yeah, because cutting options makes the game more interessting...
watch out... sarcasm + Show Spoiler +wouldn't it be interessting if starting bases were on the open field? then terran and protoss would finally have to make more than 2buildings to be safe and do whatever they want.
wouldn't it be interessting if there were no obstacles on the field? then terran and protoss had to be able to defend against all directions, not only stuff that comes from the front.

These maps look rather good. Wonder how they'll feel to play on

Because they are better. Balanced, aestheticly and innovative. Also tested by alot of nerds.
Sadly theres no exposure, not even a glance on the forums from time to time. You have to be attached to iCCup to even come close to someone up there looking at your map. And you cant get attached to iCCup.

Hmm I can't really tell from the preview but I hope the last 1v1 map is cut off east and west very short with the terrain similar to north and south. Other wise it makes the 5 and 11 spawns insanely favored

I an looking forward for the replacement of Delta, Slag and Scrap.
I also hope Blizzard will put in another GSL map, such as Bel'Shir Beach (they said they will replace half of the maps). It would be absolutely awesome!

Blizz map making team don't want to lose their job. That's why they refuse to use GSL maps like Bel Beach, etc. They have to make something (even ugly maps), to keep their jobs.

Why does every new map provoke 6 pool

If player likes maps too much, I even would consider it wrong, because as I see it, many players are lazy and like to have easy access to bases with no hassle to defend them.
I wonder about the mindset to approach new maps. It seems to be common to just criticize them even with no play experience on that map. Some even proclaim that they will vote a map down instantly. I would say that the mindset should be "How can I use the map for my play style?" and "How could I adjust my play style to ensure best results when I play this map?"

Read sir. Im not saying they are bad, im saying that they can pick up alot of good maps or ideas from the forums here on balance and innovative ideas.

The last sixpool I lost to was successful because I microed my drones very badly and I did not had my overlord in the right position. Sixpool is only a threat to an unexperienced player or to a good player who takes a calculated risk.

Damn... Haven't played for about a month so pardon me for asking... But when is Season 3 set to begin??
I have about 500 bonus points I'd like to spend before the reset if I can find the time for gaming.

Speaking of rocks, there is not a single blue base on any of these maps with rocks on it, and only one where there are rocks on your (gold) third. All the other rocks are used to block attack paths, which is a much better use.
Map 4 has an easy third, and there's not so much as a pebble on it. These are blizzard maps, and as such will be hated by the TL community no matter how they look or play out.
Pretty telling that a few comments about hard 3rds on the first page have been regurgitated for 40-ish pages.
I think map 4 and 2 look very nice, wish we had an EU PTR to test them.

You will (not) take a third.
|
The 8 player maps could be a little bigger with more expansions offering and greater distances to offer other tactics then the annoying 5min rush.
|
Basically in the eyes of a typical TL poster, all Blizzard maps are atrocious (even before we've tried playing on them) and every user-made map is a brilliant piece of art (likewise, judged before they are played.)

seriously whos making all this shitty 2x2 maps for blizzard, im really curious

If I understood David Kim right, Blizzard likes to keep some rules for their maps. Innovative ideas often break those rules.
On the other hand, Blizzard seems to be obsessed with destructible rocks. But this is probably the only way to force their usage. Since destructible rocks are no official BW feature (sometimes neutral buildings were used for third-party maps) they would probably be considered unnecessary by most mappers. I think that destructible rocks add a nice strategic element since you need to plan ahead to take such bases or to open certain paths. This adds depth to the game. The rocks also provide a more realistic feeling in the sense of "my actions have consequences" as they allow some changes of the map layout.
Blizzard maps don't seem exactly what the players want, but to a certain point I like that Blizzard does not follow too much the wishes of the players because they often want to have an easy way to play.
Blizzard divided their maps into three categories, this don't leave much room for innovation. If a map is too innovative, that map will require a very special play style just for that map.
I also like to say that tournaments require different skills anyway. It is reasonable to have special tournament maps but the ladder should offer more maps for the rest of us.
|
im quite interested in seeing which maps are removed from the ladder pool, i cant see them removing the 2 players maps if they arent putting any in, but well with blizzard you never know...

Is there any word on when these maps will go public and when season 3 starts? I feel like I just started season 2!!! :o
