OrangeMilkis Wooju Lee Well Korean netizens believe they have a good idea of how good she is... so there's a lot of backlash which is unfortunate "OrangeMilkis Wooju Lee She won a female only tournament held in YMBC in Afreeca... her opponents were said to be in silver league. That's it I think "

The worst we could do would be to lower the skill level by promoting unskilled players because of non ingame relevant features and attitudes. Then we could just as well do mach fixing. Men are overrepresented in eSports. There is an extreme disproportion in gender. Wiki: "Affirmative action refers to policies that take factors including "race, color, religion, gender, or national origin"[1] into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group, usually as a means to counter the effects of a history of discrimination." I agree better players is good regardless of gender, but your sort of functionalist way of thinking in your point "why would more women be a win for eSports in general?" is flawed - Female pro-gamers like tossgirl are iconic and demonstrated skill in beating male progamers like yellow and such - Even if female pro-gamers' skill may be lacking, I'm sure many would show up to watch them play for subjective personal reason XYZs. Or even on the streams. Higher viewership = good lol. - Could induce or spark more women to enter eSports as pros... so on and so forth I could go on and on but you get the idea All in all, to reiterate my point is that diversity (gender/class/ethnicity/religion or whatever) in eSports should be welcomed and I think Slayers obtaining her was a good move, if not vital for future developments for the team and eSports. Matching fixing has nothing to do with anything here lol.

This and the fact that prohouses tend to be all-male concerns me...would she get placed in the same house? o.O Wtf ? She is a diamond level player ? I will hold her to the same standards I hold other pro gamers. I don't expect her to be MC, but I expect her to play well at least. Everything else doesn't matter to me. To the Slayers team, I hope it doesn't cause a rift and everyone is OK with it. As long as she doesn't require special treatment it should be fine. Too bad for this girl, she will get a lot of hate even if she doesn't deserve it. If she got on Slayers being only in Diamond though, hard to pity her and a really stupid move by Slayers.

On July 15 2011 01:56 Jonas ![]() Respect to BoxeR for hiring the first Woman progamer. Diamond league in korea is like top 50 GM in NA ^__^ Are there any girls in Grandmaster league on ANY server? I haven't heard of any There was Effka on Europe, who even won a craftcup and said she was a girl, but "she" disappeared like directly after that, so I guess it was a fake... Waiting for the Slayers_Eve fanclub btw. :D

Nobody has confirmed what league she is in. If she is in slayers, you should probably assume grandmasters because it's a requirement to join their team. If you think she got a free pass in because she looks good, then keep it to yourself until it is confirmed or not.

I question your statement. "Video games" are a pastime that everybody can enjoy. However because it is socially linked as a 'male' activity and it puts a social-constraint on women in entering the video game subculture. Like how men generally wouldn't play with dolls/Barbies or join some sort of knitting club. The activities and jobs we do today are gendered whether your choose to accept this or not. These constraints and flows are what allow and do not allow - advantage and skill to be gained. I don't know jack shit about biology and the differences between male/female hand-eye coordination and its effects on video games. However, I do know that your comment was pretty grand without proper justification.
