I think she's just making an example so it's clear and out there where the line between ok and not-ok is - trying to be preventive I suppose with the first weird cases she can find. Seeing how it already got some media attention, we won't hear anything the-like for the next year at least... Part of the hype, even though the unpleasant one: saving private Eve.

lol I can see it now
"What you in for?"
"trollin' ....."
I think she is overreacting by a long shot, sounds like a typical woman
|
Oh my, barring the AV pictures and any death threats etc, this is not overreacting, this is completely freaking out imo. Involving people with the police because someone criticized her English? It would've been fun if f. ex KellyMilkies reported all the TL members that criticized her dialect which I find more offensive anyway. Hators' gonna hate. =(

It was always a problem for Asian cultures to transition into modern world. Yes, Jessica clearly represents the entirety of Korea and Asia. I mean, why has she not been elected as the president of Asia yet is beyond me.
|
If Tablo (member of Epik High) can win his case against the Korean netizens, who thought that he lied about graduating from Stanford, then so can Jessica. Her claim on the Twitter convo is overboard, if the former fan is telling the truth. As for the photoshopped pictures and attacks on her and Eve, that is a different story.
|
Is Eve seriously in gold?
o.O
|
Fighting over twitter publicly is just as childish as those people who insult/flame Counter-flaming because you are mad = stupid Reporting to the po-po with "evidence" will probably do more harm to her/affiliates than good
I guess her intentions and her sense of standing up for her self/affiliates are very strong, but I honestly don't feel it's gonna do any good in the end.
In regards to the OP's questions
1. Is it wise to take Internet matters to the police? - In certain cases yes. Many celebs/known people have sued netizens for slander seemingly the charges are pretty serious and actually get litigated. However, most of the time the slander is pretty extreme (ex. people going out of their way to create hate groups to defame the target)
2. Is Jessica over reacting? ( Actively searching twitter and forums for any evidence ) - Yes. Can't police the internet and people are free to comment/discuss/express their opinions. If she honestly thinks that she can go around looking for any "evidence" of people hating on her/affiliates then she is just dumb and needs to make better use of her time. Especially at DC lol.
- Btw, her judgement is clouded by her emotions and by taking a quick glimpse of her tweets and whatnot she is too emotional and can't rationalize for shit lol.

This is why she should get police involved. Everyone else thinks it is just blanket random comments. Its a crappy photoshop, i don't see the issue here. Yes it sucks to get made fun of, but its the internet, take everything with a grain of salt. Lets personalize this situation then. Lets say that Eve is your sister. You still going to say "yo sis, take everything with a grain of salt"? I'd bet not. Jessica personally recruited Eve and therefore, probably feels responsible for a lot of the hate. The attacks at Eve also, to a lesser degree, are an attack at Jessica. Yes, i still feel the same way. my take is still, its the internet, get over it. best way to stop the trolls is to leave them alone/not paying attention to them.
Do those comments / photos seem like just "trolls"? Then where's the line between troll posts and harassment?

This is harassment, and a fairly personal attack on a person.

I think she may have overreacted this time, but she always gets a lot of shit from so called "fans".

I'd assume if it's slander/defamation or something that can stand in the court of law?

I meant my post to be a joke, and i hardly doubt this is trolling. Like many others, it resembles more like harassment.

Is there a law against having a different opinion and expressing it in Korea? This is silly to the extreme.
If you place yourself in the publics view you need to grow some damned thick skin or give up on fame. Some people are always going to hate you no matter who you are.
|
I agree with her, some of these images and comments can be counted as sexual harassment, how is it different on the internet I don't understand, I'm sure 99% of these people wouldn't do such thing to others irl, why would they have to on the interweb to someone they dont know at all.
Just think what impact potentially it will have to her in real life.
Maybe you, and all your friends don't care about these harassment jokes, but that does not represent everyone out there, not everyone take these kind of stuff lightly remember.
Also about the "bad english insult" I'm sure the police can tell the seriousness of each comment indivdually.

You need to realise that shit has gotten real over internet flaming before in Korea. People have killed themselves because the ostracizing spilled over into their lives. Korean netizen culture can be a really harsh one. There is a thread around here somewhere that explains all these matters pretty well, but I can't seem to find it. I think it had something to do with Flash's (?) twitter being shutdown.
|
I like this aspect of the Korean culture: shit isn't tolerated, in real life or over the Internet. I wish the rest of the world had a cyber police organizational type of thing to deter keyboard warriors who talk shit just because they cannot get in trouble for it. Treating the Internet like real-life could lead to miraculous things for it if done properly.
I know that I'd definently take some ass that says they'll do stuff equivalent of what Jessica has received of Eve to court if they'd say that to my face. What difference should it make if it's over the Internet, especially if you have a Cyber Police service to use that deals with this specific stuff. I think Jessica is not over-reacting, and I hope the people who are responsible for the amount of hatred and sexism are dealt with accordingly. It's not doing anyone a favor.
