I think she made a right decision. You said she got countless insulting posts including verbally abusing her sexually, and if in Korea, you can report someone to the police for what they had said on the internet, then why not report them. I mean, she's a fiancee of The Emperor Boxer and a manager of a well known team, you can't just insult the soon-to-be Empress like that man... Have some decency and respect. During old China times, your head would have been decapitated if you dare to touch The Empress, let alone insulting her.

that picture is kinda offending and korean culture is as different as it gets. i am not involved so i giggled bout the picture but as someone involved i can see that this makes them upset.
the screenshot with all the paper surely wasnt all bout that one picture so i guess it is some overreacting too, but when u r on tilt u r unstoppable =)

Screenshots as criminal evidence? I think Jessica's lost the plot.

It is what I was saying before. Some of them might warrant action, but when you take a hundred posts and stomp around the internet and fighting in twitter what really started it and is unacceptable is lost.
thats why they are handed over to the police wihich will sort out the ones which are "fine" and the ones wich are against the law.
|
dude,. I'd rather make her overreact on this shit and bring this matter to the police than go depress don't do anything and kill herself because of what the netizens think... good for her for standing up against this dumbasses.
|
That article is horrible, sure she received pages of misogynistic bile and harassment from the korean equivalent of 4chan, but think of the real victims
I seriously doubt all the harassment she received came from innocent 16 year old girls.
|
She's free to take whatever she wants to the police, but she shouldn't be disappointed when they inevitably do nothing.

No it doesn't make it acceptable just because you feel you can validate this by making up some stupid excuse over something else.

I think you missed my point. Posts like that are not acceptable. However Jessica has gone too broad with her crusade and too petty. So the real problem and issue is lost. Think of it like this. If I'm trying to show that rape isn't acceptable. I do not start a campaign against rape and end up yelling at people who jaywalk.
Edit: Baarn: I don't think you comprehended what I wrote and as such I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Korea has had several incidents of internet mobbing playing a part in leading people to commit suicide.
Just as a background on why Korea has this 'Cyber police'.

He never actually sued the guy, never filed a case against him. Coach Lee just threatened to do so on twitter.

I don't know if she realizes that there's definitely bound to be haters, and the internet gives them a sense of security to hateon/troll whoever or whatever they want. Not everyone is gonna support SlayerS'. But when you have the really messed up stuff like the pic above with eve's face, I guess that's crossing the line enough to report to the police, at least in South Korea.
It may not seem like it, but SK is more wired than America, and they have a higher ratio of homes with computers and internet and homes without (well, I know the first part of that sentence is true. Take my facts with a grain of salt). KR netizens can be as vicious as us north americans, even moreso.
Did anyone see that korean program where Boxer and Gayeon appeared on a TV talkshow? Boxer said that he got so many hate comments back then that he cried reading them once(someone gave him a nickname online: "Lim jong-il". heheh, get it?). After a while, I'm guessing he ignores all of it. Hopefully Jessica learns the same lesson soon, because this could hurt SlayerS's reputation and her reputation.

Lets personalize this situation then. Lets say that Eve is your sister. You still going to say "yo sis, take everything with a grain of salt"? I'd bet not.
Jessica personally recruited Eve and therefore, probably feels responsible for a lot of the hate. The attacks at Eve also, to a lesser degree, are an attack at Jessica.

Im very much an eye-for-an-eye type of person, and do feel that Freedom of Speech has grown into too much abuse for things like this to go any further.
I support SlayerS_Jessica on this. It wont change the world, but will change the attitudes of anyone who ends up getting busted by the police, thinking they can just get away with this.
"Haters gonna hate" doesn't help anybody. At least this way there will be at least 1 person who learns their lesson and keeps their shit off the internet.

Its somehow funny to see how Koreans cannot transition from verbal/real communication to internet. They will get it sooner or later(probably later)
It was always a problem for Asian cultures to transition into modern world.
And i am saying about both parties.
