There's actually an interview made by Josh Suth in wich KiWi says "I don't really need money".

He might be asking for a lot of money with another team or something, but I doubt he was a money whore with Root. I could be wrong tho.

That said it would have been awesome if he did post on root-gaming and stuff, it's very little to do to show that you're part of the team and communicates with the fans and everything.

I hope coL buying the team won't cause shit between Kiwi-Slush and the rest of the team tho.

Of course not, I am not trying to bm them or cause shit, Kiwi and Slush are 2 of my favorite people that I have met in Starcraft and we are good friends. Kiwi really believe in what we were trying to build with ROOT, but now that it isn't going to happen it was time to part ways, and that is ok.

Yes, I agree that he is the best NA Protoss and I am the biggest fan of his play and I think he is one of the smartest players out there. The problem is that KiWi already has money from poker and he doesn't need to treat the game as a business, he doesn't need to spend his time getting his name out there and marketing himself or streaming or anything. These things are really important to a big team that is going to spend a lot of money to have him play for them, and they are going to want him to make videos and do blogs and interviews and stream.

Ah, that makes sense.

I don't know Kiwi, and I think he is a great gamer. But he always struck me as the type of player that enjoyed, and could afford, a certain level of the freedom.

Yeah, that is a good way to put it, I think that's the main reason that Kiwi / Slush did not want to come to coL, and that is ok, we are still friends. But the rest of us in coL are going to be working very hard to live up to the complexity name ; )

I didn't say that he was asking for far too much money, theres lots of other players in fnatic/eg/TL/dignitas/mouz that make travel + good salaries and it is completely reasonable for kiwi to ask for as much as / more than their best players make, since he owned them all in ROOT CW's lol. The problem is that the players in fnatic / eg / TL / dignitas / mouz all have a bunch of deliverables in their contracts where they have to do things to promote their team and themselves, which kiwi has no desire / need to do :S

hmm... do all players have to do promotion and outreach to be worth the cash the teams are paying for them? I'm sure you have more expertise to the business side of things and the "worth" that teams get for players, but as far as I see, players like SeleCT and Jinro don't do all sorts of crazy outreach and are some of the most popular players around, which in turn make their teams some of the most popular around. Jinro does some streaming sure, SeleCT maybe does some interviews but for the most part they don't have to be posting on websites to be popular and a good investment to their team.

edit: i reread ur posts and misinterpreted your tone, so yeah.

Makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up.

I can understand that as good as Kiwi is, if he won't do anything to promote the team he's on, he's not as attractive for any team. At that point he really is more of a CW player than anything else and it's tough to gauge how much that's worth.

I'd love to hear Kiwi and Slush's view on the move tho and why they didn't get more involved to promote the team and help the team grow more and faster by doing more than just getting good results in CW and tournaments.

He doesn't seem interested in playing in offline tournies in Europe either which is pretty surprising. He doesn't have to take his SC2 career super seriously. Not how much he practices cause the results are there, but showing up to tournies and and getting involved in the community,

I remember once on catz stream he was asking trivia questions. He asked "What team would I join if I weren't in ROOT?". The correct answer? "I would never join a different team". In a way I'm a little disappointed even though I completely understand the situation.

Best wishes to you guys, the true fans will keep watching regardless of what team you're playing for. <3

I was a huge root fan, and I watched the complexity V nights with Joshy alot.. so this acquisition doesn't bother me too much, and I hope to see more of those cool behind the scenes videos and other cool content as a result. I will still camp these guys arrivals at MLG providence to buy them a beer at dave & busters.

If we get to see more extra content for the ROOT players with this move to Complexity, that's definitely a positive. You should also have more time to stream...

Also, if we see better results from you guys as a whole as a result of less managerial stress and more practice time, that'll be sick.

I could see Kiwi joining Team Dignitas, at one point in wc3, Kiwi and nani were both playing for u5/hoorai/mTw.

what does kiwi need a team for if he has money to pay for himself.

If he's as "rich" as people are saying, who cares about money? that's probably why he enjoyed being in ROOT, he didn't have any obligations except for wear the tag and play in the CWs.

Kiwi should join my team, i will remake United 5 / Hoorai / mTw and Kiwi can be the sponsor!

I always thought that a team wants in first place results. That their players get always top placements and so ofc a lot of invites to tournaments and ofc to stand there as a Top3 to represent their team and ofc their sponsors. Did this change? Is it now totaly ok to not reach any Top6 but have a stream with a lot of viewers? And i also thought players get their names out with results. Did this also change? Is the entertaining factor now more important then player results what in the end means...mhh skill?

Anyway gz to you getting to coL. As a european i have to say that col is one of the two american teams that had once a big name and dominated a szene. the other was made in brazil, if sb is asking now. So gl and i hope you can reach with col a dominant position like they had once in cs.

jason lake still masterhead of col?

Has anyone answered about the situation with the EG Master's cup? ROOT was doing really well in it and it'd be a shame not to see them finish as a whole. It's a fairly large prize as well.

i dont see why Col would go though all this trouble and not pick up the 2 best members (and arguably the only 2 good enough to do well in any tournies) of the team there must be some good offers in other teams in the mix for them. this all seems like too silly to come about from anything other then huge financial troubles on roots end.
