During high level games, would having a 3 second grace period after the loading screen effect the development of the game since the player is able to calmly and clearly identify their spot on the map and adjust their plans accordingly. This is oppose to starting the game right away with the rush to be mine as fast as possible, get a clean split and maximize early economy while then attempting to gain your bearings?
After you set your workers to harvest and build your next one there really isn't that much you do for a little. I know the pros like to spam but there's nothing you would have changed in the initial 30 seconds of the game because you know your starting location. I don't think getting your bearings sooner would affect anything tbh.

Let us relax god damnit, instead of playing the reflex/whack a weasel game :D As soon as the loading is done and players are ingame, lock their camera to the base, but allow mouse movement, and then have a 3 second cooldown!
I don't know about the other stuff, but this I agree with 100%. I can't say how many games I've played where everyone's loading bar is at 100%, but one person's is actually sitting at 99.9999% with one pixel empty for a good 20 nerve wracking seconds.
Some buffer time in between would be nice for sure once everyone has loaded in.

The second idea sounds awesome for a custom map.

Countdown would be good, I never liked having to stay vigilant the entire loading process in case the somebody's load bar jumps through the last 40% and the game starts right away and you're like "oh shit i thought i had another 10 seconds at least *click* *s* *click-drag* *right-click* *click-drag* *right-click* *click* *ctrl+5* *right-click* *ctrl+f5* *click* *ctrl+f6* *click *ctrl+f7* *55* *enter* *gl hf* *enter*" all in less than a minute.

the countdown before the game is useless anyway.
its like: countdown 3...2...1.. LOADING TIME !!!........................ start game
having the countdown at the beginning of the game, already seeing your buildings and mouse cursor would be so much better!

I love this idea, especially the training mode. I think this would be so much better for analyzing replays with a cocaster especially. No more one two three ok go.
Also would make training sessions with coaches a lot more efficient imho.
As to the 3 sec delay, i am a big fan, seeing as how i play on a laptop...

Countdown at the start of the game means that, as a random player, I don't have to mash the entire left side of my keyboard to build a worker.

LOL! never thought about that since I play with the grid setup, but reading your post just made me laugh in rl, guess i cant complain :D

hold ctrl+f1 , when game starts your workers will be auto selected for easy mining and the camera doesnt fly away
|
ur solution is pretty good. either tht or have the countdown in the loading screen after everyone has loaded and let us see where the mouse cursor is! I personally build a worker first then split so its pretty annoying having the cursor on the side of the screen and scrolling my view at the start.

The idea of training mode sounds like a great idea. It could be really cool for coaches to be able to show player where they should be look when they play.
|
First idea sounds great, and I can't see any good reason not to implement it except for possible technical/workload for blizzard reasons. The other one seems like a neat thing, but not essential.

My computer always lags like hell for the first 3 seconds the first game I play when I load up SC2. After that, it's flawless. Keep in mind this is a godmode PC for this game.
Shit's annoying and uncalled for. A 3-2-1 START! wouldn't kill anyone.
|
I love this idea.
I don't have a slow computer, actually the opposite. My screen is typically loaded first before anyone else and so I just sit waiting around. By the time the game starts I sometimes am unprepared because I've just been waiting for everyone else to load, and also have sometimes had issues with my screen wildly scrolling to the other side of the map when the game starts. Having 2-3 seconds in game before the time starts would be awesome in my opinion
|
Both are excellent ideas!
The first is rather self-explanatory if you have ever experienced lag when a game first starts. If you keep getting this lag then take a look at your replays. You should notice that you consistently move your workers later than people who do not get this lag.
The second would really help getting more people into SC2 MP. A lot of noobs have a hard time learning the ropes or knowing what they are doing wrong and will just give up on MP 1v1. I know I have friends like that and it would be great to teach them basic/advanced lessons this way.
|
I don't lag at the beginning of the game as I have a reasonable gaming setup but especially at LANs on my laptop, having the 3 seconds for the graphics card to buffer and stabilise would be awesome. As long as it was the same as an unpause graphic I would be fine with it. I don't really see how starting the split within .3 seconds as opposed to .5 seconds would affect gameplay balance so I'm all for it.

"I have trouble..." <-----notice the IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII in that sentence.....

Both are great ideas, especially the second one. I'd also like to be able to restart the game at any point in time while in "Training Mode".

Agreed with the idea. It happened to me more times than I care to remember: my cursor goes flying off to one side, because it's hidden during the loading screen. Not really a serious issue, but it's distracting. Haha, I just imagined having a Quake 3 announcer voice at the start of every game saying: "3... 2...1... FIGHT!"

those 1 or 2 seconds are not important. when i played wc3 ive even seen cases where progamers waited 3 seconds before they did their first action.
