No offense to Fenix, but this is a bit ridiculous that they would just go through the ranking and give Code A spots to anyone that accepts third. Fenix ranked 11th at MLG Columbus afaik... most of the Koreans in the code A qualifier can probably rank higher than that. How is this fair to people like Donraegu, Ganzi, Line, TheSTC, etc etc, whom all are deserving of at least a Code A spot, but because of the brutal qualifier, didn't get through?

Because GOM is doing this from a marketing standpoint rather than a "let's get the best players" view. They want foreigners. By your argument, Huk shouldn't have ever made it to GSL in his Code A debut. He was an invite. He got knocked out of the qualifiers when he tried during the open seasons. GOM wants to expand to the foreign scene cause its about money, not about talent

Yes, Huk was undeserving of the spot either. What has he done after he got the spot? Never advancing far or anything. But noticed I said "was". I agree that he is now deserving to be in Code S, but that is because of his hard work and what not. I'd rather him go thru the qualifier now and prove himself. But let's not derail this into a debate about Huk any further.

And as for marketing standpoint, are the foreign audience that blind to just watch any GSL matches as long as it involves a foreigner? I have nothing against the exchange program, so long as they invite the actual top players, aka deserving players. Inviting the 11th and 14th is going over the board. I don't know about you guys, but as a SC2 fan, I'd much prefer watching a game because it is a high level epic game. But I guess most of the foreign fans aren't like me, and would watch anything as long as there is a white guy in the booth.

Thorzain placed 9th in MLG Columbus, are you gonna include him too in your rant?
Or how about this? July managed to get 'only' 13th in the same tournament.. I guess he placed 13th because he's obviously not an actual top player uh? -- your own words.

You don't realize how hard it is to come from the open bracket and place in the top 16 in any MLG as of late pal.. if July barely managed, how do you figure it's a piece of cake for most other lower-rated korean players?

Is has nothing really to do with the open bracket. If July had continued to play run of the mill NA/EU players he'd have continued winning easilly and placed higher, but he met Moon (a good player) and lost. July could have baneling busted random Chobo's all day long just as he did in the open bracket, this is a guy who's practiced Starcraft 10 hours a day for almost a decade and you think he gets burnout?

It's the same for Thorzain, he lost because he played a better player than him in MC, not because he was tired from rolling players a lot worse than him.

So you think players don't get tired after playing 16 hrs for three days in a row? are you talking from experience here or it's just your hunch?

I also think Moon is a good player but I would never bet against July if both players were matched under similar circumstances... that was an upset.. July was expected to go through to top 4 -- after beating Idra and losing to MC.

As for Thorzain, he himself said that he was tired due to the tournament format and would never play again in another MLG -- same as Morrow.

I have to say though, July's zvz has never looked very good.. I can understand why he lost if for no other reason than his zvz.

I think it is great more non-koreans are moving over into GSL/GSTL. i would prefer to see someone like Select go over, but Naniwa and ThorZain will be great additions. Hopefully Fenix will be a good competitor.

Many people feel sorry for good korean players' code b such as DongRaeGu and Moon.
Fenix might get preferential chance.
Some think that's not fair.

But my opinion is that koreans have more good enviornments in many respects.
though they have to compete in more harsh conditions.

I believe inviting Fenix is a good trying.

If he is not qualified, he should lost Code A and be defeated in GSTL,
and then we would criticize the decision.

Sheth won a spot on july Code A, he wasn't invited. He BEAT enough koreans to get that spot. That's SOMETHING; as a Zerg player, no less (I think only 4 zergs qualified into Code A this time).

Yay more foreigners going! Good luck to Fenix!

Although I gotta say, Fenix certainly isn't in the same tier as Naniwa or Thorzain...

Sheth wasn't in Korea during the qualifiers.

Which raises the question why did GSL invite him independent of the MLG/GSL LXG

Just just as Huk wasn't deserving to be in it back then, Fenix definitely doesn't deserve his spot over players like Dongraegu, Ganzi, Line, STC, etc.

Fenix 2-0'd STC in the last FXOpen tourney . Sure he's had ups and downs but he's a very capable player.

GOM actually brought back their policy of handing out code A seeds to notable foreigners (at their discretion). The current policy is to give code A seeds to 'players who have won notable tournaments' but I'm guessing since they're so happy FXO is participating in the GSTL that GOM felt it would be wise to give FXO a code A spot to its best player (Sheth). Unlike the exchange program through which Naniwa, Thorzain and Fenix are coming, GOM doesn't provide for flight costs or living arrangements so all of Sheth's expenses are taken care of by FXO.

I seriously wonder how the Koreans feel about all these free spots being given away. With all the extremely skilled Korean talent being left behind in Code B I don't see how anything like this is justified, apart from some kind of publicity stunt.

Oh well, GL all the foreigners in GSL: Non-Korean!

You kind of just answered your own question - publicity!

Its good for the GSL to have more foreigners because it increases the viewership. Just the same as MLG / Dreamhack inviting Koreans makes them more interesting to watch.

They gave away a few spots sure, but its a good decision.
