I finally acquired a beta key yesterday. I'm pretty bad at it honestly. I've been looking around for some build orders and of course Teamliquid is where I started. Problem is there really are not many solid builds posted here or anywhere else. So first I would like to invite all the platinum players to help support the starcraft2 liquipedia http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Main_Page
The BW liquipedia was a priceless resource to me and I hope it's sequel will live up to the original.(And yes i realize the first one has been a decade of work so I don't expect Rome to be built overnight)
Please include detailed build orders, replays and crucial decision making. Such as when to expand, push, cut probes, adding extra gateways, tech switching, unit compositions. I am learning this stuff on my own but there are times when I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong or how to improve my efficiency. I don't want to get too in depth with my own struggles to improve, as the point of this post is to encourage the many great players out there to help improve the resources available to everyone.(Which will slow down the rate at which noobs like me post questions) So if your feeling generous with your time. help out! It will be appreciated.

I'd also like to bring up another point while I have a chance,(as I expect to be banned as usual for posting this) ,but the search on TL could use some improvement. It seems to either generate 0 results or every topic in the forum. I have made posts in the past that I was banned for and told to not be lazy and research (which I did) I searched the forums manually, checked other sites, looked on blizzards site and I often end up with contradicting answers to my questions. I guess I'm just asking for a little tolerance of noobiness, I predict you'll be needing it, as SC2 will certainly bring an enormous influx of noobs to the scene. I love you Teamliquid but why do you hate me lolz!

It's beta...

Edit: The reason why liquipedia doesn't have any solid concrete builds for sc2 is because every week, a patch could come out and make it obsolete. Comparing liquipedia 2 to liquipedia BW is stupid at this stage. Just play the game and learn on your own for now.

Why is it that when noobs use the search function they never get results but when non-noobs use the search function they find stuff easily?

Sometime in the next couple of years, someone will post a good strategy article on liquipedia II and then people can read that. Until then, just try to practice on your own I suppose.

It should be inviting to noobs, but still hold to it's high expectations for posting. The battle.net forums are already filled with enough QQing and spam. We don't need it here. Using google and putting "site:teamliquid.net" in your search might help you out with searching the site.

nTooMuch you dont think it will be easy to just edit and modify anything that becomes less viable?

reborn8u you dont think people actually put a lot of time into creating these builds and then transferring it to the wiki to help people like you out only to be trumped by a patch or development of metagame(sorry nony)?

watch some streams...play the game..and have fun with your new beta key

Good point smore, I usually either get rolled over or roll over my opponent not many close games. I'm just not even sure what a "standard build order" is in the various matchups. But I will keep playing and hopefully i can reach these answers on my own. Funny after i say that and try to get on beta there is patch 9 wow, Defragged my cpu last night took 8 hours so I couldnt play, so i spent the time looking for builds (80% fragmented!!) trying to get beta to run a little better.

I'm in the exact same position as you are haha. I just got my beta key yesterday and I honestly have no idea where to start I don't even have a direction to be pointed towards. Please if theres any information I can use to learn about the game a bit more it would be welcomed as I'm running around like a chicken without a head at the moment. I played about 60 games so far none of which lasted longer than 10 minutes with the exception of a select few and I just need SOME guidance as to what to make.

One problem with the strategy in wiki2 is that many of the strategies are evolving very quickly. When wiki1 was made, we already had years of sc:bw played as examples of what strategies were memorable or viable. Most of the replies here sum it up pretty well.

Regarding editing strategies as they become more/less viable, it just seems to be a headache during the beta stage. To qualify as "viable", there must be a good amount of supporting evidence. Then if we want to modify the page to be classified as more/less viable based on the current patch, we need more evidence to prove that.
+ Show Spoiler [Imagine] +
mikeymoo's build: viable in:
patch 1
patch 2
patch 5
moderately okay in:
patch 3
patch 6
bad in:
patch 4
etc.
I would rather wait until the game is more established. Also, many of the current staff members do not have machines that will run SC2. It is difficult to approve edits if you don't know what's going on in the game. That's why I stick mainly to sc:bw when I approve edits.

I watch orb a lot, i can copy builds but its kind of the thought process I need to work on, the build order is just a starting point which allows me to get to mid game comfortably i guess.....
o btw my cpu is WAY to slow for beta but it still runs well enough to play, 1 gb mem, 1.3 ghz duel core lol and no video card (it just pulls memory from ram)
But i do see the problem with the liqui and the patches undoing your builds.
I honestly didn't think the patches were severe enough changes(with a few exceptions) to make such a big difference, I obviously have a lot to learn.

Basically since its Beta TL doesn't want to commit to putting up a build that turns out to suck after Retail hits, and I completely agree. Unfortunately though this means that lower-end players will need to spend a long time scrounging about the forum to find builds. I'd recommend starting the SC2 Strategy forum, and then do a general search something like: Terran Build Order if you play Terran.

actually i got a pm from snace offering some help, I think just having the "safe or standard" builds would be sufficient but yea the game is evolving fast! much faster than the zerg did in the last 10 years lol

Im pretty noob, but if you are "too inviting" like they were before the April ban hammer rules came to the SC2 forums, you just get a bunch of retards posting retarded threads and arguing over spilt milk instead of reading something decent and constructive.
SC1 - Horrible, SC2beta - im less bad

TL should be more inviting to noobs that show that they actually have brain and that in some point of time they will stop being noobs and learn something to do properly. So i don't know what to give my vote to...

I am a noob getting into SC2 after years of playing WoW with casual RTS experience sitting in bronze (and improving). I discovered teamliquid after getting into beta so I am new here too.

I relate what I expect out of the teamliquid community the same thing I expected out of the elitistjerks for WoW. Top players having in depth conversations about the mechanics of the game. A place where optimal strats and play styles are uncovered.

I like that the forums are uninviting to the average new player. You want the new player to understand the game before they come here and post. Many of the posts that you crack down on belong on Blizzards forums anyway. These people have a place to post garbage. Some people are use to how lax Blizzard moderates and feel put off when they get to a real forum like this.

On that same note, it would not hurt to have a "[G] Getting started with SCII" stickied at the top of one of the forums. Have it list a few common builds and link to the threads talking about each unit. This does not have to be the proven stuff that you want in liquipedia. Just something as a first step for players like me.

One other thing you may want to consider as beta opens up to more people and as it gets closer to release is to not allow new member to post a new threat for 4-7 days after registering. It gives them time to get a feel for how the community interacts. You may do this already for all I know. I have yet to start a new thread.
There is no shame in defeat so long as the spirit is unconquered.
