There's certainly lots of them who won't even read this until Monday, and they don't have this sense of solidarity towards TL which would make them regret it if noone got a key. Also, there was already a wave of keys given to deserving new posters. I believe the list that Hot_Bid is using is from this http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=119965¤tpage=2 Now, this list does not contain everyone who self-nominated. Kennigit did specify that self-nominations were completely legit, if you thought you were deserving. So it ticked me off that all these undeserving people (mainly "everyone with <50 posts", as you say) self nominated. Of course you could have more posts and still be undeserving, so I tried to include those people too. The problem, however, is that I don't know everyone and what they've done, where they've helped out, stuff like that, so that's why I added that blurb at the top of my post. Anyways, I think it's completely fair that everyone with <50 posts remain on that list, because that's what that list is about. Again, I apologize for any self-nominees that were caught in my line of fire.

TL gets 50 keys to distribute to the community, and needs to make sure that those keys get to the people who will use them well, so that is where the decision arises. The old-timers have contributed, and are probably the most reliable bunch when it comes down to using the keys well and contributing in the future. And it's not the member's job to point out who's the most deserving. Many will act just like most TL members acted when they got their key, by being selfish. Why ridicule those who nominated themselves when they're just doing what most people did -- the equivalent of getting a key from blizzard and not giving it to someone more deserving? When TL gives the community the task of nominating deserving people for beta beys, then it does become the member's job to nominate. If nobody nominated deserving people, there would be no candidates! In order to be able to Opt-in for a SC2 key through Blizzard, you must be part of the community, and contribute to Blizzard by buying a game. Should the same not apply for TL? Why should someone who has not contributed anything or participated in the community get a key from TL?

Why should someone who has not contributed anything or participated in the community get a key from TL? Going back to the original example. Let's say Blizzard (or TL) had given out keys to select opt-inners (nominees) and then asked them to keep the keys if they think they're deserving or give them to people who are. You think they would honor that task? Would you? There's no difference. Opting in is like nominating yourself. Whether or not the task of selecting someone deserving is mentioned is irrelevent as few would obey it, at least if there's no public name calling -- there is here though. And I never said someone who never contributed anything should get a key from TL, I said they shouldn't be ridiculed.
