Plus you could imagine it like the wage for having a sales job anyway. Idra gets $24k/yr in a country with a lower cost of living than the US, and then he also gets to enter tournaments where he can potentially win big bucks to supplement his income. He got $2500 or so from IEM, and he's already on $500 or so from GSL. That's an extra $3k already.

dont forget eg will cover every expense when he goes to events

Korea has a lower cost of living than the US? That is news to me...

Lets not forget he's living the dream as well, getting paid to play video games . 2000 dollars a month is more than enough to cower your living expenses like rent, food, hygiene products etc. He should have plenty to spend on entertainment after all that.

$2k per month sounds good.

Here you go TL =)
Team-aAa : Hi Idra, how are you? How did your match go? It's not your first match in Korea but I believe it's your first on a stage here, how did it feel?
Greg "IdrA" Fields : Yeah, it's great it's the bigegst esports event I have ever seen, furthermore I played the opening match and I won it pretty easily. I'm very happy to be here.
Who's your most feared player and why?
Kim Won Gi, hiw nickname is Cool[fOu] from StarCraft 1, he's the best zerg player in Korea and I think ZvZ is my worst matchup. That makes him the most dangerous player for me.
What are your plans in South-Korea? How long do you want to stay here, what's your goal?
Thanks to the GSL I think Korea is the place to be for StarCraft 2 today, I'll stay here until this situation changes. I'm now a member of the american team EG and they support me for the GSL and several other international events.
How is everyday's life here? Do you live in a gaming house like some other korean players? What's your daily schedule?
These days it's quite erratic cause I live at tasteless's home until I get my own place. But next week I'll move to my own home and then I'll try to play StarCraft 2 as much as I can.
Do you also find some time to enjoy life in Seoul?
Yes, I make sure to relax because it's important, you can't play well if you don't relax from time to time.
What's missing in Europe to have the same kind of events and as many professionnal players as in Korea?
I'm not sure, when I was in Germany, the crowd was bigger than at the GSL. I think Europe was behind for StarCraft 1 but there is a real possibility for Europe to catch up its delay.
Do you know if any other European players plan to come in Korea? Who would you like to see here?
I'd like to see SarenS, he was a good StarCraft 1 player and he has performed very well so I think he has potential to succeed in Korea. I would also like to see Ret even if he didn't really achieve anything in StarCraft 2 yet, but he's as talented as anyone here. So if he's decides to focus he should be part of the best players. The East-European players Dimaga and WhiteRa are also good players, I'd like to see them in Korea and compete with Korean players.
Is it easy to practice with Korean players? Do you play custom games with them?
I don't practice with a lot of Korean players, I know five or six players I like to practice with, but they are also my opponents. Practicing with somebody would feel weird, so I mainly play Ladder games and custom games on US servers. It's easier for me to practice with players from TeamLiquid.
If you had to change something in the game what would that be?
I really think that when you look at the basics, the game looks great. There are a few balance details have to be fixed, but the core is really really good. If I had to change something I would remove the Multiple Building Selection and I would modify it because it will make macro to easy, even if it's fine today. This game has the potential to be huge in esports.
Last Word?
I want to thank everyone who watched the stream, I hope you will enjoy the GSL, they do it for the spectators so everything depends on you! Thanks for cheering on me!

Good choice. Grubby seems to be very happy with this team, although he's the only S-Player in their roster. The fact alone, that they could hold him for 1,5 years now shows how solid and stable EG is in their management etc. I would asume that this is the main motivator for Idra. He does'nt need a good SCII team. He just needs a robust organisation and appealing salary.

Europe is way more expensive cost of living wise than the US. Ever tried to buy a PS3 in Europe?

$2k a month with the current exchange rate is about 2.4 million won a month. If you don't have to pay rent and you don't own a car you can save about half of it.
Public transport, eating out, and other costs such as electricity, internet are very reasonable in SK.

Exactly this. EG doesn't need to invest in more than 1 top player since there are no rich team leagues to make money from. I predict IdrA will represent EG for a long time.

Wait a sec Incontrol do you actually care what random forum trolls think about your abilities. You know and lots of pros know that you have a solid team at EG and you guys have great players. Just keep up the great contributions to the community and continue to wreck some tournaments

Everyone knows that only Lzgamer is the weakest in EG's lineup!
