I don't know all that much about Slayers_Jessica, but everything I've learnt about her in the past has made me perceive her as a good, wise and kind person. Whatever is happening right now must have a reason and a good one at that.

1. Leave her alone
2. She needs to not feed the trolls
3. The Internet is a public domain, things are going to be said that you don't like and you're going to have to deal with it

People don't like change too much. Things will calm down in a week or 2 (max)
I remember when they replaced a host on my favourite games review show. It was a girl and everyone was annoyed and flamed all over the forums and then after a few episodes things began to die down and now no one really has a problem with her now and she's pretty damn cool

When I wrote the first line I was originally planning on saying something a lot harsher. How can you expect to survive in SC2 if you don't have at least a moderately tough skin? Every single progamer gets trolls insulting them, but now suddenly Eve and Jessica are exempt from this and are gonna run and cry to the police because they're female? Pffffffff, right, here's an idea, if you want to play with the big boys then learn to deal with the problems like the big boys.

She is probably acting like that because 'Slayers' eve is a new addition to the team and also new to the progaming business. KKY lashing out is an instinct of her being the responsible woman she is. She is trying to protect Eve who may not be used to such aggression directed to her from people on the internet. Just my 2 cents.

BeeNu - the huge difference that you forgot to mention is that those insulted progamers you pointed out were never attacked because of their gender. It is disgusting and should not be tolerated.

Yeah apparently you're sexist. That's your right.

As some other people said, this kind of thing can be totally illegal in Korea. Can you blame Jessica for following the laws EVEN if it's overreacting?

Maybe that's true, but that doesn't mean it should be true. I don't like the defeatist attitude of 'oh people are trolls on the internet and always will be', because guess what, this is our community, and each person is a part of that community. Don't you want it to be the best community that it can be? That's why the mods work so hard.
In real life things like this would not be tolerated. Sexual harassment is on a whole different level than Incontrol or Idra calling someone out (even though that's still dumb).

No, you're wrong, it's no different. She doesn't get attacked "because" of her gender, trolls just use her gender because it's a thing to use. If male gamers were the minority then trolls would pick on male gamers for being male. Trolls just pick up on any little thing they possibly can whether you're male or female, it's the same in the end. They'll pick on you if you're skinny, if you're fat, if you're asian, white, whatever they can possibly use. The point I'm trying to make is that Jessica seems to act like she should be given special treatment about this and nobody can say anything bad about her when in reality the world doesn't work that way and I can't take her seriously at all when her view of the world is so very very narrow and ignorant.

There are also cultural differences here that make it hard for us to judge.

Free speech is free political speech. Even USA has laws against speech. Defamation, liable, sexual harassment, religious harassment, fraud by inducement, fraud by ommission, etc. (I learned last two in my business law class) EU has plenty of laws as well. It's not a carte blanche to say anything you want. Don't pretend otherwise.

You want to give us your photo? Let us photoshop a bit and post it around the area you live and work, because you wouldn't mind right?

I thought they were posting on an message board called DCInside? If they did post photos of Eve around her home then that is definitely wrong.

The idea is similar, it might be okay for us to have our photoshoped photo floating around the internet, but that is because we won't be famous enough to be recognized and assocaited with the photo.

Just imagine your family, friends and coworker found homosexual content with your face on it, it would be horrible.

Embarrassing yes, but that is part of what happens on the internet, people may find a picture on the internet and do whatever they want with it because that is anonymity of internet. I certainly wouldn't like it if someone did do that, but what I wouldn't track those people down and send them to jail because they sexually harassed me. I don't know their motives, I don't know if they do it for fun or are doing it out of jest, and I shouldn't care if they did it out of malice. People on the internet aren't the same people they are in real life, keyboard warriors like me exist everywhere, but to jail people in real life because they were being huge jackasses? That is a step too far.

so you're saying that you are just not a sensitive 16 years old girl who just stepped into the world of esport as the first female sc2 progamer?

If I was a sensitive 16 year old girl that turned into a female programer (definitely not the first female sc2 programer I would think?), I wouldn't be going on message boards looking for hate threads about me. I'd be training hard and getting better at sc2 so I can prove that sensitive 16 year old female progamers can play at the highest level.

Pretty sure she is the first female sc2 programmer. At least the first female (sc2) programmer in Korea. Ignoring the hate doesn't make it disappear

So not only can females not be progamers, but they're not programmers either?!

joking, but seriously, people need to stop confusing those two words

This just in: You can be held liable for whatever racist, bigot or sexist thing you say in real life to another human being.

What a shame if that could ever happen on our beloved internet.

Don't ask me that. I absolutely hate people who hide behind laws that I view as wrong and unjust, this law would be an example of that because I believe in free speech. Sure they may just be trolling but it should be their right to say what they want even if what they say is stupid.

Maybe that's true, but that doesn't mean it should be true. I don't like the defeatist attitude of 'oh people are trolls on the internet and always will be', because guess what, this is our community, and each person is a part of that community. How is it different in real life? I can walk up to someone and say "you're gay" and as long as it's not like, in a corporate work place there are not going to be any repercussions unless the person I say it to wants to attack me. Like I said before, I find it sickening to want to hide behind the law to keep people silent for saying things you personally don't want them to say, regardless of whether what they say is ignorant or wrong.

I guess the internet is serious business out there. Even if it's cultural etc... it's still in my opinion an huge overreaction. Trolls are what they are, I love trolling myself. It's not like it's in the newspapers, ignoring it is the way to go. By going to the police she might wake up a larger troll community. Just saying.

People need to realise they can't act like assholes just because it's the internet. She might be overreacting but it's still a good thing. This idea of "it's just trolling so leave it" is disgusting.

Putting them trolls in their place I like it. There is no place for trolls in this world. I admire SlayerSJessica for her actions.A purge has been necessary for a long time coming
