The advice which really helped me was "Just play ladder to improve, it doesn't matter if you win or lose if you can learn from your mistakes and be better the next game."

So you never get the feeling that you are the fuckin man and owning 90% even though you are in diamond and technically ranked in the top 10 percent(or whatever percentage is diamond) dont get me wrong. the ladder is very good since it guarantees big progress as long as you play it. its just not a confidence booster in the same way as meeting total randoms.

You stop worrying about dumb cheese losses and other ladder fears once you do it, have it happen and just re-queue for the next game. How could you be afraid of the ladder? It's there to show you how good you are. Are you scared of the truth?

Also: Throwing in some cheese/fun builds helps a ton. If you spend two hours doing full out macro games, your mind will be exploded by the effort. Mothership or nuke rush. 6 rax. It doesn't matter. By making the game fun, and by playing more. Ladder Anxiety is effectively removed. The more games you play, the more chance that battle.net has to put you into the correct rank. Once you're at the correct rank, you will usually win more than you lose and as you get better (which you will if you keep playing), you will only move in an upwards direction.

It's different for each player, but if you play say...5 games a day 5 days a week, you will find that on the 3rd day or so, that you are looking forward to coming home and playing. Now, 5 games a day is a little over an hour at an average length of 20 minutes per match, some shorter some longer, which is easily manageable for even full time workers like myself. I totally relate with you. Anyone can make time to play a few ladder games a week and still be able to have fun, you just have to make it fun yourself, like you said, doing funny rushes and strategies that will lift your mood

It is a damn shame though that because of this fear they annihilated losses from play records. What's the point of playing if you never lose. If you can never see you're win ratio slowly growing higher.

alot of it is just not wanting to deal with it. I played 4 games today and went 2-2 lost a pvp cos my pvp sucks so hard. and lost to a 3rr but i was will polite about it an GG the 2 games i won. one was vs a terran who pushed at a stupid time with a handful of marines and marauders. I had my expo up, 4 gate and robo and had 1 immortal out. I rolled over his army, and then countered him and killed him and he just left. then i played a 30 mins game with a zerg. I forge expand and he attacked with alot of roaches early on. He took out both my cannons, but i lost little more then that. After that he didnt attack me again. I got on 4 base, 12 gateways, HT, and collosus, with +3 weapon upgrade. So i had collosus with range, templar with storm, archon, and blink and charge. I rolled over his army that was entirely roach and hydra, nearly all hydra so the storm and collusus did alot of damage. He raged hard. toss is op broken and i just a move - even though he'd seen my FF and use storm and make sure collosus were targeting hydra and engaging with about 8-10 stalkers from a different side to catch the roaches off guard. Why do people take this game so dam seriously? its all for fun. Whats the point in just cheesing people alot - i get alot of 6 pools, marine marauder scv all in, cannon rush. its just really anoying to have a community that has so many dickheads

I was having fun in Sc2 early on in the game, and i played with friends, i 1v1ed, i laddered, but eventually, the fun stopped. Thinking about it, i realised that the reason i stopped enjoying myself, was because sc2 felt like a chore, and that i couldn't enjoy it because i feared losing elo. I couldn't have fun because i would be nervous as soon as i queued that i might lose. I was only a silver leaguer in my time in starcraft, and i still love to watch the pros play, because i know what is good in the game, i just can't do it myself because of the fear of the ladder. Also in lower leagues there is a lot of cheese, I'd say 70-80% of 1v1s i played involved the enemy cheesing. The ladder fear ultimately stopped my enjoyment of sc2, and i can't figure out how to get back into the game again. (first post on TL) (Sorry for Essay)
