I'm playing against green tea AI 0.48 using scallin1 launcher. Everything has been working great until yesterday when I started to get this message after I leaved the game.
![[image loading]](http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/4944/trojanf.jpg)
I have scanned my computer two times now using Avira AntiVir and havent found anything. I have also googled some info about this trojan and I can't find any files or programs running associated with it.
Does anyone else has this happened to them? Is my SC2 overreacting to something or is this trojan so sneaky that only SC2 can find it? :O
|
Man Blizzard made SC2 an anti-virus program too. Still no chat channels though =P
|
What happens when you click More Information?
|
|
is this for realz?
|
after a quick google on the virus name it seems like a lot of wow players has experienced it aswell, some reported that downloading the program "A Squared" and running a scan fixed it.
|
it's one of two things
you have a trojan on your computer and your bad virus scanners can't find it this stuff is directly ported from wow i assume, their "warden" thing.
or
it's a false positive. im betting it's the first thing however.
you should use the Chinese launcher anyway. it's better and not bloated to hell
|
Haha, oh wow. Blizzard, you so randum.

I guess I should try another AV just to be sure. Just my luck, I haven't even played the trial wow and I still get wow trojans bah.

Pretty much. I don't agree with how Blizzard is spending their time.

Even though I want chat channels too but I can't see how this is a bad thing? It's not like they were in a meeting discussing that shall there be AV ability or chat channels and chat channels lost.
This trojan directly affects blizzard games so I would say its a good thing
|
I guess it detects that some bs .dll has been injected into the sc2.exe process? Probably not a trojan but blizzard obviously won't have any of that.
You could just go to http://www.virustotal.com/ and upload that pirated launcher. Did you download that thing from some mysterious russian website with 1995 web design?
|
its the scallin1 what most of the people is using playing AI. I downloaded it from the sc2.nibbits.com so it should be "legit". I have been using that since the beta went down and yesterday was the first day it started to complain
I downloaded the A-Squared free and running the scan now and its already found that freakin' trojan :o I'm going to let it finish anyways

it's ported directly from wow. i doubt it took any time at all and they probably have a separate team that update Warden.

Stop conplaining about the chat channel, Blizzard said it will be a patch for a chat channel but you wont be able to have it at the release of the game

if it's saying it's the launcher. it's more than likely a false positive.
virus scanners detect a virus in 2 ways that i know of 1 is matching the footprint of the virus. the other is to simply identify certain sections of code that CAN be malicious.
stuff like launchers and loaders generally use dll hooks and other types of functions to do what they do and that looks malicious to a virus scanner (or warden, warden will likely flag this stuff as bad since 3rd party software is against blizzards ToS)
|
I think its become a contest now of who can derail more threads into chat channel QQ.
Piski, if you have a smartphone I would suggest getting an authenticator attached to your bnet account. That way even if there is a trojan that you don't find you're relatively safe.
|
I like the fact that it says "it may compromise the security of your computer AND JEOPARDIZE YOUR ABILITY TO PLAY SCII OMG!!!!"
as in: screw the computer, you won't be able to play !
|
This might be an indication that blizzard are making good efforts in keeping sc2 hack free though.
|
|
It's in Blizzard's best interest to keep SC2 as hack/trojan-free as possible. You'd be surprised at how much manpower Blizzard has to hire for WoW customer support just to help customers who lose their account due to trojans.
|
This was completely unexpected
|
Not only the sheer amount of customer, support, but the amount of time and effort they have to throw into anti-phishing and things like that as well.
And I don't know how well circulated this is in the starcraft community, but right now on WoW the biggest flaw that is being seen is that there is some loophole in Flash (I am computer savvy but I haven't gotten a chance to read up on it fully,) and it is allowing people to be logged, and their WoW accounts are being hacked as well.
It's a pretty big deal as of right now, and if it isn't resolved soon, I suggest making sure when you are playing SC2 beta, you are ONLY playing the sc2 beta, turn any Flash based programs off in the background and steer clear of the embedded players as well. I have had a handful of friends have their wow accounts hacked because of these problems in just a short amount of time.
|
I'm amazed but not surprised some people actually put an anti-blizzard spin on this.
|
Hahaha, basically it says "if you don't do anything your computer will fuck up and therefor you won't be able to play SC anymore."
|

No, the trojan is designed to steal your battle.net account. Playing SC2/WoW is most likely the only thing that's in danger. Correct me if I'm wrong.
|
I downloaded A-Squared free and scanned my comp. It found that trojan in my appdata folder and I deleted it. After this I checked my startup programs in using regedit and found that this trojan automatically started with my computer so I deleted that entry too. For now SC2 isn't complaining about it anymore so I hope its gone yey x)
Some people have even managed to complain about blizzard regarding this which I dont get. I was using firewall and a Avira antivirus program and I thought I was relatively safe but if sc2 wouldnt have finded it and this would have been an retail copy I could have had my account taken. So I dont really see how this ability is a bad thing, come on seriously.
It wasnt the launcher so I dont know I this trojan came to my computer but I hope it's gone now. Thanks for the help
Joey.rumz ye thanks I'll try to keep that in mind x)

It really depends on how it is implemented. Antivirus tools can conflict with each other, SC2 should not really be accessing anything but the game files, and if it scans while you are playing it means a hit on game performance. Also if the game does scan your files it should explicitly and visibly tell you about it. Meaning: not just somewhere in the TOS, and not just saying "may access some files". If SC2 is only detecting if a virus is actively trying to access SC2 then I don't have any complaints I guess.
I would appreciate it more if Blizzard was actively cooperating with producers of antivirus tools to help keep their definitions/scan algorithms up to date.
I don't mean to say that this is an entirely bad thing. The intentions definitely seem good, and overall it probably still is a good thing despite the concerns.
