I guess it's an issue that more than one has occurred. In fact there was much talk of this quirk in the early beta, or when SC2 was about to arrive.
The sound effects appointed to the deaths of the units.
I clearly understand the mechanics and these aspects have to evolve over time, and I am glad that Blizzard is worried about it. The use of different sounds for each unit's death brings variety to the game.
However, in SC1, all units of the same type shared the same sound effect when they died, and that was a virtue. For spectators or commentators, was often an indication of who was winning a battle, or who was losing more units in that exchange. Was information.
For users played a psychological role in many occasions. When your army advanced to a showdown and you saw that death sound was repeated again and again, your brain automatically said "Ok, I'm losing a lot of units, time to back off." Or the opposite could happen of course.
Sometimes, if the battle was massive, you could tell if a key unit had died or not ... only with the appropriate sound.
Having a variety of sound effects create a richer experience or "realistic." I am not opposed to it, that's fine.
Moreover, for players or even the spectators and commentators, may be more enlightening always using the same effects.
If I had to decide this issue, I would like Blizzard add a tab in sound options, referring to: "All units of the same type share the same sound as death." One option that the player could turn on or off, so that the community was 100% happy with the solution.
What do you think?

I think this question is rather unimportant considering other things that there should be options for... But I always think that more options is better than less.

I'm not opposed to this either, but it will certainly be more bland.
Of course, if the sound for the ghost is always the bloodcurdling scream, it will still be mildly entertaining.

It's not up to me to decide what someone can want or not want in a game.
But honestly I didn't realize that some small death sound variation really mattered that much. The only noise I ever notice are DT's and Overlords anyway, because they are so distinct. Zerglings, for instance, well, you can barely hear them. Also, Hydras and Roaches always sound like they just blow up (kind of like when you get hit by a rocket in UT or Quake). Most mechanical units make a variation of an explosion; the only one that ever stood out to me was the Colossus because it's death is a bit more extravagant. Despite all that, the sounds I care about are not death sounds because you can't hear them unless you're on the battle anyway.
So, I don't really care either way because it wouldn't affect my game at all. It's not like I'm nitpicky about extra GUI.

I really don't understand what is the problem with having multiple death sounds. The argument here is "I'm hearing death sounds over and over again, might as well back off." Isn't this the same but with different sounds?
I keep hearing marine death sounds, maybe I should back off? Or I keep hearing my zealots disappear, maybe I should move my stalker army back since I have no more meat shields.
Really, its the same thing but with more variety.

Honestly, you're being way too nit picky.

Top players don't rely on sounds. Infact most of the practice w/o any game sound on. You should never be relying on the voices to alert you, you should be looking at the minimap constantly nullifying the death sounds anyways. And honestly, I am to focused to even notice what sound they are making when they die
|
I don't really see this as an issue. Top players won't need the sound to assess a skirmish. That being said, I'm all for adding options to customize your sc2, so I voted add.
|
The only sound you need in SC" is the Nydus Worm, the rest is shown at the scren/minimap

Just give me blue goo I don't really understand what you mean when you say everything in sc1 shared the same death noise. you mean like every marine dying sounds like every other marine dying?
|
I am not representing the idea of "If they change it I will play better " or "What is best for progamers. "
I would just like to know that you think would be best for the game in general, especially for spectators.

Immortals have blue goo.

In my opinion, multiple death sounds, is not the problem. The death sounds in SC2 are just too bland. Pretty much all of them is just some form of exploding sound. In BW the sounds were much more diverse, and as you said, could give you a lot of info.

Option 3: Have variety like now, but make them actually good like in BW
