(P)HongUn – ‘I will make it to the round of 8 slowly but surely’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I am really thankful to BoongBBoong and AnnYeong for helping me practice. Lay out your clothes because we are going to eat out at a Chinese place.

- How did you prepare for today’s match?
I wasn’t under any huge pressure. There is no up and down even if I lost, so I didn’t think there was that much pressure to perform.

- You had to face Moon once again after the up and down.
I have been having problems recently with my mouse. It feels different in the stadium than it does at the practice house. It was hard to blink micro. I also came out with a strategy for both matches, and after they were blocked, I was a bit down on myself. Moon has been doing pretty well in foreign tournaments so he wasn’t an opponent that I could ignore. I saw his match against TLO this morning and it seemed that Moon played pretty well. So I came here today ready to accept whatever outcome.
- Did you do any research any into Moon’s play?
I tried to study zerg timings by watching replays. My plan was to hit my timings when zergs tended to be the weakest. I tried to stay away from stargate tech and focused on using warp gates. Because I am also thinking forward the next round.

- So you are looking at this tournament for the long term?
Yes. I think the round of 32 will be a tough challenge.

- Who do you want to face in the round of 32?
I am fine with whoever it is. I think I may have an easier time with a terran, since there is a recent trend of protosses losing to zergs, but even that is better than facing a mirror match.

- Your goals for this season?
I want advance slowly but surely. My goal is the round of 8. If I can fulfill that goal, I think that will be a giant step in the right direction.

- Is your condition ok?
I am ok now.

- Any last comments?
My father’s birthday is coming up, and so I am glad I could deliver the good news of me winning today. I will take this opportunity to wish him happy birthday, and I want to thank him for raising me. Some time ago I got a music box as a gift from one of my fans. I wanted to win in the team league and thank them in the interview but I could not. But I think that drove me to practice harder for this match so I could win and say thank you. I want to thank the Hyper clan and WangBamBbang (**KingNightBread?) family for cheering me on through battlenet.

(Z)RevivaL – ‘I was not satisfied with my play.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I am happy I advanced, but I was not satisfied with my play.

- What part of your play are you dissatisfied with?
I think I lost too many units unnecessarily. I was also a bit angry because in the first game, I felt like my opponent was taking me too lightly.

- When did you know you had won in the 1st set?
After I saw the battlecruisers I thought I would win. I saw that he had an expansion up in the gold base so I prepared for the long game. And since I didn’t really face cloaked banshees in practice, at first I was a bit panicked.

- The 2nd game went long.
I was angry at myself. I could have won even more decisively but I had many misses on my control today.

- You were pressured early in the 2nd game.
I had an inkling that something like that may happen. I shouldn’t have let him take position in front of my natural.

- When did you know you had won the 2nd set?
When the terran army was returning to the 2-o-clock position I was able to counter into an empty base. I knew I had won right there. However, I lost my mutalisks right after that which made the game play out harder for me.

- You are stuck in the preliminaries in the regular league.
I didn’t think I would be participating this time. When I found out that I was in, I thought to myself that this would be the ‘final chance.’

- Your goal for this season?
I want to win. But I am worried because my play has been so poor.

- Your next opponent in the round of 32 is HongUn.
As long as the maps are good, I am confident that I can win.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank my parents who always cheer me on. The coach, Fruitdealer, and Trickster came to cheer me on, telling me to play well. Thank you. I also want to thank all of my teammates who helped me practice.

(P)Ace – ‘I played the game with a clear mind.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I am really happy. I haven’t done interviews for so long that I had a lot to say for this one. But after winning this tough series, I have forgotten what I was going to say.

- Your record in the individual league has been pretty poor.
I lost 3 times in the round of 32 in code A. I tried not to think about it but after the second time, it has been difficult not to think about it. Especially since the 3rd time around, I was confident in my matchup against a zerg, so I am angry at myself in letting viOlet beat me. I tried to clear my mind today (of such matters), and I was play well today because of that.

- How did you prepare for today’s match?
I lost a lot to zergs on broadcasted matches so it may seem like I am bad against them, but it is my best matchup. I tried to practice with my teammates to keep my builds a secret, but my practice with other team’s players really helped out this time.

- You started out by losing the 1st set.
After losing the 1st set, I thought to myself, ‘I am going to lose 2:0.’ But I thought it would be really unfair to lose again here, so I regained my composure and played.

- The 3rd set was pretty close.
I usually practice for the late game so I usually have a plan ready to go in those stages of the game. I know I was in an unfavorable situation, but by keeping to the basics, eventually, luck also followed my way. I also think Fruitdealer had some mistakes. I think I was lucky today.

- Who do you want to face in the next round?
Of course I want Squirtle to advance. To be honest, I am not that good against terrans so I rather face Squirtle than Marineking, I joke here. But I know that only one of us will get to the round of 16 and I hope that Squirtle can advance today.

- Is it hard for you to play in the foreign tournaments at the same time?
It is difficult sometimes because the NASL matches happen every single week. And sometimes by splitting the importance of the games I have lost my matches. But I hope that I can do well in both the NASL and the Super Tournament.

- Your showing in the GSTL was a bit disappointing.
I thought I would win. My goal was to bring out MC. I won against him in the NASL so I was confident. I thought I had the game won but I got overeager and lost. I will play harder next time.

- Any last comments?
I have not had a chance to do interviews for a while. So many people have helped me practice during that time: fOu’s Sirius, Terious, and Lucky, IM’s Horror, my team’s July, Curious, Tandongho, and ChoongHwe all helped me practice. When one of our teammates wins a match we have been doing shots, but since we have been losing so much, we have recently only been just drinking beer than going home. I want to buy something tasty to celebrate today.
+ Show Spoiler +

Winner between
(P)Squirtle vs. (T)MarineKing
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)MarineKing –‘Today’s results are a reflection on the difference in practice.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I thought that Squirtle has a good reputation against terrans so I was thinking that it would be really tough. I won pretty easily today so I am happy.

- How did you prepare for the match?
I practiced so hard that it didn’t seem like it was just the round of 64. The builds I used today, I have practiced them over 200 times. Today’s results are just a refection upon that practice.

- What was your predicted score before the match?
I was confident on Metalopolis, and even if I had lost in the 2nd set I was also confident on crevasse so I thought I would advance today no matter what.

- Your play today was very aggressive.
Squirtle usually plays a pretty safe style so I predicted how he would play and played aggressively against it.

- Your next opponent is Ace
We have been pretty friendly ever since SCBW so I think it will be a fun game. I will win of course.

- Your toughest challenge in this tournament?
If I have to face HongUn in the round of 16, that may be pretty tough. However, I am confident in my matchup against protoss so I am not that worried. If I can make it to the round of 4, I predict that either MVP or MMA will advance there. I think either of them will be very difficult.

- Your goal for this season?
I want to win. If I can get past the semifinals, I am confident I can do it.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank oGs’s Inca, MC, and Hero for helping me practice. Also I want to thank TSL’s JYP (Smart), fOu’s Twilight, and my team’s Lotze as well. For today’s match, fOu’s Choya also helped me like it was his job, so I really want to thank him. I hope that he can get into the round of 32 in the super tournament.
+ Show Spoiler +

With that kind of dedication, MKP deserves that trophy. Jesus Christ. 200 games for ro64?

Oh, Revival. Uhhhhhh. Glad to know that you're disappointed with your own play! The first step is admitting you have a problem, after all ...

To be fair, he could be looking at Protosses until after the Round of 16, so it might definitely pay off.

Really sad FD lost, especially how he lost on the 3rd game.

Thank you for the translation.

MarineKing practicing a build 200 times for ro64, sheesh. I guess it showed, though. That build he did was more or less executed perfectly.

great stuff from MKP and his training will most likely pay off as his next opponent is toss and the one after probably too.

Refreshing attitude from MKP, you see far too much " I didn't really practice / try very hard before the match " from alot of these players.

So sad Moon and FD lost. Can't believe either Hongun or Revivial is going to make the Ro16. GJ MKP sending squirlte back to his pokeball.

Moon has been doing pretty well in foreign tournaments so he wasn’t an opponent that I could ignore. I saw his match against TLO this morning and it seemed that Moon played pretty well

HongUn watches the NASL!

I want to thank oGs’s Inca, MC

MC and MKP are good friends. They were teamates (MBC Hero) in BW.

I am really thankful to BoongBBoong and AnnYeong for helping me practice. Lay out your clothes because we are going to eat out at a Chinese place.

So sad that FD fall. He played really well in the 1st match.

I'm glad to see MKP practice hard with the best Protosses. He can be confident facing ACE and HongUn now.

10000 practice games for the silver medal sounds a bit sad.

Is it that common for so many players to practice with other teams though? It seems like none of the players even practiced with their teammates or that they didn't bother mentioning them because it was assumed. Maybe I'm just being over critical, but thanking my teammates seems more important.

I think you could say that players felt it more appropriate to thank those that help them because they helped you even if they weren't on the same team.

However, I think players give credit to everyone that helped them. It's not as if they have limited time with their answers.

Also, 'collaborations' like these aren't rare. Maybe they won't share replays across teams but the do practice player to player for upcoming match. Remember, these practices are different from 'regular' practices that happen mostly within a team.

A good amount of people lay out their clothes to wear the next day (usually to let some minor wrinkling fall out). He is telling them to lay their clothes out in preparation for going out to eat. I guess he expects them to dress differently since they are going to a Chinese restaurant than they normally would.

So MKP keeps like 2-3 accounts at the top of the korean ladder and still has time to practice 200 matches vs protoss against MC and such? Wow. That's dedication to a game.
