FXOpen e-Sports is excited to announce the latest addition to our roster, Korean Protoss Twilight. We’re delighted to have the experience and raw skill of a player like Twilight on our team and look forward to what he will bring not only in the upcoming GSTL season but in international events as well. We’ve been thoroughly impressed by his conduct in and out of SC2 and hope he finds a new home at FXOpen e-Sports.
"After meeting twilight in Korea, I knew I had to have him on the team. He is an amazing protoss and a great person. He will add extra spark to our team and it will be a pleasure having him at the team house in Malaysia" Joshua "FXOBoSs" Dentrinos, FXOpen e-Sports owner Twilight joined Hite SPARKYZ as SeCret in early 2008 as a Brood War professional, and after participating in several leagues quit in October of 2010. He has taken games off of notable BW players during his career such as Bisu and Violet. After retiring from BW, he joined the fOu team for StarCraft II acting as a player and coach, holding two accounts in the top 25 Korean Grandmaster ladder.
![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/images/players/629.jpg) FXOz - 김학수 First of all, I'm very honored to team up with FXO, and would like to thank FXO for appreciating what I have to offer in SC2. I will support all of my new team members and also believe that FXO will help me reach my own potential as a player. Kim "FXOz" Hak Soo, FXOpen e-Sports Protoss While fOu was good for Twilight he looks to expand his presence in SC2 to the global scene, and in doing so brings his considerable experience as both a previous GSTL participant and also as a team coach/mentor to FXO. Expect to see Twilight competing in international events as well as all Korean-based competitions for FXO in the near future!

Ooh, awesome. Koreans joining foreign teams now.
Lets see what ends up happening to Rain.
|
Woah great news. FXO is becoming the first truly global team ^^
|
He beat Bisu and Free, mang.
|
wow this is pretty sick, nice job fxo :D
|
|
|
Holy ship. That's amazing! He going to be in GSTL? And can he speak English?
|
this is very cool news, Gratz to FXO and twilight ))
|
Does twilight speak english or how will the communication work in malaysia?
|
Sweet - hopefully he'll become boss at SC2. He took games off of Violet, Canata, Bisu, and free in his short BW career.
|
much better pickup then rain
|
He was nothing special in Broodwar, even if it is funny than one of his four victories was over Bisu. Still, he's probably going to do well in the foreign tournaments.
|
Yep still waiting to see what happens with rain but this is great news for SC! Koreans outside Korea
|
Koreans joining foreign teams!
Now we play the waiting game on Rain's fate.
|
This is pretty exciting news! GO FXO!
|
ooo, this is just the thing FXO needs to become the strongest foreigner team. let's see how the guys deal with BW trainining
|
We have slog and moonan on the team who speak korean, and I will put him through english lessons which he said he wants to do.
|
Cant say i expected this, good luck anyways

Kind of like nearly all of the dominate current SC2 players eh?
Seems like a really solid pickup, hope to see him play some SC2 soon!

|
Congratulations. Will FXOz be playing on the NA server as well as KR?
|
Yeh he will be able to compete in GSTL.
|
OH WOW. Hooooly shit. This guy is going to be an absolute beast when he acclimatizes to SC2. Loved him in BW.
|
Erm, so he's ID with team tag is FXOFXOz?
But kinda great that FXO recruited a Korean SC2 pro.
A little bit weird that he would give up on the team in which he was a long time captain and I believe a coach as well. But good luck to FXO with the new acquisition.
Btw, Twilight's best SC2 record so far is probably his victory over Fruitdealer in GSTL 2.

Dayum good news indeed. I've always felt FXO's Protoss forces are a bit lacking but this seems to have been solved.

Wow ! :D I like that piece of news. Really looking forward seeing them participate in the GSTL now.

great pickup, steal rain as well and u've got some great potential

Nice! Im excited to see how will fxo do in gstl

The best part of this news, is that he'll be a coach aswell, and a coach familiarized with BW methods of training isn't something to be subestimated. FXO probably closed their roster, and their ready to rock it up.
|
No Rain?

this new group of koreans interested in the foreign scene is really interesting

No he is a work in progress with the english. Slog and moonan are korean, so they translate for me when necessary. But Oz is a great guy, and very charismatic.
|
Very impressive catch there, deL.
Looks like FXO is going all-in with StarCraft. Not only providing a fancy castle in Thailand, but actually importing a korean coach to make sure that their players can properly reach their potential.
FXO is looking strong. EG, Liquid, Dignitas, watch your back, because FXOpen is coming to town.

He usually goes by the name of SecretfOu and was their playing coach. he was probably their protoss ace

Kinda weird seeing koreans in foreign teams. Will be interesting

I think its an excellent pickup by FXO, just sad that he is not using his old ID. So he will be living in the teamhouse in Malaysia in the future?
What about Rain ;]
|
He will probably focus on KR server, as the rest of the team in malaysia most probably will also. But he will definitely have accounts on all major servers, EU KR and NA

ah this is a really good pickup. Not just in terms of player skill but also they finally have a guy who understands the ins and outs of broodwar/sc2 progaming houses as well as the proper way a team should be coached.
If they keep this guy in the loop as more than just a player ( and knowing how competent FXO is , they will), they will benefit HUGELY.
Great acquisition. Good luck to Secret and FXO

What I think he means is that Korean-based Starcraft players on foreigner teams, which is rather new for the Starcraft/Starcraft 2 scene.
A lot of Koreans WC3 were picked up by foreign teams though (MYM.Moon, SK. Lyn), so it's not exactly a new thing.
|
I'm really happy for FXO and for twighlight, as this is probably a win-win for all parties involved. However, a small part of me is a little disappointed that the only true foreigner team in the GSTL is resorting to adding Koreans to the roster to bolster their line up. I'm sure FXO knows what's best for them, but somehow I can't help but feel like they are giving up or copping out. In any case, good luck!!

Just wondering, what are the names of his accounts that are top 25 on the KR ladder? Quite interested in seeing his W-L ratio.
Also, a little off-topic, but what happened to iceiceice?

I dont quite get what you are saying pyo, about giving up and copping out. We are a foreign organisation, and not a korean organisation, and never will be a korean organisation.... But at the same time, we have to do what we can for our team. Taking on a player such as Oz is very good for everyone involved. Our 'foreign' players will no doubt get so much better from this. Thus its possible they will raise the bar for foreign competition. And furthermore foreigners will try to keep up.
At the same time, it bridges the "korea v foreigner" garbage that shouldn't exist in our community. There is no racial battle...
|
Yeah, maybe we'll see this nice mix of Korean & Foreign training methods as well. It still strikes me there's a more effective manner than grinding out 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, but you still need directed training methods.
Also, with VT/Reign's announcement (and inControl letting slip EG's plans), we're going up to 3 full training houses outside of Korea, with at least 2-3 informal ones as well. Things are getting really serious.
|
Twilight was quite the BW pro. Not the strongest, but it's cool that FXO has a guy like him now.

Wooot Secret! He was like best sc1 player (when sc2 released) who has switched to sc2 :o FXO starting to look really strong~

Interesting pick up. Definitely will help strengthen FXO's line up but it should be noted that ever since he left and Choya become captain of FoU they have been doing better. Taking out TSL in the team league, leenock/SC/theBest all surfacing in the team league.
Still the guy has some sick KR ladder stats. He could be another DRG.

Its nice to see 'foreign' teams pick up korean players. Hopefully this trend will continue and the SC2 community will become a more global one, rather than remaining as a segmented community based upon 'Korean vs Foreigner'.

This is a brilliant move by FXO, having Oz just in their team house will be endlessly beneficial in training. I was worried that when FXO moved over they would be behind in the korean metagame off the get go. Great move by boss and I can't wait to root for FXO in the GSTL!!

If that is the attitude with which FXO is approaching this, I don't really have a problem and am actually excited about it. I was just worried that the "foreign team" might end up becoming just another Korean team or end up in a situation where everyone just shrugs off your successes as simply being "w/e they're actually just another korean team with foreign sponsors." But if you're aiming toward creating Korean-foreigner partnerships (like Liquid-oGs) and/or using Korean experience to build up your team (à la Pelé and US soccer), I couldn't be more supportive.
|
Wierd. Part of the charm of all "foreigner" teams is that well they are foreigner teams. I atleast support those teams because of the character stories of the majority of the players even if they aren't the best. The pick up of koreans let alone non-marque signings makes little sense to me.
Best of luck to FxO and Twilight though. Certainly has more potential than being just a coach.

Very very good move from FXO. Having a player of this caliber might secure them some 1st places in some foreign tournaments. I hope the communication will go well and the rest of the team can share. For FXO there is a lot to learn from this guy. SC1 korean progamer training is on another level.

Part of the term "foreigner team" is the fact they never managed to pick up a korean player. I at least support those teams that have both character stories and have the foresight of becoming truly competitive in a discipline that becomes more and more global by the day. The pick up of koreans is a natural move in order to benefit from both worlds.

Being named Hussein does not mean you are from Iraq (the middle name of the current US president for example). However, Haypro does have his country listed as "Iraq" on the TL forums:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/profile.php?user=Liquid`HayprO
You should use this as evidence to support your claim, not his name.

You can check his TLPD's profile; it lists him as a Swedish. Having last name sound Arabic does not mean he has to come from the Middle East, as there were a lot of immigrations in the past.

I wonder how this is going to work out with the Koreans in foreign teams. Nice pickup FXO.
It would be awesome if FXO encouraged them to learn English,by paying them lessons.Would be hugely beneficial for them if they are going to actively compete outside of Korea.

Why did you guys keep this a secret for so long?

great pickup, congrats FXO!
really looking forward to seeing how FXO will fare in the future. It's looking real good so far.

Great move, I thought that FXO needed a player with experience with coaching , and who knows how to train efficiently, and who can do it better than an ex bw player? And he is probably very good as well which will also help ^^.

Is this the first time a native Korean joins a foreigner team in SC2?
It feels like the game is still so young, yet the ESPORTS part of it is being handled somewhat like BW.
I could not have predicted this much growth despite all the balance fixes that are still to come in multiplayer.
Next thing you know, players will be drafted into teams and sign contracts.

Cant wait to see him in action in GSTL! Congrats guys, seems like a great pick!

Dont really know the guy but looking at his experience with bw/sc2 hes definitely a great pickup, best of luck in the gstl.

Phoenix (formerly from werra) to Team Reign. Obviously doesn't include international Koreans like Select and Moonan.

Nice to see SC2 scene following WC3's footsteps. A few years from now and we'll probably see top koreans playing for foreign-based teams.

This is pretty cool a Korean joining a foreigner team this must be a first because it's usually the other way around, I guess if you don't count select.

Cool to see this big pickup. Although he hasn't had many notable league results yet, the fact that he is a ladder beast with 2 accounts is an indication of huge potential. I have a feeling that his coaching experience will be a valuable asset for the FXO team in Korea. I'm very much looking forward to the team's performances in the GSTL.
Now about a certain Rain...
|
Very good addition. FXO sure needed another Protoss, and this will definitely help out a lot!
|
better grab them koreans now before they earn money in korean teams!
|
I'm looking forward to FXO's showing in Korea. I would expect a rocky start, but I wouldn't be surprised to be surprised, they're definitely making the solid moves needed to get rolling as soon as the first season of the GSTL. Good luck FXO, and good luck to Liquid as well. With some solid foreign professionals, I have the utmost confidence that not only can the GSL become truly "Global", but that SC2 can dominate the e-sports scene and expand it like no other.
It all starts here, with the risks that your teams are taking.

To answer a question asked many times. In Malaysia he will undergo english lessons, just to make his time at foreign events easier. With slog and moonan in the house and the english he knows already, its already easy to communicate. But I feel its better for him as a person to be able to speak english, so I am arranging it.

Awesome, now take a look at how goot medoicre no-name BW Professionals are in SC2. What will happen then when even above-average players switch over?

Very cool that he will be learning to speak english! Very big initiative; it's a pretty huge change in lifestyle playing for an international team and taking big steps to interact with us
|
Whoa, that's a pretty nice pickup. Apparently he's only 22 too, I could've sworn he was older. -_-

Maybe they will use Twilight to all kill fou , like slayers did with Taeja (or almost did i cant remember)

This is sick, never thought he would do this though.

Within a couple of months they'd have better mechanics in SC2 - however, it'd take a lot longer than that to pick up the strategy and whatnot. I'd say when the good players start switching over expect a year delay till they reach the level of the top SC2 players...

Awesome pickup for FXO! Really great to see Koreans joining foreigner teams. I'd love to see more of that in the future. Would be nice if some European teams picked up a Korean as well. Seems like the cultural differences between Koreans and Europeans are fairly small all in all. Should work out well in theory. South Korea has a pretty strong bond with USA though, so I suppose that's the first place they wanna visit and live in for a while.

Wow, you're actually spending money for a progamer to take English lessons; it's really great, but that's quite bold to make such an offer. This pick-up could easily catapult him to stardom really fast.

FXO is doing an awesome job of seriously investing in its own player pool. I'm 100% sure it will pay off in the near future. Very good move to locate to Korea by taking advantage of GOM's various resources and policies.

Ooo thats sweet. Seems like foreign teams are really starting to get interesting ie: Team Reign and FXO maybe Rain also goes to FXO?

Brilliant move. I hope we see more of this in the future with other foreign teams as well as Korean teams taking in foreigners. About time we start getting rid of all that unnecessary Us vs Koreans hostility.

Yep, Koreans can't have any stories. In fact, they're all robots with no personality whatsoever.

Cheater would be someone who uses illegal methods to win a game (maphack). You call him a cheater for losing a game on purpose? Afaik IdrA lost yesterday on purpose in the NASL in order to avoid good protosses in the playoffs.
|
Wow, thats pretty awesome, Grats FXO
|
|
Wow. Has it be come the, if you can't beat'em acquire'em.
This was rather surprising. Lets see how that merger works though.
|
FXO's roster is really rounding out well now. Twilight is obviously good. Sheth, if he can get past his nerve issues (i.e. vs MMA @ MLG, could have won that series if he didn't make so many mistakes). And when QXC gets back into competitive shape he is very, very good. He's almost there I think too, only lost to Thorzain and Select at MLG, both 2-1 and good games.
Really looking forward to GSTL!
|
I was expecting Rain, maybe he will climb aboard later on. Seems cool that many Koreans want in on the foreign community, It's kind of a reverse roll of BW. Probably a good pickup for FXO, if you got it, spend it!
|
|
Wow, this was weird for me... A korean joining a foreign team??? How bad-ass is SC2??? GO FXO! You're all baller people - and I hope to see him on the GSTL team.
|
Nice news. I like how SC2 is becoming more international day by day
|
Haven't heard of him but perhaps that will change in the future, he sounds pretty damn good! Seems like he's a great addition to any roster
|
Soon foreign won't simply mean non-Korean anymore
|
Is Twilights eng good enough? good addition to the FXO, with GSTL coming up :D:D
|
Awww man, FXO is so badass. So pumped for GSL. Can't wait!!

Wow, you are really defending what Savior did? If you can't see the difference between sandbagging a few games (which imo is really lame, but fair) vs. arranging match-fixing at the highest level so some korean mobsters could make some money (and subsequently calling into question the integrity of every single match of the past few years), then I just don't have words for you.
EDIT: oh yeah, grats FXO! super cool pickup. Seems like you guys are making some really exciting moves. I'll be pulling for you guys in GSTL!

For those who are appalled at some of us wanting savior back, you should check out the BW General.
Truly an eye opener.

I'm not appauled, but the assocation of savior with any team, no matter how well he does or how good he is, is going to do reputational damage. Thats my business stance on it. Its a high risk investment that could potentially ruin you.. Those are the type i stay away from.

Koreans joining Foreign teams and competing in Foreign events.... What has happened? haha Starcraft 2 has completly switched the BW scene around, except the Korean players are still beating us in just about everything

I'd like to see what he can do in SC2. Matchfixing happens in every sport, it's just when the guys get caught that everyone makes a big deal of it. He doesn't have to compete in the GSL, though I'm curius whether any foreign tournaments like MLG or Dreamhack would allow him to play.

Best of luck to Twilight in FXO, it is a bit worrying that they're getting new players in the ranks before GSTL, FXO is lacking toss players in general though, so not a big surprise.

I'm not familiar with the player really, but congrats to FXO, from what I'm reading he is a solid pickup Good to see FXO actively scouting out the Korean scene for teamless players, we all know how deep the Korean ladder is in terms of talent.
|
This is pretty crazy news. FXO is very aggressive with their signings, I like it.

seems a good pickup if hes got experience of coaching, good move, with two people who speak Korean to help out toe begin with too, could be a valuable pickup!!
|
You might like FXO or you dont, but this is definantly a huge step int eh right direction for e-sports in general. I hope it works out and good luck in GSTL
|
This is awesome. So will we be seeing him on the FXOpen stream with the rest of you guys?
|
Grats to FXO!
As a casual SC2 follower, this is really exciting (GomTV, i guess you might end up getting a first time subscribtion from me for this GSTL)! I'm curious to see how this will work between international and a korean training mentality. My (totally prejudiced, not based on any first hand knowledge) impression is that the koreans have a very strict, authoritary hierachy that could potentially clash a little with western players' more relaxed attitude?
|
FXO is getting better and better....
|
Cool stuff
|
Will he be living and practicing with the team in the Gom house? I think this is fun and exciting news and I can't wait to see how he does. Congrats FXO on the new teammate.
|
Finally, theyre getting some players who won't simply get crushed. Maybe their first GSTL attempt won't be such a complete disappointment after all.
|
FXO is starting to become my favorite team just beacause you seem to do everything good :D

Congrats FXO, and good luck to FXOz

How many more players do you plan to add? Based on what criteria do you recruit more people, based on skill or races that your team needs? Or are you planning to snag players with skills to bolster your team?

As much as I hate going off topic. I think everyone deserves a second chance yeah what savior did was despicable. but look at michael vick he is doing great with his second chance. if he can get one why cant savior get one? Go FXOz!!! Cant wait to see you play!
|
Sweeeeeeeeeet news, congrats to FXO to be the 1st team to pick up a Korean hero! :D
|
Love it, Koreans are realizing there is more potential outside of Korea than it it for 95%+ of the players.
|
FXO = money+respect
lands you good players, and motivates them, and gives them room to grow
other companies in the scene enjoy collaborating with you so that you can get your players where they need to be, and thus earn more money+respect for yourself
and the cycle continues.
good luck to FXO, they're doing it right so far.
|
Can't wait to see some games from him in the GSTL~

FXO should pick up naniwa as well

Twilight is probably use to a pretty detailed military "strict" SC2 training schedule; where everything is planned out for him by the hour. Not "train whenever".
Didn't that happen with a different BW player? I forget his name, but he left to join a SC2 team in korea, but training and everything was different, too laid back and lacked structure, so he quit and went back to BW. I wish I remembered his name.
Now on top of that, in this situation, a general consensus is that EU and NA teams are even less intense than Korean teams, and training is not as crazy or "your whole life".
I wonder if FXO at this stage will have the right ingredients to keep Twilight in the group, or have him disappointed/ turned-off and leave. But the idea that koreans are interested in joining foreign teams is filled with all kinds of right lol. And is just awesome. I hope it all works out, and continues to happen in the future for other foreign teams.

1. It was a Protoss player, his name is eluding me at the moment. 2. Twilight played on fou first so it probably won't be a huge big difference.
EDIT: Did a quick search for "returns to BW" and found it. It's Guemchi from Woongjin.

Our training reigme although not "Strict" is OFTEN and ALOT. We are playing as much as the korean teams just due to the house not being ready in malaysia, we do not play in the same environment. Come september, the team will be the same as a korean team house, but with better standards.
We have spoken to twilight about all of your concerns and they are not a concern to him.

hoepfully more foreign teams will get in on some koreans and improve their skill level
|
I love FXO, seems like a really cool group of ppl
|
Wow I think FXO will soon be a pretty strong team! Nice job FXO. FXO keeps being the pioneer in so many things.
|
Awesome! Twilight obviously wasn't a top Korean but he's going to be a huge asset to FXO. Anyone that is in KR grandmaster and competed in GSL should be welcome on any foreign team :D

SecretfOu!!! Now *that* name I've seen before! On the ladder and I believe I've seen it at least once in the player listings during the GSTL.

I can't wait to hear Tasteosis screaming about that. "OMG Z IS ON THE ROPES, Z IS PULLING ALL HIS SCVS"
And I, as a German, will be totally puzzled:
"zhe vhwat is on zhe ropes? zhe vhwat???"
