Am I the only who thinks Starcraft 2 hotkeys are a little lacking?
For example, theres not even a hotkey to select your CC/Nexus/Hatch. I mean, it's your most important build early on and you will be selecting it for the whole game. When you build your second and third one, the necessity to shift between them fast and creating workers is even more important. But you just can't do that fast enought with ctrl+#.
So by having a dedicated hotkey to select your CC/Nexus/Hatch you could do all this fast enough. It would not in any way, shape or form noobifed the game. It would be possible, for example, to select your CC and quickly click h-s, h-s, h-s and create a worker from all CCs.
And why the buildings don't have a dedicated hotkey to select them? Like for example, Starport = ctrl+s ? Gate = ctrl+g? Why not? What if I want to select those buildings and I didnt put them on a ctrl+#?
I really thing the game could improve with those small things, don't you? Discuss

locational hotkeys is what it really really needs. apparently there is "w" for warpgates for protoss.. I don't play them so I'm not sure.

Next time you play a game, try hitting backspace. It'll blow your mind.
And if keys like s and g are used for starports and gateways, it starts making a lot of unit production keys really unintuitive. 10 hotkeys is more than enough.

Doesn't backspace select your base in order it was built or something?

They really really need positional hotkeys

no, it brings u to your "hall", keep hitting will cycle through them. It actually functions as a locational hotkey but it's restricted and also it's way the heck on the right side of the keyboard, defeats the purpose.

I don't get why hitting 55 takes me to my nat. Any game designer with common sense should know when I hit that I want to go to my main. 555 should take me to my nat or some other command. Backspace doesn't cut it.

you cant ctrl+# then tab through each one fast enough? works great for me and is in a convenient location, i hate moving my hand to backspace

What's wrong with 0987 as seperate cc/nexus/hatch keys? What on earth would be using them instead?
|
They moved all the weird hotkeys over to the left side of the keyboard, then they make backspace go to CC's....
can they plz put it on ~ or something actually usable?

While I like their effort to put all the keys the closest to the left side of the keyboard, wouldn't it be simpler just to create a f***ing menu where you set your own hotkeys, like in... say 95% of the games today?

I would think that anyone who has played BW uses very high mouse speed. Just click the minimap, should look there anyway every few secs.
|
Actually, most BW players use average mouse speed, and clicking the minimap is a lot less accurate than using, say, F2-F4.
Day[9] said it so it must be true

It indeed blew my mind, of how bad it is, backspace doesnt cycle between your CCs, it doenst even select them.
No they are not. And they most certainly would not make it unintuitive. I mean, how hard it is to understand ctrl + g to select my gate and once selected click ZZZZ to make my zealots?

Exactly, how hard can that be. It's a must for any RTS game to have it.
RTS games are supposed to have lots of hotkeys, for EVERYTHING. Mouse should only be used to move the screen. Hotkeys dont mean making the game do things for you, but make you able to do the things you wanna do fast and efficiently. Having the tools to do things, and thats exactly what this game does not have. The tools.

i don't really get how people have an issue with hotkeys, i mean i thought all zergs go 0987 or 5678 or w/e for their hatches and then just apm it up with 0sz9sz8sz7sd or w/e you need. and now with the multi-bulding hotkey feature macro is a whole lot more eaiser for T and P and even Z to some extent because instead of hotkeying 6 raxes or hotkeying 1 and having to click on 5 more you can just hot key them all to like 4 and just mass those rines in half the the time it would take you in BW

This. I always thought it would be a cool idea to have unit productions hotkeyed to the numpad. Personally it would be a lot easier for me if I could set commands to whatever key I wanted, and I think everyone else here can agree that setting hotkeys to your will can make your micro/macro that much easier to pull off. It would make SC2 ALOT more user-friendly and wouldn't affect any sort of balance between newbies and pro-gamers.
