Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich paid £247m into the club last season but it still made an overall loss of £96.6m. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51017102

That's 2 of our best midfielders. There's only Fred, Matic, Pereira, Mata and Lingard left. Matic's and Mata's form have been bad and Pereira and Lingard won't even be able to make it into the starting 11 of the relegation teams. Fred has improved quite a bit but it's essentially a decimated midfield so it's no surprise whatsoever that we lost to City. If Woodward doesn't sign at least 1-2 midfielders this window I'll be absolutely fuming.

But midfield, God dam even Klopp wouldn't be able to do anything with this midfield.

Now both teams in the finals will be teams that shouldn't even have participated in this trophy. No matter how meaninglessness the title is, I can already see Marca and As celebrating the victory from Real as if they were European champions. I'm mad. Also finally a good game from Barça and they lose, while normally they play like crap and win. Whatever.

No /s, just rage haha But I recall a very recent game (could be last week, definitely in the EPL, either City or Liverpool game) where the forward was offside because of his hand. The rest of his body was onside. And last night Vidal was barely offside (like 5cm) unless you count the other defender's arm that was completely behind the offside line. Anyway, probably a good call, but the VAR is so frustrating regarding offsides... The offside rule was implemented to avoid strikers camping and getting unfair advantage over defenders, but the 'spirit of the law' was that in case of doubt, there wasn't offside. Now with VAR there's no doubt, it's either offside or not. And so many times it's happening in one camera frame. I feel this is too strict but there's no way you can change VAR, so maybe the rule should be changed? Like, what if it only applied if it happens in the box? Or if the attacker has his whole body behind the offside line? I'm not sure this would change much, but the current situation feels so frustrating because every goal gets to be reviewed and fans just can't celebrate until it's validated FOR SURE. Same with handballs... In last night's game, Piqué did a handball in the box but it didn't affect the situation at all (in my opinion at least; his hand barely changed the direction of the ball, and he did all he could to remove his hand). In the end the ref didn't give a penalty and I think it was fair because of the 'spirit of the law', but also unfair because all the recent similar handball situations resulted in penalties. I like the idea of the VAR and I do feel that whenever there's a check, the decision taken is fair; but it's definitely ruining the emotions you get when a goal gets scored, and sometimes the calls are so anticlimactic I wouldn't want to pay tickets to live them. And I'm saying that even when I'm a neutral fan. Seeing players run off with joy to then see their goal disallowed 30s to 1mn after is a really shitty feeling. Like Sterling last year in CL vs Tottenham, last minute goal :D On January 10 2020 18:47 Bacillus wrote: I've only been reading match reports, but I've got the picture that most of the matches played in Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been rather underwhelming performances. Obviously these are not the most inspiring games for the players anyway, but it still makes me worry about the quality of games in World Cup alongside the other issues that we already have with the Qatar as hosts. Not those 2 Supercopa games at least. They were pretty good, even for a less important trophy. Day-time games might be another story.

But I am for having some leeway in offside situations, handball is super difficult to judge imo. But I read somewhere a few days ago that the referees dont want to change the offside rule. If its really only a few milimeters then its still offside. I dont know how anyone who loves football can say that.

I always look at these decisions from both sides. I might be wrong, but I would argue that getting a goal disallowed as the attacking team is more disheartening, whereas conceding a wrongful goal as the defending team is more revolting. One feeling brings your morale down a lot, the other one motivates you to get back at your opponent harder. I feel that now you can't hate on referees, so instead of blaming a poor decision on one guy you blame the whole sport. Very sad. Regardless, yesterday's game was a great one from the 2nd half so I guess just accept all that and move on?
