I dont think there is any problem with the current sc2 ladder I just think some people have anxiety issues like myself and they have to figure out their own way to cope.

On the other hand, for the game to be a sustainable proposition, custom games (aka "the way most people would naturally play") need to be a lot easier to deal with. Just my two cents.

The only way that I think the ladder is hurting SC2 is in the development of quality play. So many morons just play to win with coin flip all in builds that they do hundreds of times without any thought or deviation whatsoever, much less any attempt to understand the ins and outs of the game itself.

I guess the question is: do they make an unranked matchmaking system that still uses mmr and still adjusts mmr with the extent reason of offering peace and mind to those who are nervous or those who don't feel like they're in the zone or what-not. I could see it happen come the next expansion. No doubt they will have a big push for casual gamers in it.

I'd just like to encourage people who feel that fear, to just embrace it and go for it! The adrenaline is awesome (especially after that first win).

I had that issue before and now I regularly play on ladder. I broke through that fear by playing for fun and winning if I can. And to be honest, its working wonders. I used to be nervous, miscklicking and missing timings as well as forgetting buildings and upgrades. I went from gold to bronze bottom in a short time. This season, I started out Bronze again and now I am being pitched against high ranked gold (I am in Silver) and winning easily. I play 2-3 games per evening and then just relax doing other things and I quickly started to get hooked on ladder play. Although some might not like the removal of losses, it helped me stop worrying about win ratios and I am actually up to about 12 wins in a row. Hell, I even started posting some replays no matter the outcome although I haven't had a single loss yet this season just to expiate any fears and to welcome criticism.

For the average player that will never be in tournaments the ladder is the only way we have of measuring our progress as we get better. I deal with ladder anxiety a lot, but I was angry when Blizzard removed losses from my profile because now I can't accurately see how I am faring. Allowing people to turn this off is just more babying by Blizzard, if you want to play a competitive game, you should have to have some way of seeing where you rank, you can't make this optional. You pretty much covered what I wanted to say. One could also say that this ladder fear problem was close to non-existant in previous blizzard rts games where you could freely make a new account at your own whim when you felt that you've progressed enough to start at scratch with a clean slate and better game knowledge/mechanics. I don't think ladder is ruining starcraft. Far from it. Blizzard shouldn't be the ones catering to a vocal minority who can't even cope with their lack of self esteem. In fact players are free to play vs AI or even use the custom game search engine to find someone to play against if they are too scared/insecure to compete against equals on the mmr search engine. Edit: What truely ruins sc2 (imo) is the fact that the early game buildorders aren't hidden, terrible chat system, no clan support and the large ammount of crybabies who scream race imbalances because they refuse to adapt to the opponents army composition(or just have bad descision making/mechanics).

e:WC3 ladder and wow arenas (and you can fucking see your mmr in wow) felt really great and lightening making me feel good unlike SC2 ladder. I've played almost 500 ladder matches but the feeling remains same., dunno why.

![]() Let's not make this situation worse than it already has become please. There is no real reason to 'fear' the ladder...

playing wayy more custom games because of that ;_; On May 28 2011 01:54 eNtitY~ wrote: ![]() Let's not make this situation worse than it already has become please. There is no real reason to 'fear' the ladder... Fear is utmost irrational. Discussing it doesn't reliably help. And I'm pretty sure that pic above was only ment about game difficulty in single player :oh

If there was an easier way to present this to the masses, it might help solve some of those problems. The "fear" of hitting Find Match may be reduced if it didn't actually count towards anything.
