I'm just wondering since they are the only new unit that really didn't show up in multiplayer if they actually were a multiplayer unit would anyone use them? I mean firing while moving does sound helpful for harass and they seem pretty good but still they are expenive and supply heavy and it is hard to say how useful that firing while moving would be
Of course people would use them. You could do tons of harass without taking any damage and then just get the hell out of dodge. They do bonus damage to armored, too.
they'd see use, but not as much as craton seems to think. They are very expensive for what they do, and get steamrolled in any kind of pitched fight scenario. The siege tank just goes with more terran builds for that position in cost/tech.
Seeing that it hard counters armored + mobility makes the Terran look out of character if they'd put it in, Terran's were meant to hard counter at the cost of either mobility or health. An MMM that's stimmed can destroy those rustbuckets easily. But it does look to have potential against harassing expansions.
I would use them, phoenixes on ground that do additional damage to armored units. (Obv. this is simplifying it but that's the basic gist). They are a bit excessive in supply though.
I think they might be useful. 150 gas is alot but 200 health and 40 damage vs armoured is pretty good. You could probably get a few out by the time the Protoss gets Immortals and harass the hell out of his Stalkers. Even after the immortal comes out, I guess you could just do hit and run. Could also be useful against Zerg if he goes Roaches.
Siege tanks were better at the mission designed to be good for diamond backs. They would probably see use as a harrassment unit (especially taking down unprotected expos) and would be a good counter to ultras, however siege tanks would be better in alot of situations. The diamondback is simply too expensive and would be outshined by siege tanks (more effective in most situations) and marauders (much cheaper in gas, can stim) to play a big role.
pre-igniter Hellions + Diamondbacks would probably be too good vs Zerg ground if they manage to get the diamondbacks out, would depend on their speed relative to roaches. Otherwise the diamondbacks are too expensive to actually be useful.
I thought they were cool in the mission where you got them but then I didn't use them after that. I still like them I just can't see myself using them instead of the other units. I think they're too easy to micro too the ai just autoshoots for you.
I'm not sure what you would use them for. Terran already have pretty good mobility with helions and MMM (drops w/ medivacs). That's probably why they were removed from multiplayer.
It's a cool unit though. Maybe someone will make a custom map w/ bgh that has all the removed units enabled
