Regarding Idra: The Europe IEM event that happened last week was not part of the IEM World Championship Qualification process.
Idra is an American, living in Korea, and chose to play as an American. This means that he will need to do all of his official IEM Qualifying as an American.
I will have the post updated later today with more relevant information... including the dates and full schedule.
Thank you guys.. keep up the comments.. Good or bad!
If you have any specific questions, I will do my best to answer them.

It was the world challenge.

It wasn't for Europeans only. HuK and Artosis played too.

exactly. It was not part of the IEM World Championships that include Winners from several Countries. It was a BONUS!

Kiwikaki is his own worst enemy sometimes. He refuses to play in most tournaments and leagues such as the ITL. He has done nothing to help promote his name, instead just relies on the top players spreading his name for him.
HuK is anywhere and everywhere on the SC2 scene. HuK went from a no one to one of the most well known Protoss players in the world because he was willing to play in every tournament he could find time for, and has a much longer list of accomplishments because of it.
I know how good Kiwikaki is but he really needs to start playing in more events or he will just start fading into the shadow. Hell I tell him like four times a week he needs to start playing in the ITL so I can help him promote his name.

Gamescom was an invite event. It wasn't officially apart of any regional event. IEM Europe event starts much smaller in all the individual countries in Europe. Then they send players to IEM Europe Finals.
In the Americas we only have National ESL so there's really only one group doing the qualification.

I thought they said that MorroW got an automatic qualification bid to the IEM World Championship for winning? Maybe I misheard someone.

I could be wrong.. I apologize. I will confirm the meaning of the Gamecon event.

Read my comment above yours. Gamescom was a Global Challenge event so John meant it wasn't apart of the regional qualification process. It was basically a way for players to skip the regional qualification process and get a direct seat in the World Championships. MorroW earned his spot so IdrA has to go through the American qualification still.
|
Well, aren't we all spectators glad that IdrA didn't qualify directly since this means we get to see more of his games?
I'm no IdrA fan, but honestly, not seeing many good zergs in tournaments makes me want to cheer for IdrA since he can hold his line against the swarm of Terrans spawning left and right.
Also no Randoms?

yeah that part i didnt understand unless it was because there was no asian iem and you are allowed to play where you live as well. But he should be able to play in amercian tournaments for sure. As long as they have rules and are consistent with them I am fine with it. Plus i love watching idra play

Breakdown for everyone confused:
IEM Asia - (2-5 qualified players) IEM America - (2-5 qualified players - At NYC Comic Con) IEM Europe - (2-5 qualified players) Winners of Global Challenge - (Currently only Shanghai and Gamescom are challenges)
So all five the of the current events (IEM Asia, America, Europe and Global Challenges Shanghai and Gamescom) are the only ways to attend the World Championships.
Now I don't know for sure, I'm just guessing, but I bet there will be 16 players with something like 4 America, 5 Europe, 5 Asia and 2 Global Challenges. Those could all change if more Global Challenges are offered or if they reduce number of players to only 8-12 or something.

Updated the time of the broadcast. I did bad math, djWHEAT's show is at 2pm EST. I hope everyone can attended and it should be interesting to see who will play next week.

Drawing is happening soon.
