For example recently I saw optikzero who is apparently one of the stronger players on the FXO line-up and he relies on strategies such as 2 base Blink Stalker all-in This is the correct thing to do. It's better to prepare and practice before making such a large investment into going into Korea completely unprepared. We see stronger teams such as Dignitas not going to Korea, why would a weaker one go? Or it will mean you get left further behind. No one knows for sure, no one can even make an educated guess but this is the decision we've made. While something like NASL, weeks of stable and steady competition (much larger sample size) with big prize pool at the end, or a big tournament winning shows more of their current state. Again people act like there's a clear 'rule' for this kind of thing. The NASL is an event where you have a lot of preparation time before a known opponent. Smaller tournaments are based on your adaptability and on-the-spot decision making with regards to build, etc. just as much as your knowledge of your opponent. I feel the second scenario is more applicable to the GSTL unless you're being groomed as a sniper, as any player in a roster of 10+ players could pop out and you can't have prepared for them all so your adaptability and build choices are going to reflect those in a smaller tournament rather than something like NASL or GSL.

While I agree with most of your points, I also would like to add that in most cases the success in a smaller tournaments really depends on a player's raw mechanics, knowledge of the game, and perhaps most importantly, the state and shape of the player. That being said, a bigger tournament like NASL or TSL requires player not only have all the above traits, it also requires amble preparations toward maps, opponents, builds, and mind games. Setting like that meant to show all aspects of the players and is a better indication of where they're at in the scene. This is why going 0-7 in NASL doesn't bode well with QXC. If you can't do decently well with a setting like NASL, how can you expect decent things from a setting like GSTL, where most players are mechanically sounds already?

But that's not what's important. The important thing is that they're actually going to Korea, they're willing to try and hold their own against the Koreans because they want to improve. I have a great respect for that, much more so than the players too scared to go to Korea because the money's not as good. This is also why I like Jinro so much. He's losing and doing badly, but you know what? He's learning Korean, he's staying in the country and he's going to keep getting better. He's not leaving the country to beat lesser competition for better money, he's staying in Korea and he's sticking it out. So, props to FXO. I wish them the best of luck, and if they have the right mindset, they can improve ridiculously. But they'll need to work hard. If they can do that, if they can develop a strong practice schedule and if they don't chicken out of Korea after their first few embarassing losses ... people will start fearing the FXO boys.

Hopefully in the future we see Dignitas, mouz, fnatic go and compete also. then it will truly be the "Global" Star Team League.

Are you at least quite familiar with most of the FXO players who will be going to Korea? I certainly hope so, or I don't understand why you would feel a dagger through your heart when someone you barely know loses a game of starcraft.

If they could recruit 1-2 Star-players, I could definitely see them performing well (which is NOT LAST for GSTL-standards! ^^'), but with their current line-up, they will get totally stomped, if Sheth doesn't pull the team heavily...

These players are going to be training in korea too! Maybe they will be in more than one season and look at the difference that period of time made in jinro! They are the ones taking the leap! how can you even insinuate that dignitas should go. they can go! but they aren't because they don't have the commitment to the korean scene that FXO is demonstrating. Wasn't an FXO fan but now! wow im so proud of them and their manager this is great great great news. Can't wait to watch win or loose.
