+ Show Spoiler + Both players were making lots of lots of mistakes. San's decision making and especially army control was not too good. maybe it's nerves, but he definitely has to work on it. Good job anyways.

However, Artosis & Tasteless weren't being harsh. San wasn't very good. Open seasons, he choked hard or cheesed & chocked hard against any solid competition. It was very noticeable. He definitely wasn't up for handling the booth & it's been noticeable. What's changed is really straight forward: he's got no early game, so he plays insanely defensive through 8 minutes. That's why we're seeing a lot of units made pretty early for him. He's got the Sjow-problem for scouting. It's why the Code S group all cheesed him. MC had his entire main under siege before he sent his scouting probe. It was bad. With larger Maps, his glaring problem from previous GSLs isn't, along with some better builds. His Micro isn't top-notch enough to beat MC, or probably most other Code S Protoss, but his mid-game & late-game are very, very solid now. He's not a snarf anymore, but he definitely was against Check & Code S last season. It's good on him he's improved, but he's got a lot more work ahead if he wants to be a contender for a title.

In all seriousness though, + Show Spoiler [GSL Spoiler] + he may not be the best Protoss in the world, but he's 2-0 up right now against the guy who knocked out Tester. Respect given where it's earned.

If straight up macro games aren't indicators of skill, then I don't don't know what is. 1- Yep. 2- I know. 3- Me neither. What I wrote about "all these guys" were valid in previous seasons (I didn't watch hongun or anypro games because i just never do) but NesTea vs San or Check vs San were pretty damn good. That's what I said I don't know what the hell is going on in here. I really don't.

You on the other hand seem to have drawn a lot of conclusions from one bo3. Then there's the Check games. "Either way, silly mistakes cost him both games and it is fair that his reputation suffers a significant blow." Your words. Add a "as it should" to the end of that and we're fine. No season 3, season4 quick exit. Then legalmind. "3 games, 6 4 gates, fairly uneventful." So before this season he clearly did nothing to earn respect? My issue is the word "finally" in your title. Seems so misplaced. Like he's been doing well for a year but just hasn't gotten any respect. In fact he's only been doing really well lately. And he's been getting respect lately. What's this thread about again?:\ my point was not that he is the greatest protoss, or that his accomplishments are great. however he earned his way into code S as a top 32 player, and has been getting the bitbybit treatment which i feel is a little over the top considering his luck with allins and being in group of death 2 seasons in a row.

Didn't remember that it was San that did the infamous block-your-own-nexus-with-cannon trick. :D and he just pylon blocked a nexus in his match vs scfou... /facepalm + Show Spoiler + at least this time it was his 6th or 7th nexus of a pretty wild game, a little more forgivable

Even greater respect for him after taking the bo5 against sC in four long macro games, where. he kept expanding and harassing with templar tech. It was refreshing how he never went for the protoss deathball - in fact, I think he didn't even built a Colossus in the entire series

But this season, he's been pretty wicked awesome, and I like watching him play. I admit freely that I was unable to see his potential back then, and it still seems to me that this meteoric rise is some amazing feat of improvement, rather than just him getting his turn to shine. I could be wrong and he was always pretty good, but I sure as hell don't remember anything but disappointment and anger.

Though I do not know why he never transitioned into colossus when he had those 2 base leads. Probably because sC was applying almost constant pressure with MMM balls towards San, who was spending all his gas on Templar to survive the aggression and harass himself. I saw San's mineral bank jump up to over 1k several times during the games, yet his gas was consistently low. He just didn't have a good timing window to transition to any other tech aside from Templar, who were already doing a good job at repelling sC's attacks.

Maybe because he wasn't so worried about winning he was able to play his A game with no stress.

San has never been terrible but hes a mediocre player at best. I think a lot of his success this season has been due to the fact that everyone tried to avoid guys like MVP, Nestea and MC. Of course,, Nestea picked San since he expected an easy win because San's performance has been lackluster and probably underestimated him immensely. None of San's opponents have been the scary great names, except for Nestea and a lesser extent Boxer so after the group stage he hasnt really faced any of the favorites. I think San has what it takes to become a top player, but at the moment hes very sloppy and predictable. He barely deviated from his build at all in the match today against SC and used basically the same unit comp in all games, and he got lucky since SC did the same. I dont think the series today was as amazing as others thought. San is a smart player but hes still lacking in some areas. Anyway, reaching the top 4 is still a great achievement and no one expected him to do this well in the code S tournament, so obviously he deserves some respect. However, I dont think he can beat MC in the semis, and I'd personally find an MC vs July rematch in the finals more interesting and exciting than San vs anypro or July.
