If teams wish to keep their players, then write a contract. The player gets room, board, a modest salary possibly in exchange for 6 months to a year of loyalty.

Problem with this is that a contract won't help if your player wants to leave. Sure you can keep him and keep paying his salary but he won't perform to his normal level. That's also probably the reason TSL straight out decided to release him from his contract.

Let me fill you in on Koreans.

Koreans have a level of kinship deeper than westerners. If you get together as a team, you will become very close. The coach is a father figure and he wanted what would make Puma happy. If Puma wanted to go and join another team then the coach would let him.

This doesn't change the fact that EG is a complete joke of a team who didn't respect TSL as a team, didn't respect SC2 as a sport, didn't respect the Korean culture and they certainly don't respect Puma.

The worst part is Puma had such a bright future ahead of him too.

lol my korean genes are kicking in for the whole respect thing ==;;

Thats certainly respectable. Team SHOULD be close.

But if Puma left so easily, one could say that he lacks respect. BUT if the team is really supposed to be a family environment and the coach is supposed to be the dad, what does it say about the environment and the "dad" if theyve lost 4 of their most successful players in a matter of weeks?

So that makes it ok for EG to go behind players backs? there's still a mangement structure there and polite protocols to go through regardless of the state of TSL.

The point is that there is no management structure.

So who is this manager person that released a statement?

Someone who doesnt have control of his own team.

Ive read some of your comments, I respect your perspective. You feel like this deal with down with a lack of respect on EGs part.

My perspective is this:

-TSL appears to be a dysfunctional team based on them losing 4 of their top players within a matter of weeks.
-If puma was really enjoying his time with TSL, he wouldnt have left so abruptly.
-EG doesnt need to respect TSL by contacting them first. The only way I see a problem here is if Puma had a legally binding contract with TSL that he chose to ignore.

So here's my take on it so far.

Grats to Puma. Obviously EG offered something that he was wanting that he was not able to get from TSL. It was all his choice.

So what if TSL had no plans/funds to fly Puma around the world to go to global tournaments? If Puma was stuck in an only 'GSL 4 life' environment I don't blame him. Yes the korea sceene has the best/top skilled players...but you can't say that korea has the best/top scene for Starcraft2. Prizemoney, events, opportunities are much better in SC2 in the rest of the world than within Korea.

Don't have an opinion much either way...but doesn't it seem less likely that SK teams will want to send their players to foreign tournaments if there is a fear they will be poached?

Well that's all fine and dandy, can we get some facts then? How about a statement from team EG?

What, you expect a statement the exact second that TSL's coach blows it up? Give them time and surely EG will give one, they haven't dodged anything controversial in the past.

Well why should they wait? It only opens up speculations as to what REALLY happened...
It seems like a really impulsive move otherwise, by all rights they should have had a statement ready as soon as puma was considering the possibility of jumping ships.

There's just no excuse.

Fruitdealer, Rain, Tester and Puma all suddenly leaving TSL. Fruitdealer, Rain and Tester due to their new direction / leadership and Puma without even talking to the coach before hand, wonder what the hell is going on over there.

Fruitdealer / Tester are just lazy and don't want to follow practice schedules, rain got into code s by all -ining, and practically doesn't make it past the first round of code s (going to foreign scene for ez mode, but in his interview it seemed like he was already on planning on moving to the U.S), Puma left because he is a sell out

Doesn't change the fact that four of their top players have all suddenly jumped ship, blame the players all you want it still doesn't change the fact that there is clearly some issues between the coach and the players.

great. he spends his time making a tweet instead of attempting to clarify the situation.

They wouldn't go without a press release about their biggest signing since Idra. The TSL coach had a teary and we became aware of the situation obviously before EG was ready to announce it. EG will release details soon I'm sure.

Such a stupid response from scoots.. Really? We are only going off what we have, what more facts can we check? lmfao.. how about you give us some instead of sitting on your high-horse and thinking of anyway you can justify this horrible display of ethics and lack of respect..

No response at all would be much more professional than this trash..

you can wait to make an irrational emotion fueled post until we have more facts.

or you can spew your nonsense like you just did.

If I was a Korean player right now, I'd be highly interested in all the deals that MC, Rain, Puma, NaDa are making with foreign teams. And would likely be pretty frustrated if my team was too scared about poaching to send me out to foreign events should I wish to go.

It's not just about the teams here. The players are individuals with goals and cares that should be respected as well.

great. he spends his time making a tweet instead of attempting to clarify the situation.

You think that writing a sentence took that much time away from him?

Points towards the fact that he is just talking garbage, if there actually was anything to clarify he would have said so, rather than hinting that there is more to the story than meets the eye.. He was better off staying silent until he got his story straight and made a statement..

We still don't know all the facts, but going through all the possibilities, the only scenario where I could lose respect for an entity is if Puma was still under BINDING contract with TSL and basically forced himself to be released.

(BINDING contract, because there are plenty of contracts with "at-will" termination from both sides - meaning the contract is there to state agreed-upon terms, but either side can cancel at any time.)

We don't know that and it probably wasn't, Lee is implying he was under contract and agreed to grant his wish to leave. Great way to waste your first post.

Whatever happened to "home grown" teams? Isn't EG supposed to be like "America's team"? This is really really sad to me. FXO I can understand, since the fOu guys have like no money, and they are friends with the FXO guys, but this is really weird. They just buy off puma since they have so much money.

He's only pointing out that people shouldn't jump to conclusions until having got the story from both sides. Yours and posts like yours are more face-palm-worthy than his.
