How has this thread devolved into people making blatant insults towards the players like Machine, Lz and StrifeCro? I can't imagine how anyone can think we make any better comments than the netizens we often look down upon.

Yeah EG is doing bad, idra isn't. One player doesn't make a team!

But i mean several teams have only one player perform, what liquid player has done anything (recently) besides HuK? what oGs player besides MC. The list goes on...stop just hating on EG cause it makes you sound stupid

Jinro won MLG Dallas and made Code S ro4 twice, Ret won Assembly.
oGsTOP won code A, oGsInca code S finals, to name a few.

This is like the FXO thing all over again. People got mad because they thought FXO bought fOu... when in reality, fOu came to FXO. So how do we know that Puma didn't got to EG and told them what he wanted to? What if there were previous talks with Puma before hand when Incontrol was Korea, or when Tasteless was still captain (or whatever he was) for EG?

There's so much we don't know, yet people keep claiming that Puma or EG are this or that. It's blowing my god damn mind.

No one was mad. The OP clearly stated that Choya came to FXO management. This is a different story.

Such a stupid response from scoots.. Really? We are only going off what we have, what more facts can we check? lmfao.. how about you give us some instead of sitting on your high-horse and thinking of anyway you can justify this horrible display of ethics and lack of respect..

No response at all would be much more professional than this trash..

you can wait to make an irrational emotion fueled post until we have more facts.

or you can spew your nonsense like you just did.

How long are we suppose to wait? We have plenty of facts right here (Puma on TSL -> Puma NASL -> Puma released -> Puma EG), and you want us to just sit here while scoots/EG make up a nice little fairytale? He just took a jab at the whole community, without clarifying anything at all..

God forbid we wait more than an hour and a half (with the story breaking at 11:00PM PDT) for the other half of the story, WE HAVE FACTS!!!!

The problem is that time is actually of the essence in a situation like this. If EG takes too long to come out with the announcement, people are going to infer that they spent that extra time trying to tailor a nicer story than perhaps what the actual truth might be. EG management should know EXACTLY what happened, and, seriously, it doesn't take long to type up a couple paragraphs that would clarify everything. Certainly, it wouldn't take an hour. Half an hour, tops, if they really wanted to just clarify everything cleanly.

I would definitely shave off a few hours of sleep if the biggest ESPORTS community in the western world was half slandering, half defending my team.

honestly that's the biggest issue to me after all the recent drama.

perhaps the foreigner SC2 tournaments are simply greener pastures than the idiotically top heavy GSL structure that forces you through the no prize Code A tournament and up/down matches.

this is SC2, a game that's been out for about a year. it has no guaranteed future and no long-standing history. it's booming right now in the US and Europe, so why not take advantage of that and go where the easy money is now?

maybe the issue is that the GSL needs to shape up or ship out.

Good for Puma and EG. If both sides benefit from this then there is nothing wrong. Korean culture, blah blah blah, they need to understand this is a GLOBAL game. Their culture and high moral standards are not the norm for the rest of the world and you either sign your players to legally binding contracts or expect them to get better, more lucrative offers and gladly accept them.

Anyone saying what Puma did here is wrong is delusional.

Scenario A: Puma stays with TSL, has to bank his ENTIRE sc2 tournament winnings on ONE tournament, and rarely leaves Korea for international tournaments. We'll assume hes getting paid, but obviously less than he would with EG.

Scenario B: Puma joins EG, gains a higher salary, and travels all over the world to multiple events while gaining notoriety and more opportunities for cash prizes.

Yea.... I'd like to see how many people take Scenario A.

Lol it's more than just Korean culture...you poach someone's players anywhere and I call it pretty fucking shady. You're also assuming he wasn't under a contract, whereas that's far from confirmed.

Smart move by Puma. Foreign tourneys are where the money is at, and they aren't as unforgiving as GSL's system.

Only downside is that the quality in practice partners just dropped dramatically for him.

If TSL and other Korean teams NEED something in place to prevent this... then put it in their contracts... Otherwise theres nothing preventing another team from approaching them..

Basically, what EG just did is something like this:

Your family allows you to go over to your friend's house for the weekends. On Sunday, your friend's parents offer you to stay at their house instead of your house, and in return gives you much more allowance than your parents give and some other benefits. Well, you take this offer, and you get home, pack your things and tell your parents you are not staying with them anymore. How exactly would your parents feel?

First of all, in business, it's ethical to approach the group instead of the individual belonging to the group if you intend to bring him over to your side.
Secondly, TSL pays their players, so obviously there has to be a certain contract.

IMO, this is quite detrimental for the relationship between Koreans and Foreigners. As someone earlier in this thread has already mentioned, Korean teams might be afraid to send their best players overseas to compete in fear of losing them.

This is one of the biggest stretches of an analogy ever. I think people lose sight of the fact that korean pros (a large majority of them) are over worked and underpayed. Puma isn't some kid who gets allowance as a bonus, he is trying to make a living. This means that he want's this to support him once hes too old to play. And you are speculating that he was getting payed, there is no proof to support it.

I'm not sure if I understand the korean team managers at all sometimes.
If you have a badass player, you are supposed to hang on to them not cry after someone gives them the salary/chance/respect they deserve and takes them away from you. Yes, you lost a player you raised and hoped to achieve a lot with as a team in the future....time to learn from this mistake.

If EG could just snatch Puma like that, and legally, then there is a problem in TSL's contracts with the players. You can't expect EG to go through TSL management, if there is nothing legally binding them to it.

This thread grows so fast. I better make it quick or I'll be wasting time!

Very wierd, think I'm more sad than happy. Say Puma comes over to live in the EG house that seems like the most awkard thing ever. And a big part of getting good practice in Korea is the ladder is stacked and everyone in your house is 10x better than you. You miss all those, what I think are key elements, in the EG house. So while I'm sure Puma will transfer some of his skill, I'm worried he will deteriorate and the other EG players make themselves depend on him to get better rather than themselves.

This is of course very negative but it's a weird situation and I think many details have been omitted, which has to get cleared up first before the talk about numerous aspects can continue.
I do think SirScoots has done it in an acceptable way. That the Coach wasn't contacted seems like a fact, but I suspect Scoots will say it's not him but the player who has a contract with the Coach and therefore it's Puma's problem.
It could also be Coach Lee is meta trading (jay kay). By sending out a bit false and skewed news with a lot of his thoughts into it, it creates this attention to something he has been seeing as an upcoming problem, and hope it will help to handle those things (foreign player trades)for the future.

I saw Coach Lee in the Hyun Joon becomes a progamer series and thought he was really awesome. With all players recently leaving TSL, I can't help but be anxious almost as if there is something we just don't know about that's bad. I really hope not.

Do you guys really think EG stole him? does that even make sense?

EG made an offer and TSL couldnt match it. TSL is falling apart, they lost 4 of their top players, all within a few weeks. Rain, Trickster, FD, and now Puma. Something is wrong and dysfunctional with that team and I wouldn't be surprised if they disband soon.

This.

SC2 community can be really funny sometimes. Any piece of news can be turned into a recipe for disaster and apocalypse. Remember "YOU'RE RUINING ESPORTS!!11" thing?

TSL has already been losing blood. EG made an offer to Puma that he can't refuse, Puma accepted, end of story. Who cares what some Koreans think about it?

I'm happy for EG, Puma will really add to the team a lot.

Will try not to form an opinion until EG has said somethign about this. It's in the middle of the night in America.
Still, I think the problem here is one of cultural differences. Koreans value loyalty to elders and your nation pretty highly. America is much more individualist, I can see how it would make sense for EG to approach the player directly instead of his team. He can make his own decisions after all.

Bad form to do it while he's still in a tournament, though. Anyway, gl to EG.PuMa, glad he's not in my GSTL roster :D
