Haha. I mean, that sucks as well. But I mean beyond not being able to see the dot, there was no audio cue "Nuclear Launch Detected" which is even worse than not being able to see the dot.

As long as u know its going to land somewhere u can move all the important stuff. = (

If you think that you being red is mainly the problem you can always change your team color settings to green/red rather than the default.

I've always tried to put my nukes right on the health display, since most players have that option set to on all the time

It does, or at least it did. Not sure if they fixed that.


They did in a way. If you press spacebar after the "nuclear launch detected" goes off it won't center on the nuke.

However, if your ghost attacked something before the warning went off then it WILL center on that most recent attack.

I'm not sure if it's a bug, or just poor design on Blizzards part. Only one sound file will play at any given time, they will not overlap. So if you get attacked immediately after the nuke is launched, the nuclear launch detected message is overridden by your forces are under attack. Perhaps blizzard should implement a message priority or something, because knowing that a nuke is on the way is too important to miss.

I can confirm this as well. Playing a 2on2 on scorched haven and I didn't get any warning that I was about to get nuked. Watched the replay and it was because his ally was void ray harassing and this set the "our forces are under attack" macro whilst the nuke went undetected.

Maybe increasing the number of sound channels solves this?

wow that dot is actually small, i remember it being much bigger, and i think i was on medium settings at the time. when i first saw the dot i was like "LOL how can anyone miss that big ass dot"

Wow, I didn't realize you could override the nuke warning. I wonder if nydus roar could similarly be overridden by suiciding a speedling into his mineral line at just the right time. I bet they are programmatically the same.

Extending this line of thought even further, I wonder of a nuclear warning could be overriden by a Nydus worm scream in 2v2 (probably easiest to accomplish in terms of timing)...

I've had both of these bugs. I rarely can see the dot's at all, ever, because I play on low. Certain maps make this a nightmare because of Ghosts having long enough range to hit your natural from high or low ground or across a gap. It's happens without warning a lot too, this occurs less than 50% of the time, where the red dot problem occurs 90% of the time. I think the only time I see it is when it's in the open or the middle of a blue colored building. Anyway, if someone starts nuking me I have to scout it before hand and go all-in hard to win because the chances of me defending nukes is so low. Another problems is cloaked units like ghosts/dt/obs/banshees don't make a moving blur like in BW ,so without detection they can walk right through your screen and you can't see them.
So to review, the ghost is completely invisible without detection, no red dot whatsoever, and 50% of the time no Nuclear Launch warning. Funny thing is I'm still able to stop it sometimes, and I'm getting better and better about instinctively knowing where to scan or obs and catch them nuking. Guess it's helped me develop a 6th sense.

Ahh, well that would explain a few rather confusing nukes I've suffered.

In any case, it's pretty much 100% confirmed this is a bug, given the disparity between light settings.


Another problems is cloaked units like ghosts/dt/obs/banshees don't make a moving blur like in BW ,so without detection they can walk right through your screen and you can't see them.

This is untrue. I know for sure they make a blur with the settings I use (a mix or medium high and ultra).

One time i got nuked on an indent on my infestor, looked around my WHOLE BASE and ALL MY EXPOS for 20 seconds AFTER looking at my army (not seeing it)

Went back to the replay, it bleneded in with my infestors side spike looking thing

I had this happen with my nexus once, very very annoying. If you are not a just the right angle the dot will be hidden.

EDIT: Also, there have been multiple occasions where I have received NO nuclear launch detected sound, extremely extremely annoying.

I quite often turn the camera and put my nuked behind the hatch or my target building. I never actually tested if the enemy can see it or not, but I do get drone kills often. Not sure if it gets hidden or I just get lucky that they don't see it.
