And not just playing casual beside their normal lifes ?
No, this is all speculation.

yeah... iloveoov and boxer are just gonna play sc2 casually on the side... hahahaha. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? You think that is actually going to happen? Get real.

QFT.
Another aspect of them competing is that they are securing future coaching jobs or manager jobs for themselves. If they are going to coach or manage SC2 players, they need to know the game inside and out.
I expect Boxer and iloveoov to compete at least in the first year. Thereafter, they will be in a good position to obtain a coaching job.

I'm curious about whether or not they'll go pro in SC2. Very curious....

Of course Effort would have a SC2 account. He is not with broodwar anymore. I am sure he can afford 60 dollars for a SC2 copy and own noobie 1500+ Korean diamond players for casual entertainment while he decide what he will do for his future career.
Of course...if he really want some quick money, 85 grand in US dollars in fact, I suppose he wouldn't mind dedicating couple more months of his life to gaming...and walk away with the trophy.
Face it, if Effort REALLY want to play SC2 right now, I don't see anybody being able to stop him. This is a true S-class player we are talking about.
I just hope Boxer will enter GSL. GomTV is probably praying for that too. Their ticket sale is guaranteed to at least quadruple if Boxer/Nada/JulyZerg enter the fray.
Let's be honest here, old legends like Boxer reviving with SC2 may just be what e-sports really need right now. It needs an injection of the old timers' charm, charisma, creativity and giant fanbase.

It might not be confirmed but it's pretty practical to think so.
The bw season has just ended, and a lot of contracts are expiring. An old legend with incredible mechanics\game-sense (relative to GSL season 1 players, but not their BW opponents) can make lots of money against an easy field. They could also regain their popularity and get sponsorships if they make an impact.
GSL seems to be their best option.

Boxer Nada Iloveoov, some of my favourite players. Great news for sc2 not so great for broodwar

What? You prefer them to stay on benches and rot away instead?
Iloveoov isn't entering SC2 for sure. He has responsibility to the SKT terran line. I don't see what's stopping Boxer from entering SC2.
Fingers crossed for Boxer's revival. GomTV can count on my ticket purchase if Boxer gets into GSL.

This is actually of interest. Any word on what happened to SangHo? From the interview it sounded like he was most certainly interested in making the switch.

No its not, its idiotic. Especially since he said himself that he's not leaving BW for SC2 but for completely unrelated reasons outside of progaming in general. If its really him, yeah it means he can just casually tune in now and again and still whoop ass. Its your choice as to which outcome you choose to believe, but its one or the other. No other option exists, nor any argument that can be made.
|
To me it's pretty obvious Boxer is going to at least consider switching to SC2.
It puzzles me why people would think that progamers will always stick to the game they got known for and thus will never be able to enjoy another RTS. Whether you admit it or not, Boxer's role in BW is done. Most see him as some God that represents everything good about BW but you have to realise he's also a progamer and will play any game he can be competitive in. Part of the fun of playing is winning, and SC2 being less APM demanding gives a strategic mastermind as him a better shot at playing the top again. SC2 is also the upcoming game where there's a living to be made, while BW is (unfortunately) crumbling. As much as you might see it as betrayal, these guys have done nothing but play RTS games all their life. If (when) BW disappears they'll have no source of income. Even if he doesn't succeed at competing at the highest level, at least it gives him the option to be a coach on a new team (maybe SKT1 is preparing for SC2? We can dream).
Boxer is also one to please his fans, and what better place to do that than in a new uncharted game that's somehow reminiscent of BW It's not like SKT1 is going to let him play any televised games anywhere soon.

nub question, whats sc1 prizepool in the GSL compared to sc2?
