Ok, all this shit that is just assumed with a good game is RAPIDLY dissapearing... I'm a little sick of this, "something bigger planned". My expectations are fucking high as hell now, and its gonna be damn hard to meet, seeing as I can BARELY afford to buy a desktop that is somewhat capable of running the damn game (which i wont do until release)... Starcraft has the winning formula, IMO lets just add some nice bells and whistles and move along...
My brothers theory is that there will be some kind of 3d environment where you can walk around and chat in. You would be able to unlock and customise the models to use. Eg, you might start only being able to be either a Probe, SCV or Drone. Racial models would not stop you from talking to other racial models, as its just an avitar. As you win games with a race you can unlock more advanced models. You can pick the color and decal for the model you selected. Outside in the 3d space would be considered he general channel. You could enter different buildings, which are all different topics. Basically wow if you could not leave the capital city lol. You could join parties (like in the b.net reveal from blizzcon), challenge people (or a quick 1vs1), or launch a game from within the environment. I personally would be happy with something more simple and just chat based, but his crazy theory is starting to make me really wonder what their up to o.O

no offensive, but your brother's theory is a tad bit flawed. First of all, the only reason they would do that is if Blizzard was planning on making a World of Starcraft, and eve Rob Pardo said in last year's blizzcon that "an SC MMO just doesnt make sense". Second, how do the screens from the Bnet revealing fit in with the theory. It all looks menu based to me, just like XBOX live or steam.
I dont want to start a big debate because your brother said something, however you do raise a good point.. wtf is Blizzard planning?

If that's what they are doing I'm not going to talk to anyone ever on bnet 2.0 LOL

No offense to your brother, but that sounds god awful. I don't think I would ever enter the chat rooms if this was the case. I never understood this whole 3d environment anyway, especially for web browsing. So I hope they don't turn in this direction for chatrooms.

Please dont kill me for bumping, I didn't make a new thread at least!
I bumped the chat channel thread on battle.net a couple times tonight to try and keep the issue alive. Not having chat channels ready by the time the game launches just seems unacceptable. If Facebook/aim were a better way to communicate with people in war3 I would have used them there, but the clan and public chat channels acted as a gathering spot where people could wait or just stop by in between games without needing to take extra steps to talk to people(whom might only be on your friendlist).
POINT: Super angry they are probably taking steps backwards here.
btw spork they've said that they do want to add this stuff for release (it may be after release, not sure), but they didn't want people sitting around chatting in beta, they wanted us to test the game instead

What if they give you a red probe?
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't they say there won't be public chat channels pretty much since the introduction of the very first Bnet2 screenshots? Didn't hear the "bigger plans" excuse yet but that they don't want public chat isn't exactly news right?
You did notice that the post was from August 2009? Also, I still find it absolutely incredibly just gut-wrenchingly retarded that there won't be any chat channels. It's just... I'm at a complete loss of words really.

Oh wow no I didn't. Browsing with images disabled has its drawbacks....
even though they might have clan chat channels, or they may offer some other basic chat channels like "Custom Games" or "New Players" or "Clan Recruitment" or shit like that I will still say NO PUBLIC CHAT CHANNELS = R.I.P. BNET 2.0
I do hope they do decide to implement chat channels... Makes you feel a lot less alone when playing, always fun to just discuss random stuff between games.

Actually they said in Dev chat 30/4 that :
Clans are definitely something we plan to implement in the future. No specific date has been identified yet. They will likely correspond with the first expansion or a future patch.
So what that means to clan chat or clans is beyond me.
