I would not say Siakam's defense is great. He does work well within the system and plays responsibly at the defensive end. He is far from great though.

the only thing i can think of .. is that his ankle might be forcing him to play limited minutes and the Raptors don't want to admit that. Otherwise, I have no clue why Ibaka played so little the last 2 games. He was fucking awesome.

Wow, Lowry I have no idea what his plan was, and then Tatum with the easiest FT rebound ever. It was literally a Scottie Pippen classic move from the 90s.

I think if you have had Jimmy in your top 5 for many years that's toughish for me. You have Lebron, Kahwi, Durant as just solid locks since 2016. You have to really value defense to have had him over Curry/Harden in their great seasons, and there are just always lurkers like AD and Giannis and even Paul George when he has his own team.

You can argue you thought he was potentially a better playoff guy, but we hadn't really seen it until now. Harden went to game 7 of the WCF, for example.

I do value defense very heavily. For instance, I have never considered Harden a top five player, and I waver back and forth on Curry, although you can't argue with the results and so I tend to give it to him based on the wins and how he plays a more team oriented style of game than Harden does.

So for the last bunch of years, my top five has been Kawhi, LeBron, KD, Jimmy Butler, and Steph Curry. No particular order except to say that Jimmy Butler has never been in my top three.

how/why did you rate butler over giannis in the last 2 years? PG in his last OKC year was pretty good too

i see your explanation above, id say that its more of the buck's system being exposed. feel like their system, principle wise, is very close to houston and maybe portland to an extent. give it to harden/giannis/lillard and get out of the way.

I think it's less the Bucks system getting exposed and more that the non-Giannis players keep disappearing. Middleton goes from 50/40/90 in the regular season to 40/30/doesn't get to the line in the playoffs. Bledsoe can't seem to hit an outside shot. I just saw them stand around and brick too many way open 3-pointers that Giannis created for them against Miami. Their defense was best in the league in the regular season but it hasn't been right in the bubble.

I'm certainly no expert so I'm just parroting what others have said in videos I've watched (coach Daniel, bballbreakdown) but... I'm convinced after two years of seeing it pointed out

Apparently it's the way the Bucks sag on drives to protect the paint, which gets exploited in the playoffs for wide-open threes. It works in the regular season because teams don't have as much time to gameplan specifically for them, and also because they leave the poor shooters open.

Good teams on the playoffs have more decent shooters, and also design plays to get their better shooters open against the scheme.

I remember starting this same discussion here a few weeks back. My biggest concern is they are vulnerable to a good 3-pt shooting team, and Miami is one of the best in the league this season. They go out of their way to protect the paint and leave the poorest shooters open. And you are right. There are ways for those poor shooters to get their better teammates open.

Butler's 3 pointer has returned. I guess the hiatus did him some good.

Gasol was also heaving bricks around all playoffs long. Gasol was 5/27 from 3 and 39% over all. Centers should have one of the highest 2 point shooting percentages on the team...

Pretty good company at least...

I was watching that series and I thought Boston had the best players quite clearly and it looked like they were winning most of the time, but still Toronto hung in for so long. I don't understand how they managed to do that. If Siakam had shown up they probably would have won too. Great series anyway. Nurse is a great coach and Lowry is just a beast and looks like a really good leader. I feel that over all Toronto as a team is much better than the sum of all the parts. You could easily see another coach and another organisation having those players and not getting those results imo.

"we're the Bad News Bears... and I'm coach Buttermaker".

ok then ... who is Kelly Leake?

NBA ratings in Canada continue to improve...
https://www.si.com/nba/raptors/news/toronto-raptors-tv-ratings-second-round-boston-celtics-game-7

I wonder if these kinds of ratings will spark a bidding war for the Raptors TV rights?

I'd like to see the Clippers move back to Buffalo. Who needs two teams in LA any way.

As far as BO7 series comebacks go ....
The 1985 Kansas City Royals came back from down 3-1 twice to win the World Series.

I think this is awesome because the Joker is the best. Everyone makes fun of him for being fat and sweaty, but in game 7, guess who was fat and sweaty? Paul George and Doc Rivers, and the whole Clippers team. It was a clinic of fitness.

I've been laughing my ass off reading NBA twitter all night. It's just so amazing. Lakers had their worst drought in their history, and my team still made it back to the WCF before the Clips ever could break out of the second round.

Keep covering up those banners Doc! You're not going to have any of your own to hang up in Staples Center!
