Look at Amon Amarth, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, All That Remains . . . just to limit myself to bands beginning with the letter "A" for the save of brevity. Um 3 of those 4 bands you mentioned are metalcore bands (or used to be anyways) Please don't ever put Amon Amarth in the same category as All that remains again please lol But I kind of don't like Avatar really either. This song is kind of cool because it's about Starcraft but otherwise the production is weak the shrieking at the beginning without music is horrible, and they flirt alot with the mainstream, making them quite trendy. Spotify in Sweden had a huge promo campaign with Avatar and every 10 minutes you would hear a Avatar commercial.

apparently the song All Hail The Queen from the album Slacht is also dedicated to Starcraft.

It's really no different from bands like In Flames, just with a little more cheesy chorus, less power chords (less any kind of chord really) and as much as I hate to admit it, more technically advanced playing. The only thing more difficult about In Flames is the strange tunings they insist on playing in, the same goes for Dark Tranquillity. People who categorize it further than that are just being snobby purists for the sheer sake of it - anyone with musical background can see that. Um, no there's a big difference. Those bands come from a hardcore background and then started playing a hybrid known as metalcore. It's not the "same thing" as melodic death metal.

Three out of four of those bands aren't close to being melodeath, and the fourth is questionable. And coincidentally, four out of those four bands are frankly rather bad, though I do enjoy a few of their songs :/.
