Once again the assholes ruin it for all. it is you who ruins it for everybody by leaving a game before it is finished.

No need to indulge those with irrational fears. what is to fear if the matches are unranked?... it would basically be like bnet finding someone around your skill level for you to custom with. no one has fear of playing customs

For example, killing someone in CoD "feels" like a victory that cannot be taken away from you, but winning a micro battle in SC2 and then proceeding to lose the game does not feel like there were any victories because you ultimately lost. I guess the logic behind it is that when you control one unit, you "are" that unit, and it's victories translate directly to your own, but in starcraft, no units are you, they are just your lackees.

What if they implemented a kind of anonymous way to play? Like you don't see the name of the person you are facing, and you can't interact with eachother. Its more like "Opponent is Terran/Protoss/Zerg/Random" - Then afterwards you might get to know whom you faced or not. I think alot of the fear is just about losing to another human being, taking it personal. If that personality was just down to how units move and behave, it might get some people to play for "real" later? Maybe this option only makes you face others that has tha option on, or something like that idk. Don't think Blizz will ever implement this but still.

You will never have a chance to avenge yourself on the ladder, chances are you'll never ever play the opponent again So playing in a 1vs1 environment is something some people dont enjoy. So what? A ton of others do enjoy this. Why would they want to avenge themself? If they're playing on a shooter on a pub server and the guy who killed them 5times in a row leaves the server. Do people also dont like that feeling, since they cannot get revenge? Or do they follow him to another server to get their revenge there? Or if they're playing a clanwar and demand a "re" and the other team says "no" are they angry? People cannot deal with losses when they dont have anything else to blame but themselves. Either people find something they can blame ("Race X is OP!!"; "ALLIN/Cheese !!!") or they learn how to deal with those losses. They could even see it as a valuable life lesson "You're not perfect at everything - sometimes other people are just better than you / know more about certain stuff - even when you think you're great".

You will either become a Bonjwa or a Bodybuilder. Nothing to lose, all to gain.

but that doesnt mean ladder is wrong. just that we either need nonladder matchmaking or a proper custom game system (hi named games so you can open "1v1 xelnaga mid gold for example) or the dirty route with multiple chars per acc.

For example, in a lot of Shooters and MOBA games it is a team based affair where you have the ability to say (or simply assume) that the loss was because your teammates didn't play well enough. However, if shooter games were 1v1 only, people would feel the exact same "ladder fear." This is better known as "nerves" and it's akin to the same thing that puts pro gamers on tilt. Sometimes, your brain just can't handle the responsibility of being in charge of everything. (Hence why some people are "born leaders" or have "nerves of steel") I know no one who gets ladder fear from doing 3v3 for example--although a lot of whining about the general skill level of it being lower than they'd like (I lost cause my ally was a noob! For example) What people are afraid of is not specifically 1v1, but of competition and responsibility. They call it ladder fear because it sounds better than "I'm afraid of responsibility" or "I'm afraid of competitive environments" or "I fall under pressure" It's not the ladder's fault that humans are born this way.

What you will have though with a non ladder matchmaking system is that you won't get the same level of play as in a ladder game. I had the same problem on the KGS (kiseido go server) or with play money poker, it's a different game when there's nothing to lose.
