Page 26 and onwards I will issue at least two day bans to anyone who clearly has not read the original topic post and the explanations contained therein. He was barred access to the event days before the actual event took place and used some random diamond player his account to try and get in anyway.

Leave the racial bias at the door while you are at it as well pretty please.

SEA players are obviously too lazy to train to be as good as Koreans, just like everywhere else in the world. Korean players (except for high placing players in GSL, like top4 Code S regularly) are seriously underpaid compared to foreigners. Plenty of "top" foreigners would get completely steamrolled by Code B players

I think one pathetic excuse for a progamer is enough for this thread. And Juan already took that spot so you can leave now.

Maybe in the grand scheme of things, this incident is not the Watergate for e-sports, but for the people who put their time/money as a player/host for this event, it's a huge deal to have someone blatantly disrespect the admins and intentionally cheat in a tourney designed to encourage local e-sports.

I hope other tournaments consider stuff like this when they invite people, because lying to the admins is pretty bad. They have hard enough job to keep everything running and when they can't actually trust the players and have to double check everything they say, it becomes even worse.

I didn't like Major before this event, but now I am a fan. Restricting tournaments based on nationalities is pretty hardcore racist, and I will not welcome it in my sc2 scene.

its not hardcore racist. at the very most its mildly racist. spanish basketball leagues restrict teams to having 2 foreigners only in order to maintain development of spanish players. the same is true for chinese basketball and taiwanese basketball. only americans can play in WCG USA, and only canadians can play in WCG Canada. all of these things are meant to nurture esports development in each specific country and if you read what the organizer is saying or even if you by chance have seen catz' video on his take on the concept you wouldnt be so quick to call something hardcore racist. in fact, i can think in my head of certain things in the history books that i would call hardcore racist and to compare this to those things, you should be quite ashamed of yourself for calling them the same class of racism.

I couldnt agree more. It's not racism, it's just favourism/discrimination based on nationality/citizenship.

People have the wrong understanding of the term "discrimination". It means to distinguish between people based on characteristics that are not directly relevant. In a cup that has as goal to encourage SEA talent, the nationality of the participant is very relevant, so restricting it to SEA nationalities is everything but discrimination.

Discrimination would be if everyone of age 23 would've been prevented from participating in this cup. (for example)

Allow myself to enlighten you. Discrimination doesnt necessarily imply you distinguish based on irrevalent characteristics. Discrimination has a bad reputation, but this is abuse of an etymologically neutral word.

Guess you didn't even read OP... idiot...

If SEA players don't intend to compete with people who are actually good, like Koreans who are invited to every major tournament nowadays, then why the hell would $500 tournaments encourage them to actually train? Are we just gonna hold their hand forever?

That wasn't too hard to comprehend now was it hmm?

It's to entice SEA people to train harder and get better, that isn't hard to understand. EVENTUALLY, they will get good enough to really compete on the world scene, but not right now.

It's bad for sure, but there are worse forms of cheating. Should he be banned from that tournament? Sure. Should he be banned from other events? That's up to the community.

Which is why gts (ST_KingKong) competed in and won the SC2SE AMasters cup a few weeks back, and played a great series against moonglade which he eventually won 3-2. He also then came back the next week for our community open, and lost to a SEA player...

Competing with Koreans is a fantastic way to improve, as you so intelligently pointed out (also see ST_Ace coming out for the $10,000 NRG LAN in Sydney earlier this year). But it is also relevant to ensure that all the money doesn't just flood overseas, which will stop us from developing good players like moonglade. There are not many truly great players on SEA yet, but there are a lot with potential, and this tournament is to support them by offering prize money to the best local players. They have plenty of other tournaments (read: all of them) where they get to compete with koreans.

You clearly don't know anything about the SEA SC2 scene. You need a good mix of international competition, and enough incentive/support to get locals to 'go pro' in order to actually succeed.

Agreed. The point is to encourage SEA players to prepare for and play in tournaments, and there's less incentive to do so if the top dogs from other servers are playing and will probably take the top prizes no matter what you do.

Isn't that basically what I said... that some tournaments with stronger competition is good practice against the koreans, but you also need some tournaments to provide incentive for SEA players to win and take the prizes, which should help them support themselves spending time getting better at SC2?
