Slasher, with all due ESPORTS respect you should probably take Milkis's advice with a lot more credibility. Maybe have him on the show to jump in and educate the nerds about whats up in Korea. There are a ton of different opinions on SC2 in Korea right now but only very few of them are credible are accurate at all. You may have done your research for the show but the people covering BW have been doing their research for years now.

I'll still be tuning in, good luck guys.

I have no doubt that Milkis knowledge and history in this area is extremely valuable and welcomed by myself, Wheat and Scoots. We're going to try and do open-phones and I'd love to bring him on ASAP. But to say I/we should not comment on these matters because we don't have proper knowledge of the situation is beyond preposterous and slightly insulting.

Agreed. Just telling people not to talk about something due to a perceived lack of knowledge is stupid.

Misinformation? I have gathered my information from here on TL based on your translations of Korean reports. Are you saying those Korean reports are false?

People will take your interpretations as facts and use them all over the forums. I mean, this isn't a news show -- you're not just going to talk about the article but use that to make some really weird conclusions without knowing much about the Korean scene at all... it's going to be extremely silly.

There are also still no "translations" regarding the WCG on OGN thing, btw, just my one line tweet and a grossly misinterpreted chinese translation of the TIG original

This IS a news show - the main topics on the show are news which are then interpreted by us with opinions. The Chinese source is still a source that has Lyn/Moon playing WC3 over SC2, it's at least credible. Can't deny the validity in our opinions just because we dont have extreme Brood War legacy - I still do research about the facts. Same goes with Jessica, and the STX trades/free agency.

I'm fine if you guys do that with anything else, but when it comes to anything Korean? I don't think you guys know much about either scene and how they operate =/

PS: Where in the STX say anything about free agency? :O

Sorry - up for trade. I find your assertions about our (at least my) knowledge on the Korean scene rather uninformative yourself. I have worked for WCG directly and interacted with OGN staffing heavily from last year, as well as contacts to the main journalists from Fomos, PlayXP and ThisIsGame, whom I talk to semi-regularly for updates and opinions. Additionally, my research is thorough no matter the continent it is happening on.

By contacts you mean you have them on twitter? =/

WCG is a different entity. What kind of interaction with "OGN Staff", when you don't even speak the same language?

"We'll see", I suppose. Your call in the end, but I'd honestly be a bit more careful when talking about issues like this, especially when it comes to the scope of things.

Dude - Come on. No, not on Twitter, email and instant messaging them directly through MSN & Skype. I have spoken to them through Korean translators and eaten together during WCG-staff dinners from last year. Me having to even say this to justify myself in the first place is ridiculous.

Haha, alright. I do apologize for the questioning and the bit of condescension. Most of it was based on your topic titles for today's show and your previous notes on the matter.

Hopefully it'll be much better than I originally anticipated then and that I was indeed quite wrong to question you.

Aren't STX just trading players within BW? I've seen nothing to suggest they're directly dropping their players...

For a "news" show that spreads opinions, I hope that you guys are using more than just team liquid posts as a source. There's a reason why professors and professionals cringe when Wikipedia or forums are cited as a source of information.

Much of what's been posted on teamliquid has been just flat out wrong or taken out of context due to the fact that many posters have not lived in korea, understand korean culture, or speak / read korean (Google translations are horrible =\). If you have contacts at OGN and other Korean e-sports media, I would hope you'd have tapped the sources of the information directly.

Anyway, going to definitely tune in to today's show.

I don't mean to be a huge fan boy here but it seems like you are questioning one of the most tried and true esports journalist for basically no reason. I am not saying Slasher can't make mistakes or exaggerate but rather that the show isn't a hard hitting fact driven organization but a talk show where the hosts who have good contacts get the best info they can and banter about it. My point is that if Slasher took 5 hours tracking down people and translating everything for a 15 minute story at most it would be a huge waste of time and not really the purpose of the show.

These guys are here to get a pulse on the community and go in depth when it is needed but not to be some sort of SC2 watchdog organization. I will be watching also =).

It's gonna be sad when they've dismissed dota for the last 5 years, then dota 2 comes out and they try hard to ride the popularity wave. Can't wait for the episode after gamescom when they try to hop aboard.

Valve is flying in rumored 14 teams (5 people each) to germany full expenses paid. Gabe and co have even talked about esports and how the devs dont support it enough and have done everything possible to intergrate dota 2 esports into the actual game. It's amazing Lo3 never gives any credit to dota.

I mean for god's sake Valve is basically doing things with dota 2 , bnet 2.0 could only dream of. They've stated they are going to actually put full support behind the pro scene. There is already a full professional dota scene in china with full time pro teams. There are numerous european teams / american star players etc.

Q: Can you spectate an already ongoing DotA 2 game? (by Valo)
A: A lot of the game will be built around spectating and shoutcasting support. You will be able to join most ongoing games (unless the players marked it as private) and just watch them. You can join a game your friend is in, see what your favorite clan is doing, or simply pick a skill level and a hero you like and it will find you one to watch. We also have a system in place that automatically distributes the load to multiple servers so that the game itself won’t be affected by users joining to spectate. Our distribution network will allow us to support any number of users that want to watch, by dynamically assigning more servers to the task. There will also be special tags and search options to help you find live or old shoutcasted games. Shoutcasters will be able to operate as directors, so anyone watching will have his camera looking at the same things the shoutcaster is viewing. There is also an optional anti-cheat mechanism built in so that the game you are spectating can be time delayed by any amount of time to reduce potential abuse.

Gabe Newell: The piece of the puzzle that I’m always curious about is that nobody’s done a good job of making watching that entertaining enough. If I could take six months off just to work on that problem, that’d be pretty cool. Because I think there’s a huge amount of opportunity there.

Obviously, there’s a bunch of things that professional competitive gamers care about. You know, like, I care about this in terms of latency. I care about this in terms of user interface issues. I care about this in terms of how tournaments are managed. And those things are all pretty tractable, and the nice things about professional gamers is they tend to be sophisticated in their descriptions of what it is that they would like. It’s pretty easy to get a laundry list from them and say, okay, we can do three of these right away. I think the harder problem is how to make what they are doing, which is awesome…every time I see one of the people at the elite levels playing any game whether it’s WoW or DOTA or Counter-Strike it’s just stunning how good it is.

But I think what’s also stunning is the terrible job we as an industry have done so far in terms of making it entertaining to watch and appreciate how talented and skilled those people are. So if I had to pick one problem to tackle in that space it would be to make it more fun to be a spectator. Is there anything that you know about what’s going on with the competitive scene…?

Erik Johnson: I think DOTA is going to be the product where we are going to focus on this problem. It presents some advantages over some of our other games in terms of viewing just because of the type of game it is. It has a very well established mature professional scene. We’re going to push on this. I think it’s way undervalued. There’s a lot of room there.

Saying you are going to do something and doing it can be different things. They don't give any credit to something that isn't even out yet. When it comes it then they will give credit if it's due it. Current dota community is notorious for being fickle.
