And yeah they take up a lot of space, but I think they're designed to be brought up briefly to show info to spectators then taken down. Hence why good animations for turning them on/off is a good thing

There's something about the way they work that makes this kind fo thing hard I'm guessing.

I do remember Dustin Browder saying that these new tools are mainly aimed at broadcasters, and that the large size and "flashiness" of the new overlays are mainly to compensate for poor stream and video quality that some casters are forced to work with. I also remember a post a while back on TL suggesting the advantages of removing the bottom bar, and it's cool to see Blizzard do that. The old tools were great for casters, but not broadcasters, and it is great to see Blizzard adding these nice new features. I think they should tweak the UI with additional settings to display the minimap and possibly unit health/kills when the bottom bar is removed. This is already a great addition, but added customization would make the UI simply perfect.

That's deliberate. The main purpose of the big UI is to be clearly visible in low-res streams and youtube videos. They are supposed to be shown only temporary. I remember reading this in several Dustin Browder interviews. Edit: I was beaten to it, sorry!

But give the observers the option to hotkey things Blizzard. That would be even more awesome.

For lower resolutions they are so big that they overlap with supply and observer tabs.

They've just made everything bigger and doubled up on a lot of things. What he suggested would be far more useful, though I'm not saying all of what Blizz added was shit (having both min / gas / supplys and the names is good, everything else, esp. the tug of was bs can go).
