Hey
The minimum auto repeat delay (the time before a key begins to be sent repeatedly after it was hold down) that can be set through the control panel in Windows 7 is 250ms.
I would prefer something around 80-100ms for Starcraft.
Is decreasing it considered cheating? Is this allowed in competitions?
There are multiple ways to do it.
I read that some OmniKey keyboards support it on hardware level.
If you enable filter keys (holding down shift for 8 seconds on default), it can be set to any ammount of ms, through the registry, my problem with this is that keys tend to get stuck in Starcraft when filter keys are enabled (very annoying for modifier keys).
The most convenient way would be to set up a custom keyboard hook that would do this for me, the question is whether or not this is considered fair.
I read that players can bring their own keyboards to competitions, although I suppose macros are forbidden.
But what about this?
Thank you very much

I have no idea how to do this, But i'm vurious as to whyyou want to do this? Are you just trying to raise your APM by holding a key down? Or is there a different reason for this that i'm not seeing.

I think one place where it could be useful, is if u are macroing as zerg on 4 bases and have just gotten all your inject larva out. And want to make a shitton of hydra/roach/whatever. Instead of spamming: S,h,h,h,h,h,h,h,h,h,h,h. You could do: S,HHHHHHHHHHHH. (if that makes sense lol)

I want to do this because I can press a key on my keyboard twice in roughly 80ms. Therefore, when I want to make a unit and am just a tiny amount short of resources, it's not obvious whether I should spam the key or just hold it down. If I get enough resources within 250ms, spamming would get to make the unit quicker, but if it's above 250ms, holding down the key is likely faster since even the default auto repeat rate is below 40ms. So decreasing this value to 80 should help me make units just a tiny tiny bit faster on average.

Yeah, it could also be useful for that. Although if you only want to make a specific amount of a certain unit, this greatly increases the chance to %@#$ it up ;P (it's easy to hold down a key for 80ms accidentally if you don't pay attention)

Blizzard should just implement a system for producing units wherein it fills up all available queue or uses up all available larva when you hold the production hotkey down.

Agreed. Though I think a modifier like shift+hotkey would be more reliable.

Still wouldn't solve the problem entirely. Say you're terran and you have 10 barracks, 4 with tech labs and 6 with reactors. If you want to queue up 4 marauders and 12 marines, unless you happen to have between 1000 and 1049 minerals you can't do it the way you're suggesting (you'd queue up too many marines) and regardless you have to manually input the 4 marauders unless you have between 100 and 124 gas.

This doesn't answer your question, but it's kinda related... Not that it's going to make much of a difference, but I spam my drone key and click the icon at the same time on my first few drones to get it out as fast as possible. I started doing this because my internet was slow and spamming a key 10 times might only result in 5 hits to the server so I began to do this.
