Ladder is not the cause of the stress. Most people don't have the strength to be competitive that's all.

![]() I won't lie. As long as people still play casually with friends, go to events, and watch tourneys, it really doesn't matter. I still play SC2 every day- I just don't do the ladder. Stress :/

Other games let you have small victories regardless of the overall win/lose scenario. For example, killing someone in CoD "feels" like a victory that cannot be taken away from you, but winning a micro battle in SC2 and then proceeding to lose the game does not feel like there were any victories because you ultimately lost. I guess the logic behind it is that when you control one unit, you "are" that unit, and it's victories translate directly to your own, but in starcraft, no units are you, they are just your lackees. Very astute observation, that is probably the root of a lot of people's ladder anxiety. personally: i just fucking hate losing lol (you did not want to be on my old halo 3 team) SC is actually slightly less stressful for me in that respect because everything is my own fault. Just load up the rep and don't mess up the same way again

Perhaps they should add speech to all the achievements, and make the achievement notice only appear once but the speech will always be on(optional of course). Medivac voice: "Hot Pickup!"

sounds like the most retarded stuff i've ever heard of why would there be such a thing ? unless you are a top notch pro gamer nobody worldwide will give 2 shits about your ladder account and if you are i would venture a guess ... you don't have "ladder fear" ^^

If they're playing on a shooter on a pub server and the guy who killed them 5times in a row leaves the server. Do people also dont like that feeling, since they cannot get revenge? Or do they follow him to another server to get their revenge there? Or if they're playing a clanwar and demand a "re" and the other team says "no" are they angry? People cannot deal with losses when they dont have anything else to blame but themselves. Either people find something they can blame ("Race X is OP!!"; "ALLIN/Cheese !!!") or they learn how to deal with those losses. They could even see it as a valuable life lesson "You're not perfect at everything - sometimes other people are just better than you / know more about certain stuff - even when you think you're great". At mid-high masters (from my experience), you sometimes get to play the same person twice in a row, or even thrice in a row occasionally. I sometimes even play the same person some games later.

The result : I was greeted with 3 1-1-1's in a row. I think a big part of ladder anxiety is not wanting to play against certain builds because they are not fun / annoying / stressful. This is true for many people who PvP as well, I have had countless free pvp wins because people simply dislike this MU.

I've had several friends switch to LoL purely because of ladder and its sucked. LoL is a casual and free game so it really appeals to everyone. SC2 is a 60$ RTS and a super competitive game so it really only appeals to some.

Even more so, you start to see the same people every day, or every other day, or insert your random dosage of SCII here the highe ranked you get. I just played a guy on the ladder who I'm pretty sure I've played him for the past 3-4 months. I need to check my sc2gears... 6 games. First game we played was in March 2011. Apparently he beat me every time until today, where we had like a 40 minute macro game.

Especially now since the active players always seems to be under 1k when I'm online.. And most of that 1k (or so it seems) are Korean gosus.

i think sc2 should focus a lot on UMS games i dont know how popular they are in sc2 but in BW the RPGs, micro arenas, dodge the rapists, team micro challenges etc became ridiculously popular (and rightly so) if you have ladder fear then go play UMS games for 6 months, itll be a lot more fun and you'll make friends there too!

Sure it can be frustrating to lose, not play well etc, but fear of it? Meh, it sounds to me like people are taking the ladder too seriously instead of taking improvement seriously. The emphasis should be on improving, which I do actively try hard to do, but it's in custom games. Ladder is just pointless stress to me now.

![]() So that's my story I guess, once you've played your first 100 matches you start to get better and it's fun to see your own progress. Also there's nothing wrong with loosing, everybody does it and you learn from it. Like WhiteRa says: "More GG, more skill". P.S I guess it wouldn't hurt if blizzard included non-ranked matchmaking, which would probably help people with ladder fear. But at the same time that's what custom's are for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
