What are you, 21-25ish? Act your age. Grow up. Man up. Move on. You know what you did was stupid and immature, quit making yourself look worse by responding with meaningless crap like that. Snap out of it... that's just embarrassing behavior. I don't know a thing about you, had no opinion on you, but you should know that when you put yourself out there your reputation really does matter, whether or not you are aware/admit it.

This is really ignorant. As a white person, you have no idea how historical memory works. You think that Jews today don't understand the devastation of the Holocaust? Or that Koreans don't understand the humiliation that came with Japanese colonization?
Historical memory gets transmitted from generation to generation. It's a critical part of cultural identity.

I understand and agree with both sides of this argument. The thing that bothers me is inControls use of what can only be likened to "master suppression techniques" in debates, like laughing at destiny when he is talking, strawmaning and being really passive aggressive in general. It's really uncomfortable to listen to.
Frankly, im offended. <3
The main point to this issue in my view is to let the market sort it out, just like Destiny says. The people who doesn't like it, shouldn't listen. Not try to force their values on it.
I haven't read the thread this was originally about but it seems to me that the fathers point is pretty much void since he is subjecting the kids to something already beyond their maturity level if you read the warning on the box. You cant really expect the language that describes a thing to be milder than the thing itself.

I wonder if you realize how racist this sounds.
Not really? Its not really correct in its fact-checking, but its not racist.

if a person doesnt want to be called a name what rigth do you have unless your arrogant . I don't want people who get offended by me using a word out of context watching my stream. I'd love you to answer this Destiny, i have some sympathy to your viewpoint but i think it doesn't take account of the context in a lot of these cases. IE why is it that amongst a community which is primarily young, straight males the reflex insult of choices is a homosexual slur? Because it is on all of the internet, and RL too? Widespread cultural homophobia is hardly an excuse for the SC2 community making the same mistakes. The more people learn that words like that can have negative repercussions and that it's better not to use them in that way the closer we'll get to eliminating these sorts of issues. calling someone a fag isnt homophobia though. words always have and always will change meaning over time as they get used in different contexts. holding on to words like fag as homophobia just comes across as people looking to get pissed off so they can start drama. you're blind or stupid if you don't think that young straight guys mean gay when they call someone a faggot at least 80% of the time. There's a reason a homosexual slur has supposedly morphed into a word that generally describes feminine/annoying/flamboyant behavior and it's not because of our societies mature acceptance of different sexualities. i actually say gay when i mean gay. when i called someone a fag, it maeans they are annoying. id ask where that 80% statistic came from but i wouldnt want to be homophobic if it came out your ass ;/ then call them annoying, why cling to a word that a lot of people interpret as being a reference to homosexuality.

You're an idiot if you truly believe that the words you are defending offend a small minority, and that it is impossible to avoid historically hateful, derogatory, and demeaning speech.
The problem isn't that you're throwing out obscure slurs against small amazonian tribes. The issue is that you see no problem with freely using slurs from recent history against large groups of people who are part of this community. In this country, you're entitled to use them, but that fact alone doesn't give you anything close to the moral high ground.
You're not being persecuted, stop acting like you are. It's a shame that as a well known representative from this community you see no reason to hold yourself to a higher standard.

Why does a jewish person understand the history books better than me? Memory is NOT genetic in any way. They identify with a group that this happened to. They dont understand the happening itself any better or any worse than anyone else.

There's a difference between using foul 'mature' language and using hate speech. If you can't differentiate between the two, then you need to open a history book and look at the origin of those words. Using derogatory slurs SPECIFICALLY aimed at a group of people or a verb describing the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse is NOT acceptable. Its not language policing or some "uptight american censorship". Its you being an immature prick who needs to get a clue. How faggot, nigger or rape became "acceptable" and just swear words is beyond me. Their meanings are clear and to use them without thought is rather childish. There are so many worlds in the English language, become better educated to find alternative ways to describe things rather than showing your ignorance in using hate words. I hope Destiny realizes that one day.

While I'm kind of annoyed/confused about the ultra PC mentality of a lot of posters I dont think it's really worth continuing the argument here. I mean it's about a couple of words that some people get offended by, just chillax and go do something more worthwhile imo.
This is what I hope people can take away from the show. I think anyone who's tuned into WoC before knows that this isn't exactly a regular topic or happening on the show. But in this particular instance we got the opportunity to hear the 2 distinct sides of what was being discussed. This kinda shit exists in gaming - and in some aspects I think the console generation has evolved the overall "gaming BM"... so it was nice to have an intelligent discussion about it.
I personally do not use or care for any racial slurs at all. However, I'm also not completely offended by them simply because of how ingrained it is in culture (song, TV, movies, web culture, etc). I'm certainly not innocent, as my wife is Chinese, there are no doubt some privately inappropriate times when we make fun of one another's races.
There are so many different ways this conversation can (and probably will) go, but I hope that people can at least remain respectful throughout it.
And lastly, I think it goes without saying that the thoughts and opinions of our Guests do not represent our own, because only the words that come out of our mouths are ours.

Are you trying really hard to troll? He didn't imply memories are transmitted as some form of integration into genomes. He meant that they are passed on from generation to generation. If you want to play really stupid, I guess I could spell out the modes in which memories are transmitted: books, stories, movies, language, music, etc.

Destiny's stream is like a videogame version of a comedian and entertainer doing his show. I don't know how often you'll hear very "offensive" words during comedy shows. From fag to nigger, you'll hear it all, hell.. there's even some very funny hitler-parodys on tv, even in germany.
Now if you'd hear those words in a serious news show or from a commentator who does his job casting the fifa champions league, then it would be quite inapropriate.
And we all should know by now that incontrol doesn't like destiny at all and takes every opportunity to do something against him .. however. not the angel in person, aren't you? ... twitter.com/88incontrol guess someone could be offended by that number also.

Destiny did not directly attack any black people by using the n word. Incontrol however, did directly insult the lives of Native Americans with his "jokes" so i would say that Incontrol in actuality is worse. I however have no problem with either however, you're not understanding that you have to put a lot of effort and context to make the one word of Destiny equal to his teasing of Native Americans whole history.

Because the only interaction you have with the Holocaust is whatever you read in your history books. Jews continue to live out the ramifications of the Holocaust in their daily interactions with their family and culture, whether it be stories from Holocaust survivors or cultural practices centered around the event. They might not understand the degradation that Holocaust victims themselves actually went through, but they certainly understand it on a deeper level than non-Jews.
