice that he's playing well, and even nicer that he is confident.

What a guy, I'm stoked that Boxer is doing better now. He's one of my favourite Korean pros. I'll definitely check out his code A matches and the showmatch with YellOw.

BoxeR deserves it. He's such a genuine guy and I can only wish him the best. Also props to Razer and Jessica for always sticking close to BoxeR and their endless support

MLG anaheim was FREEZING inside. Funny BoxeR felt the same way.

Man I love BoxeR !
Also <3 Razor for really taking these people seriously, that's pretty damned awesome and shows marketing intellect AND atleast some degree of dignity, they got my vote !
|
The Emperor Fighting!!!
Go Boxer!!
|
SlayerS_YellOw, please BoxeR do it!!!
Great interview, BoxeR is definitely on the rise once again. For a while there he looked very shaky and it seemed that he wouldn't become a top class SC2 pro. But in the last month or two he's improved so much, it's amazing to watch him play now! In another season or two, don't be surprised to see BoxeR in his first GSL finals.
|
Second coming of the emperor :D
Leenock is top 4 zerg heard it from BoxeR first!

Boxer!!!!!! I love the Starcraft family he has formed in the SlayerS Team.
Living Legend right here guys!!!!!!

Did anyone go to Anahien? was it really that cold in there or were the Koreans just not aclimatized yet to Cali?

Korea is colder than California. Though some places here overdo it with their A/C.
Interesting that Jessica packed some Korean food for the trip. Milkis must've not shown them the hundreds of Korean restaurants and stores nearby. Tsk. Tsk. =P

He doesn't live there so he has no way of knowing. Besides, Jessica probably responding to the experience of MMA from Columbus.

Honestly the first time I went inside the convention center it was very cold, they had the AC on full blast. But after about an hour you honestly don't notice it, a lot of people were comfortable in jeans and t-shirts.
It did rain one day if I remember correctly
|
thank you for the interview! wow, jessica is a phenomenal woman. holy moly.
|
So nice to hear his praise of the foreign fans! I guess we've deserved it xD
|
Oh Boxer <3 SlayerS_Yellow incoming plox!!! <3

I hope he can beat Leenock.
Poor Leenock, forever in Code A.
|
Such an handsome guy. You can't not love him.
|
BoxeR fighting! i love leenock but i have to love boxer more! make it to the promotion matches boxer! LIM YO HWAN, LIM YO HWAN!
and yes it was freezing in the anaheim convention center =P

GOGO Boxer, Smash Leenock and get back int Code S!!

I am interested why the word peak is used. That indicates that Boxer wont get better and skills will begin to fall. Is this a translation error or does he think he's has reached the maximum extent of his ability?

I was thinking the first peak was a different mountian like brood war in the early 2000s. I'm glad I was wrong and he is cofident that he'll keep owning. He is an inspiration of how skilled you can get in starcraft regardless of age which I am thankful for because I feel too old at 25 :S

Im so glad to be able to be a fan of Boxer in SC2 also and these interviews are exactly why. Such class and spirit. I really hope he makes the promotion matches!
|
Jessica is awesome. Glad to see boxer and his team have such a strong support network.
|
I wish they'd ask him about MMA in interviews!
|
I think its a really cute touch that both Boxer and MMA talked about bringing Korean food with them. I guess our food is too chunky? Too simple? Who knows.
Boxer comes off as a gentleman, as per usual.

Reading anything about Boxer never gets old.

wut, Anaheim was hella hot with thousands of ppl surrounding him and LA last weekend always around 90+ degrees. May be Korean is a bit warmer right now.

This might just be a language thing. Your country says France, so maybe you haven't heard it used this way because it's kind of colloquial, but when most people say "it's a shame" they don't mean that you should be ashamed literally, just that it's regrettable.
Like "It's a shame, I was sick so I couldn't come to the tournament" doesn't mean I'm actually ashamed or anything.
