Hello hello,
Bigger screenshot: + Show Spoiler +
It seems that since the skins have been implemented, people who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition can already use the Deluxe ultralisk skin.
720p game of the ultralisks: http://www.twitch.tv/kaluroo/c/1865225 It's a ZvP where I went double upgrade lings into fast hive for ultralisks. I was dead curious about the ultralisks so it wasn't really a proper game.
Some zoomed in 1080p ultralisks with two colors: http://www.twitch.tv/kaluroo/b/360504547
Feel free to post other skins once up!
~Kaluro
p.s. of course it'd be much appreciated to hit the follow button on the stream, for increased exposure ^_^.

Seems a bit over the top to be honest. Still badass.

Haha yeah they emit light pretty badassly and its like their tusks are engulfed in flames. If you set your graphics to medium, the flame-tusks will turn into regular tusks, but the glowing stays.

|
I'm glad that I ordered the deluxe version now. =)
|
The back of the ultra is awesome but the head and the light effect are not so good.

To add to that, you actually see a trail of flames when the tusks attack, a delayed trail.. it looks really great. But my computer isn't good enough to stream crisp 1080p live, so it's not that noticable. but did my best!

Looks awful.
The glowy blades don't look like it's a real thing. They look like a weapon enchant ripped off WoW.
|
|
Really cool. Can't wait to see the terran skins.

I think it's just too much. Too much colour, too much effect.

I kinda like it and I kinda don't. Like, it's pretty badass I agree, but I think it's slightly over the top with the glowy, flamey tusks.. Kinda distracting tbh.

Just cancelled my Australian preorder and got the digital edition
Here's the ultra skin in low graphic setting: http://imgur.com/a/dQ6ng
(wow those images are too big, just go to the url above)
Personally I think they don't look all that special in low graphics. They look no where as cool because the lighting effect is toned down by a lot.
Luckily I am waiting for my new laptop, so I will be playing it at ultra settings

Remember, that you can always use both skins - the old one and Torrasque one

Once again low graphics is just that much better ^_^ no glow!

Ya I think I may actually like the low graphics one better. Anyway I'll have to wait to get my hands on this since I pre-ordered the physical collector's edition. Fine by me though, more to look forward to on launch day!!!

Definitely over the top..

If Blizzard really wants to bring in more casual players they should add unlockable/ purchasable skins for most if not all units. They'd be selling out kind-of but taking a lesson from a more successful game like LoL is what they need to do if they want to be the top eSport.

The new XP thing is meant for precisely that: Unlocking new skins, animations and such.

I agree that Ultra looks a bit over the top, the low graphics one is better. But I would really low to play with Swarmlings, please!

Looks like a WOW unit. Don't like it.

Where again are those people that said that an option to turn off skins was not needed? This looks certainly distracting. Glowing blades also look too magicy not sci-fi like.

Thank god you can. I will buy the CE and i don't want that shiny flop being anywhere on the screen.
@Existor new patch is out: have you done some datamine this time? anything itneresting?
|
This is going to destroy my gameplay. I can't believe they are implementing skins like this. I am going to try to click on my banelings to micro them but I will be irresistably drawn to the ultralisk now. What were they thinking.

I agree that the glowing part is a bit over the top but It's still a pretty nice model overall. And since I play on low details anyways (my PC can't handle anything else...), I don't mind it that much. The only thing that bothers me right now is that I switched races once again (to protoss) and therefore will not be able to actually use the skin for now.
The screenshot on page 1 made me curious- there are going to be skins for the overlord and zergling as well? Is there any information as to how you unlock those yet?
edit: Keep in mind guys, it's still beta. They probably implemented those skins early so that there is time to adjust, should they get too much negative feedback on the glowing stuff.
edit 2: OK I found the thread on skins in HotS: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=395247

@Existor oh okay. Do you have this picture of Kerrigan in the background in bigger resolution? I wanted to have detailed one for a painting but there aren't any real big ones on the inet. Only snippets

It's so...flamboyant! I prefer my shitty old ultras, thanks.
|
Have to agree, the original Ultras look better by far. This one looks like some fantasy creature ripped off from WoW

You already can turn off these skins via Rewards menu So you will not see your opponent's custom skins, only your own? If so, then this feature is fine, and motivating for casual fun! If not, then it is still a little distracting. I'm not saying it's a big thing, just that it has the potential to be slightly annoying.

Flamboyant is good, gives a good personal twist to customizing your zerg. Better than to just have 'more' of the same zerg stuff, I'd say personalisation is a good thing, as is variation.

after some excessive testing it seems the medium settings ultralisk is easiest on the eyes, no glowing tusks and such.. Good news for the medium/low quality players :-)!
