I don't understand in the slightest.

Since when is running a youtube channel with ads ranking in thousands charitable? Not to mention the donation button, since when dose someone who gives "charity" to others accept donations? Stop mentioning how much "time" he is putting in to his work. You know what that is called? A Job. He makes more than almost anyone who posts on this forum for little more than being "funny".

Honestly I agree with the naysayers in this thread, the lack of actual talent in so many of the top casters is disturbing. Past your cookie cutter "youtube personality" that can be seen on ANY random channel not related to SC, there dose not seem to be a lot of knowledge or depth. Let alone real videos that help the community as in tutorials/behind the scenes at tournaments/lessons etc. Instead you get video after video of people talking in raised voices, screaming the same jokes, trying to make meme videos on a daily basis hoping it bites, music videos designed for what seems to be 13 year old girls.

There are so many good and talented people the SC2 community, it dose irk me a bit that Husky is at the top and has legions of people calling him "charitable". Lol.

Edit: I guess basically what I am trying to say is this:
Some of the top casters in my eyes, do not seem to be part of the SC2 community. They are just youtub'ers that would do anything that payed the bills. That is not in any way wrong, but should be recognized. Also, less phony youtube personality, more genuine content.

Thanks!

In Huskys defense, I dont think hes good enough to even know whats a bad map for zerg anyways. I guess his raging persona is to your phony uppity slightly homo personality? Both serve a purpose. But I have a feeling one is more authentic than the other

music video was well done considering the limited time and resources used to produce it. honestly one of the funniest starcraft videos i've seen but sadly it seems to be a little hit or miss with people understanding the humor behind it. or maybe they just don't like you... lol

As to your comment that his music videos are for 13 years old girls. ROFL. Do you have a personality? Do you have a sense of humor? Do you even realize what you just said? Yes the videos are like music videos that are designed for 13 years old girls. That is what people call a joke. You see... jokes can occur when people juxtapose ideas or themes are are different or opposite each other and put them together for a particular audience. This process has been utilized by say, every comedy ever. Have you ever seen SNL, or Southpark, or read Shakespeare?

The joke is that three not attractive males are singing about love with a man in a robot suit on the beach, and we all know (except you evidently) that there have been dozens of music videos of attractive males singing about love with human females on the beach before. Given that Husky's audience is mostly males ages 16-35, and the music music videos that came before his are for females ages 13-18, this juxtaposition of different/opposite ideas/themes becomes a joke. Jokes are funny, and laughter is healthy according to doctors, I've heard.

Man, you people have to stop hating on people just because they don't do exactly what you want them to do. Yes, husky is probably the most popular sc2 caster at the moment. No, he doesn't put a ton of analysis into his commentaries. Yes, he mostly just yells and speaks in an excited voice. Obviously you'd prefer he did things differently.

...but at the end of the day, husky's generated a ton of interest in sc2 from people who likely otherwise wouldn't have stuck with it-- maybe it was with one of his watchable and accessible casts, or maybe it was through something silly like the banelings video. If you're going to argue that having more eyes on pro sc2 games in any context is a bad thing, then we're on entirely different pages here.

oh, and people call him charitable because he's done a few charity events, most recently donating all of the revenue from the banelings video to charity.

Oh do me a favour and lose the troll act, some of us have been doing it way longer than you and we're much better at it.

Do you know the guy? No. When was the last time you spoke to him? Are you employed by the same company? Are you aware of what he does on a daily basis? Do you know how much he earns? Do you know how much money he plows into making fun content for no personal gain?

None of the above, of course.

So sit the fuck down and stick to what you're good at.

Yeah, so I'm defending my friend. Deal with it.. I won't have you slandering his good name in public without recourse.

edit : Noted, removed.

shut up retard. he doesnt give a rats ass about the community beyond the fact that theyre making him rich despite the fact that he has absolutely 0 noticeable talents.

if the tlaf guy hadnt been desperate to throw money at the community, and husky hadnt gotten in between those 2, he would be a nothing right now. good for him for 'making it' but dont act like anything about the whole thing is for the good of the community.

Everyone in this thread understands he gave part of his profits to a charity. Which just kind of shows he has the economic status to do so. I am somewhat interested if that was planned before, or a save face move after some of the drama. The extra viewers, being on the front page of youtube, begging for subscribers is all "profit" that isn't monetized. This has been overly discussed in this thread, every point I could make has already been brought up.

Not saying he is an evil person, he is just not the best candidate for most popular SC2 personality. He is not even top 10 =/.

Day9 is overrated imo. He always has that up and down fake voice and try to over analyze when shoutcasting. There's a difference between analyzing and addressing a game.

Artosis and Chill have always been the best SC commentators since Broodwar. They sound like sincere and serious nerds with a quite monotonous yet soothing voice.

Day9 fans are like underground music fans, they think their idol is the best only because they're "not famous" as other mainstreamers like HD and husky.

thx for judging me :D To be called a underground fan is kinda cool tho

Day9 is just imo the best shoutcaster out there cause he can hype 1 marine the same as 1 mothership. i think that is fun, and himn analyzing the crap out, i dont care, i even like it cause it makes me feel like i understand the game.

The reason people like Idra is the same reason people like artosis as a caster; he simply tells it how it is and does not sugar coat everything with bullshit. There is almost an inflated sense of politeness in this game it seems like, for instance why the hell should you say GG when a game was not a Good Game, the word loses its meaning. It is also the same reason we have so many complaints every week about how bad mannered artosis is for insulting players etc...

I could say husky is terrible at game sense has no talent and when compared to other popular casters, his analysis of games is non-existent and his audience is mostly newbies; or I could say husky does a good job spreading sc2 to a wider audience but in terms of depth and knowledge his casts are not as great as many other popular ones but his enthusiasm helps to make up for it. I am pretty much just saying the same thing but sugar coating it with bullshit in the second case and it disturbs me these kinds of statements seem par for the course in sc2. It is "ok" to criticize someone as long as you bullshit enough to make your statement not come across as negative.

For better or worse in this community you cannot be that blunt (unless you are chill or incontrol both of which I enjoy) and suffer no consequences, people can debate it but ultimately it is up to the TL staff how they run their website and if you want to post on it you should respect that it is their website and they can run it how they choose to. Is Idra wrong sometimes, or extremely bias? Yes. But I would much prefer someone like that to the passive aggressive statement husky made, an insult cloaked in bullshit.

Let's break this down!

Having the means to give significant amounts of money to charity doesn't really make the act noncharitable, does it?

On February 01 2011 16:23 gregnog wrote:

Man, speculation that paints people you don't like in a negative light is awesome. He's implied himself that he didn't plan on giving the proceeds to charity until he saw how popular it got, and that's really all we have to go on!

On February 01 2011 16:23 gregnog wrote:

Yeah, any caster benefits from getting attention. Not most profit in as literal a sense as husky, but I don't see why this is a problem, I don't think a major argument for his casting is that he's completely selfless or anything.

On February 01 2011 16:23 gregnog wrote:

That might be true, but here's the fact: he IS the most popular caster, and I think he's doing a pretty good job filling that position. Could someone else do it better? Probably. But it's not like we can just find the perfect candidate and just magically drop them into husky's place. And even if that were possible, there would still be hordes of people like you making angry posts about how your perfect caster doesn't deserve the attention he gets because he's making too much money or his analysis isn't good enough or any other of the dozens of reasons people seem to think up.

I feel like people are saying he's good or bad 'for the community' just to justify why they do or don't like him. I don't really think he's doing much for the community directly at all, myself. What he is doing though is successfully running the most popular SC2 channel on youtube, getting tens of thousands (or more!) of people to watch SC2 pro games that probably wouldn't otherwise, and he's managing to stay interesting to his viewers and generally just not fuck the whole thing up.

No matter who the one doing that IS-- Husky, HD, Day9, whoever, I'm happy it's happening.

(...and who knows, maybe HDH2 will start eventually and then he really WILL be doing something for the community! :3)

Nice try Endercraft. I read your previous posts in this thread and you are obviously personally insulted by anyone who dose not enjoy Husky as much as you do. Why did you even post?

Eiii, obviously he gave to a charity. Obviously Husky is not rich, and not a mega corporation. Just reminds me of the typical way you hear of charitable giving in the news. A company worth $5,000,000 writes a check to a charity for $1000, then wants to tell everyone about it. Or to be more exact, his fans want to tell everyone about it. Obviously I am just throwing around fake numbers, but that is the feeling I get. Especially since you mentioned he did it as an afterthought, after the popularity (backlash?) which I did not even know about.

Once again, this thread proves that fanboys (of any kind: husky fanboys, day9 fanboys, idra fanboys i this thread) suck, hard.

But of course, don't wanna go into that.

Didn't like the song too much. The video, however, is hilarious.
