I'm going to be honest - I didn't think FXO was going to win a single game for entire season, but they did really well winning 2 games on their first night of play. More training and more experience playing in the GSTL will only mean better results.
On a side note, what is up with Sheth's keyboard in lap style? What if he moves slightly and the keyboard comes out of place...

Weird strategy though. Went top-heavy with their top 3 players - qxc/Sheth/Oz - and try to win without having to rely on some of their weaker players. Unfortunately once qxc lost 0-1 without winning a game it became incredibly hard to accomplish what they were trying to do....Sheth going 1-1 and Oz going 1-1 was good for them but not for team...to have won that with qxc 0-1, they would've had to go 2-1 each, and I could see Sheth going 2-1 with the win against Curious but then Oz would've had to fight Bomber first and then probably July....not happening.
Still, <3 Sheth and Oz for taking a game off Startale. Disappointed with qxc for not taking a game off ST , Tiger is just a regular solid protoss...could've picked him apart with qxcdrops but they never came...sigh. The early game pressure was also so juvenile, few marines picked off here and there for no reason.

Without revealing too much of our strategy, we got put in a point where we had to put a player who could beat a protoss up. So, we had Oz and sheth to choose from. Our other players wouldn't have beaten the execution style strategies that tiger was dishing out. He played 2 strats that were purely (if this works i win, if it doesnt i cant come back). As you saw in sheths game, once he failed his all in, he lost.
Sheth would have had a hard time vs bomber, so he went out next. And it would also mean they wouldnt send july out cos julys zvz is pretty bad. So we lined it up so that they would send out another protoss, curious wasn't expected and is very good. Unfortunately, sheth wasnt very familiar with the map he was playing on, but put up a good fight.
So then we have a z left in.. Do I risk going 3-1? its better to keep it tight in this situation so they really do have to bring out the big guns.
After Oz came out, he beat curious (curious knocked him out of code A quals 2 seasons ago). So he got some revenge + kept the scores even...I have results on ladder to say that bomber and july weren't going to be the hardest player. I was expecting them to send our squirtle, and I thought that Oz would win, he played mechanically better than squirtle, but the strategy exchange on PVP is sometimes very unforgiving. I was hoping that instead of squirtle, ace would come out, as their ace. It didn't happen. But squirtle is good anyway.
Finally Moonan went out as our final player because he was safer on the maps we had left than tgun and slog. But nerves got to him. The best part of what happened in the GSTL is now the players have the experience in the studio, so next game the nerves wont be much of an issue.
I hope this helps with my decision making.
I hate to come in here and be critical, because I really hope that FXO performs to their capacity but...To suggest that online ladder and GSTL is in anyway, shape, or form of the same relativity is absurd.
They also weren't forced to play their ace because Oz dropped against Squirtle. However, if Oz had won, you can guarantee that Bomber is coming out as their Ace card. He has displayed some of the most dominant, consistent games in nearly every match up with victories over MC, and MVP.
Yea. I really didn't know what FXOpen meant by bomber not being the hardest player. I mean bomber.. the guy who had like the craziest win percentage on the korean ladder and stayed number 1 for a while.. only losing it other good people like marineking.. i mean bomber took out MC... only way bomber can lose is in zvt, where he lost games to nestea/moon. Other than that, he 8-2 whitera, took out mc, took out mma and mvp in tvts.... and sheth was out of the game so theres no zergs that can even think of taking out bomber...
its just a fucking game why do people make such a big deal about it, ok so what hope they win! you guys are racist punks.. so what if they are foreigners, they dont deserve to win any more than the koreans, fxo has failed to deliver any kind of decent performance, so I dont see how anything will change. But this has gone too far, wtf is this gay speech, I know its a joke but WTF is this bullshit about our courage, what courage? WTF is this shit so what they get paid to fly out and play against koreans but in the end they still get their salary.. you guys make me sick

Anyway, Good Luck.
We had Bomber and July written as their ace card. Depending on the race. Every player has a race they dont like/perform least well against.
Whether or not someone is the best player is purely a point of opinion. And all are entitled to theirs.
For my team, bomber wasn't the biggest concern Your criticism is good.
If Oz beat squirtle, I would have been surprised if bomber came ahead of July. Just because they are well aware of Oz and how he plays. IMO it would have been Ace or July. And Ace would have played last vs us if it got to that point imo. He is a total beast right now.
Got to say I applauded fxo for having the balls for going to korea, but after hearing fxo say bomber isn't hard and that drg has been figured out by koreans, I don't like their attitude and lack of respect they have for players. Will be rooting for them to be all killed from now on.

they will improve miles and come back from korea as probably the strongest foreign team in the world as well as become some of the scariest players in the world.
well if bomber or july came out first, there was a possibility of being all killed , but it seemed they didnt need to pull out anybody top tier.
anyway, didnt the startale couch mention something about giving lesser players a chance against so called "easy teams", thats what they did, gave lesser players a shot and they managed to finish up fxo.
i dont expect much from fxo in the gstl, but i hope they can at least win one series, who do they play next?
I find it a bit lame that FXO is using a high percentage Korean players. I feel the community was looking forward to FXO moving there because they wanted to see how a foreigner team would match up against Korean teams. Using Korean players makes me lose some of the excitement from watching their matches.
In the first match they played, 2 out of the 4 players they picked were Korean. Yes Moonan has been playing from NA for a bit now but he is Korean born and raised and to me that doesn't make him a foreigner just like Huk, Idra, and Jinro playing in Korea doesn't make them Korean.
Maybe FXO will use more foreigners in the future and it was just by chance that they used 50% of their picks on Koreans in their first game but i doubt it. This is because FXO's main priority should be winning. I mean if I was the coach of FXO I would do whatever gives the team the best chance of winning. That probably means playing Moonan and the few Koreans they picked up since moving there. It still feels a bit lame in the end though.

i know you are FXO's coach and you "love" your own team, but comon, thats just so extremely biased. relating player skill to their ladder and i quote you "I have results on ladder to say that bomber and july weren't going to be the hardest player." is so incredibly absurd, please stop trolling. most of the members on TL know of bomber, and has seen his incredible plays, and as of july, i dont need to mention. i mean i would LOVE to see FXO perform really well, but FXO2-4ST, when ST sent their 'weakest' players isnt something to be proud of.. and the truth is, if bomber was first up, there would've been a very good chance of all kill all i can say is your lack of respect for said players makes me want to root for FXO getting all killed.

If you don't have anything nice to say dont say anything at all if someone is rooting for a team they want to win even thinking they probably wont, you shouldnt come in shitting on them for it, so please shut up.
Guys have some faith in the FXO manager, I can't believe people would come into this thread calling what Josh says absurd or trolling when he suggests that Bomber wasn't their biggest concern given matchups and data they collected.
These are the kind of responses from TL users that really make me feel sad, FXO managers and players have no obligation to respond or give information but Josh is making an effort here, and he's met with people not just criticizing his decisions but insulting him.
It's not that difficult to believe Bomber wasn't their biggest concern. FXO could've had players practicing hard against Terran, or have good matchups, or recognize something from additional information. Just because you as a spectator see Bomber as Startale's best player doesn't mean your knowledge is somehow better than theirs. It certainly doesn't warrant you talking in a disrespectful way to a team manager that really deserves our support here.
What do you guys want him to say, "omg we're scared of bomber the instant he comes out it's over?" TBH Bomber is a little overrated as it is, he dropped many games at Dreamhack and looked VERY beatable. If Mana, Sarens, and Haypro can take a game off him there, then plenty of FXO guys can beat him in a Bo1 in GSTL.
Criticism is fine, but be respectful -- I'd be a little happier to even have this discourse rather than use it as an opportunity to flame FXO. Kind of disappointed at some of the posts here.
FXO's next match is against Zenex i believe, I have alot of faith that FXO will be able to defeat them, and if not it will be 4-3. Much respect to everyone on FXO and the things they are doing good luck guys! The night you play 5 of my friends and i will be watching you on the big screen tv and hoping you win GL! FXO Fighting!
