Removing losses was already huge step in making it more casual On another note: "Could people making these types of threads be hurting TL?" Haha well played man I actually would weigh in if you made that one On topic though there's supposed to be nerves and ladder, it shows you want to do well you get over it if you just grind out games and watch streams to better learn timings and builds.

If you just play alot of ladder you realize it doesn't matter and just try to get better. There are some shitty players in grandmasters so why do people care about the stupid rank...it doesn't matter at all. If you want to play you will play and if you don't you won't. How can someone be so scared of confrontation and competition in a game where you can immediately quit and block communication with someone while sitting in the comfort of your home...stop being a pussy because some people might press buttons better than you in a video game. If you think any of the top 200 players out of a pool of 500K-1million (no idea the actual number) are "shitty" then you are either: 1) on the same level as Nestea (obviously not) 2) delusional (probably) 3) trolling (probably not) The top 200 basketball players are in the NBA and while many of them are shitty compared to Kobe, you'd be an idiot to honestly believe that any of them are actually shitty basketball players compared to the rest of the world....

1. Put something real on the line when you play. Lose two games in a row? No beer for you tonight. Win three in a row? Treat yourself to your favourite food/whiskey/porn. Do this for a while. 2. Stop doing the above, and realise just how little you really care about some shiny pixels. Worked for me. Especially the whiskey and the porn. Eventually I had to start treating myself to games of starcraft if I managed not to watch any.

If the game didn't auto start, then people would join, see who their opponent is, and leave if they are not satisfied. Personally, I really like the idea of disabling ladder for people. I have plenty of friends in Diamond and Platinum who fear playing 1v1s because it would negatively effect their ranking. First real post btw. Thats the point, by doign these things you actully fix the system. Your claim is actully the current problem. Let me give you the run down I join 1v1 Xel Naga Caverns(Im master league) 2 seconds later a bronze league joins and the game auto starts. Obviously playing a bronze player is just ridiclous, so im either forced to wait for the gmae to load and auto leave. Or I can log out real quick and relog in. Both of these are so annoying that it makes nearly impossible to join a random public game and get a fair match. If the game doesnt auto start, I can make a game titled 1v1 Master T looking for Master Z. Then when ppl join I can quickly view their profile see if they are what im looking for and boot ppl til I get a master Z. Its easy and now I can play evenly matched public games without laddering and without having to leave 100 games before I finely get my master Z player.

Players can play 4vs4 without problem, they lose & win points there. So why do they suddenly have a problem with losing / winning points in 1vs1? Imho the problem is - people cannot deal with losses. They cannot accept that they themselves are the reason. In XvsX (X > 1) it's always "My team was bad", "What a noobie team". In custom games it's "Oh you have a higher rating - surely I was at a disadvantage. That wasnt a fair match". Or people go to the imbalance cries. "Void OP" "Lingspeed OP" "Banshee OP". "Your race is so easy" "My race is so hard". Some people are just like that. My friends & me like to play boardgames a lot. But we have one person in our group of friends - and he cannot lose. If we play Axis & Allies in the 2nd round (!) if the first round was lucky for his opponent "Oh I give up" "Oh you were lucky" "I can never win now". We talked to him, and he realizes that he's a bad sport. But the next time we play we see he is not enjoying the game, even though he doesnt try to complain to not annoy the rest. Solution? When he's around we only play "against the game" games. Where we win together or lose together. And I dont think any change will help people like that to enjoy ladder. And imho it doesnt need to.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Failing the inability to do the above, as someone mentioned earlier, introducing non ranked laddering would help the more anxious amongst us to enjoy the game. Wouldn't that feel a bit like condescension though? Here you go, have a ladder that isnt a ladder that doesnt show any of the worst of best parts of playing in online RTS competitive game.

I'm pretty sure the casuals do not care at all. At least I'd bet on it. "Ladder fear" is not a _Starcraft_ problem and you should start looking at the appropriate places to fix this "fear" issue. Frankly I do not even understand why would anyone would ever even let fear cross their minds before playing ladder, it's just shocking to me. Unless you're >Grandmaster, where laddering could potentially mean something.

This has nothing to do with the game and has more to do with the mindset of each player.Want a more relaxed experience? Play customs, go to the looking for game channel, play Income wars or co op against AI, team games. This happens with every competitive game, hell with everything you can have performance anxiety but its up to them to fix it themeselves. There is so much Blizzard and the community can do about it. Is it sad? Yeah, but this kind of stuff happened in BW and W3 and both games did well

I wouldn't say it's hurting the game, though. The game seems to be doing just fine.

A few weeks ago, after watching many matchups online, I had the itch to play again. I figured, what's the worse that can happen? I lose, so what. Must admit, I'm playing every night now and having fun. Lose some, win some. I like the ladders. Gives you something to aim for (getting out of Bronze for example). Adds to the fun/thrill of playing. Makes your matches seem to matter a bit more which is nice. My 2 cents. Edit: BTW, I did notice at one point that losses weren't shown. I thought that was weird but it dawned on me that it was simply brilliant. If you saw something like 27/121 you'd be all like hum.. am I that bad? But now it shows a positive note by saying 27 Wins! Maybe they could show losses in higher ladders, but for Bronze, keep the losses hidden for sure. It will help people fight the ladder fear. ![]()

That's my main fear for some reason in masters (even though im 750 points in) is that I will lose some random game, the system will bug or be stupid, and I'll get demoted and have to do it allllll over again. That's my fear, not about points.
